On 67-72's the frames are not the same from 4x2 to 4x4. On the front suspension, the 4x4 arch is higher than the 4x2. In the rear, the frame rails on the 4x2 kick in after the rear suspension and the 4x4 rails continue straight all the way back. I'm converting my 4x4 to 4x2 by shortening a 4x2 frame and moving the body mounts as needed, that way I can use Nathan's Dropmember C4. Here are a couple pics to show the difference.
Looking straight down the 4x4 rails:

4x4 and 2x4 side by side, you can see how much higher the front suspension arch is, also an idea of the difference in body mounts:

Hope that helps.

i wonder of you can use the 4x4 frame with a 2wd frontsuspension to get a 2 wd laying frame instead of doing a Z on a 2x4 frame it might be the eazier way to go if youre doing a frame of build

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

In the front yes. The rear still needs a notch. If I had gone with the regular Dropmember that is what I would have done.

Mike, looks good. Based on what I see I take it for granted that you are sticking with the
orginal frame and making you mods as needed?....Jim

not trying to thread jack or anything just curious to know if anyone knows...Is the 2wd blazer frame the same as your 4wd blazer frame?

Frame table extension seems to be turning out good man.

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

i believe the front part of the frame is shaped differently to leave room for the solid frontaxle on a 4wheel drive , if it is raised higher the kick up in the frame might be good to get the truck to lay frame using a stock crossmember without z-ing the frame in the front or the need to pancake the crosmember

Had to come catch up, wore me out  I like the way the custom frame ideas are going and the scotts suspension is awesome. So if you are friends with Charles Armstrong this should have some wicked graphics right? I like his time machine yota a lot, one of my favorite mini trucks ever. I actually met him once in the mid '90s in Oklahoma when he had the black toyota that he airbrushed murals from some dracula? movie all over it and the hood was hinged at one corner. He had some huge custom made 17s and chrome leaf springs. Man the good ol mini truckin days, ha ha. He does some awesome paint jobs, there used to be a bunch of them around in Oklahoma.

We were leaning towards having Charles air brush wood trim on it but i think we have decided to just go classic two tone, keep it simple and classy !

the fake wood thing isnt done with an airbrush , its a basecoat and a coat over wich they distress with brooms and paintbrushes and a little tool while its still wet to get the look of the grain the might put in a few black spots but thats about it
