Truly enjoyable thread. It took me several days to go thru it all. I was around Gypo loggers in the 1970's so many of these old trucks were still working hard back then.
My contribution is this old Mack that has a home at the Ross Island cement plant in Portland. It's been there since I moved here in the late 80's. It gets washed regularly but I've never seen it moving.

Nice looking B-Model.

I would rather drive that than any of the other ones there, lol.

Yes it is nice. I have seen one other B Mack with what I believe is the exact same front fenders flared/tire/axle set-up. I wonder if that was available on the late ones. I don't recall seeing flotation steer tires until maybe the '80s on trucks. More common now of course. This truck was at the Macungie ATCA show in '09. A totally rainy weekend. Tore that park up!

A fleet of Macks on the west coast is a sight, no? Is there a western plant? I should know but not sure at the moment. I was under the impression Macks are fairly uncommon (or were) on the west coast. Paccars used to be seldom seen back east

This thread is sure enough big, and been running for a good while. That's the problem. At this point I have no idea what I have or haven't posted from my folders. And I'm not going back through to check. I don't even want to think about it!

Same show:

I never knew truck companies would use cabs from other companies until more recent years. But cabs are a very expense thing to design and build. I guess those Macks were the predecessors to the ones you see now as dumpster trucks. My friend has a C-cab Ford with a crane mounted. He's a sign painter, so it is a bit 'painted up'

I only know it from that one show. Haven't seen it since. It's built by Walker, who made big specialty trucks. It is a runway drier. That is a jet engine on back that did the drying. I'd like to know more myself. That was '09 at the ATCA (Antique Truck Club of America) national show in Macungie, PA. Maybe through their website or other searches you could find mention. It was the star of the show that year!

I will add these photos to the group. They are from a project we did awhile back. The job was to transport the 219 ton turbine from Vancouver WA to the Revelstoke Dam in British Columbia. These are of the truck unit that transported the turbine from Vancouver to Lake Roosevelt (above Grand Coulee dam) where we barged it up to the dam.
First photo is of turbine as delivered from the ship.
Second is of the trailer and trucks at the Lake Chelan load site
Third is of the turbine hanging from the trailer.
Fourth is of the turbine being set on to the transporter.
Fifth is the turbine on the transporter moving down the boat ramp to the barge.

The barge had to be trucked to Lake Roosevelt and assembled. Using a system of Flexi-Floats the barge was assembled and welded together. A wood deck of crane mats (8" x 8" beams if I remember correctly) was laid down for the transporter to ride on.(https://www.flexifloat.com/Reference...onPhotoGallery Attached to the front of the barge were a pair of 500 HP thrusters (Think large outboard engine that turns 360 degrees). Then 2 small tugboats for propulsion with a 3rd one for a back up. In addition we had a jet sled to run ahead of the barge and take soundings.
1st photo shows wood deck, welded float sections, the 2 power units for the thrusters, and the control station for them.
2nd photo show thrusters raised up for loading the turbine.
3rd photo moving on the upper end of the lake.
4th photo moving up the Columbia river
5th running the rapids.

In the locks at Arrow dam.
Approaching the lower end of the Revelstoke dam (Too much coffee photo!)
New turbine supply pipe being constructed at Revelstoke.
It was more than 300 miles up river for us. The turbine was constructed in Italy so we were but a small part of the trip.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful

So, each tube against the damn will have a turbine....(?) Wow...

Yes. When the dam was first constructed they preassembled 2 extra supply ports in case they ever needed to expand the power generation capacity. This was the first additional turbine added to the power house. Photo shows the new tube being constructed and in the upper right side of the photo you can see the last unused supply port.

That must be Macungie, PA. The ATCA national show. I missed last year but go every year. It's fantastic! I ride with my sign painter friend in his '58 Reo. Here is a YouTube video from the '17 show. At the very end, about 9:40, we are seen leaving in it (That's my arm in the window. Woo Woo!)

You see it all there. It's always on Father's Day weekend. A wholotta Macks! Macungie is where the main Mack Plant is. They have a shuttle to the plant for tours all weekend. If you like old trucks you will no be disappointed. No judging, just for the love of trucks.
