Thank you bruceman that helps a lot. Unfortunately my frame has been blasted and painted and I just finished repainting my firewall last week, but with that info I may be able to find it in old pictures

This is a truck I have in storage. It was dark in there and hard to get a good shot.

I just purchased my truck and I'm still torn between totally stock or upgrading a few of the major systems for safety and convenience. My question is, the truck has power steering and power drums but they are not listed as options. Does that mean they were added or were those standard equipment in 1970?

I'm still learning Chevy trucks and need the help of experts. Thanks!

Re: SPID Picture thread?

My truck had power drum (upgraded to disc) brakes; it is not listed on the SPID. N40 power steering, however, is listed.

Power brake boosters were offered as an accessory and commonly installed.
Since neither J47 P/B nor N40 P/S are listed on your SPID they were added at some point.
But the brakes were possibly dealer installed.

Notable factory options:
SpecialTwo-Tone with White roof and lower body/rockers.
Chromed front and rear bumpers, all so often added now.

Plus of course its a factory V8, SWB Fleetside!

Re: SPID Picture thread?

Thank you! This truck is already pulling me into the culture. I can see this getting out of hand and making my wife a "truck widow". Since I essentially have a modified truck already, I think I'll have at it with the upgrades.

Thanks again!

No power steering on it though. does not seem to ever of had it either. The mounting holes do not have any scratches or blemishes from a previous box.

If you are saying your truck does not have Power Steering nor does it appear to ever have had it (they use the same holes) then clearly the first thing to check are the numbers. This will verify it is the original frame and cab for that un-screwable SPID.

The VIN plate on the driver's door post should be attached with rosette rivets and have the complete VIN CE149Z836800 matching both the SPID and title.

The frame should be stamped 9Z836800 (partial vin) into the left upper frame rail flange both above the steering box and under the cab.

too bad the truck is nearly scrap- I believe it is a 'hidden' Highlander that Jim Clark talks about. You can see it was a Baltimore truck, and has none of the 'extra' alpha-numeric codes added to the main 3 digit codes., and options are more briefly worded then other trucks of same year. Guy installed an ugly red seat cover over the factory plaid when new and 46 years later I discover the surprise. Crossy

Re: SPID Picture thread?

Great Find!
Truely a "Hidden Highlander" that I have spent a lot of time researching and making people aware of.
The SPID codes and descriptions are correct for a 72 Baltimore truck. They didn't use the exception code suffixes as you noted, just three digit RPOs. Unlike most plants Baltimore didn't use a trim code either in most cases.
The Highlanders, being a special combination did!
In this case 618 codes the Orange Plaid Highlander trim combination upgrade of Z62.

YG6 codes the basic Highlander Promo Package "A" including BX2, B85, B93, DG4, PA1 & V37.

Of note is the E81 wood bed floor, a number of suspension options and even gauges.

Yet it has the standard 307 V8 and Column shift three speed (3OTT) trans!
