Looks nice and clean! Any oil canning in the hood?

The weather is supposed to be good today so the plan is to get the cab to a buddy of mine. No visible signs of any flash rust as of yet, we've kept handling the sheet metal to a minimum and gloves only. |

I carefully sandblasted the hood and trunklid of my GTO, and as low as I could keep the heat it still had oil canning. The blast media actually changes the profile of the sheetmetal in those long flat parts and makes it have a larger surface area than the other side. I took care of it with a stainless steel shrinking disc. I hope you escape with no troubles. Where I live it is pretty dry, and I'd think Utah is the same. I have had sandblasted parts left in bare metal for a few years without flash rusting. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
I'll never forget the first time I drove my Corvette with the T-tops off..... That sand was coming out from the interior some where. Stupid stuff. (The car has no carpet and bare minimum interior)

Re: 72 K30 Build
Yeah, Mrs. 7dee2 called one of our cars Sandy for that very reason.

Re: 72 K30 Build
Looking good Brett, I don't have time to do any of that and i hate to paint!!! so I am going to get a local shop to do the paint and body after my metal work is done.
Keep the great work!!! |

Was over to the paint shop just hanging out (kinda like the old guys at McDonalds) and a buddy asks me what color are you going to paint it? So I told him White! The disappointment in his face just made me laugh. Love it when new stuff shows up, green (factory AC) rear glass and a Precision weather-stripping kit. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
 @white too. I have a board member's truck from New Mexico and he's wanting it repainted back white too. I asked again to make sure just white.

You know Mrs. 7dee2's favorite ice cream is vanilla, so there you have it. ;) Also white does fit the new? old? work truck thing that's going on...
Started working on our AC some just prior to sending the cab out for media blast. I’ve been torn between restoration (preferred), aftermarket replacement or something in between. After some research, I’m opting for something in between. My goal is to keep a factory look that hopefully will work much better than the last R12 to 134a conversion we had on an 86 K30. |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Following along your ac rebuild as well. I used Old Air in my suburban and its headed for the trash can this winter. On the top 3 of worst mods with the gear vendor od being 2nd.
I am planning a factory a/c system replacement |
Re: 72 K30 Build
Kool (pun intended!), hope the info to follow will be helpful.
In my AC research, I ran across forum member F.A.A.benny (Benny), after some correspondence we sent our POA valve to him for a rebuild and 134a calibration. Here are a few links to some of his work. I LS swapped the truck and had a well build 4L80E for $2000 and just drive the truck now. If it brakes on a road trip I can get parts are anywhere in north America next day at worst. |
