I'm leaning toward old school gauges. I think they will fit the theme of the truck. Final color right now is a mid sixties Chevelle light metallic blue. With my engine color not sure how it will look under the hood (not much contrast). White fire wall is definitely out as I want it to be a daily driver and easy maintenance is a must. I like how my frame turned out with the Hammered Rustoleum and have played around with the silver on a small panel. Kim |
Re: My 57 Pro Street

Amazing work, have read the build numerous times. Helps to give me ideas! Before you smoothed your firewall did you happen to notice or remember if the original hood hinges were flush from the firewall to the pillars. I have one side that is set in 1/2" or so wasn't sure if it was factory or if it needs to come out flush. Thanks! |

The very first pic in my thread shows the old fire wall still in. Maybe some one can post a close up pic for you as I don't have any to show it. Kim |

here is a pic of my cab explosion. maybe you can cipher an answer from there? I believe the two sides should look the same except a mirror image.this was a 57 gmc cab but they are supposed to be all the same in that area I believe.

Yeah they seem to appear flush. I attempted to upload a photo, doing this all from my phone so hopefully it works. Anyways the driver side to front upper left of the firewall is what I'm asking about. Where the hood hinges go it's about 1/8" shallow or sunk in from the cowl panel. Thanks. I can cut and push it forward to make it flush just wanted to make sure. Thanks guys.

Re: My 57 Pro Street
I hear 'ya. I'd. Decided on red long ago and I've gone through a number of other color ideas since. I keep coming back to red but I have also strongly considered orange and a green somewhat like the Rustoleum Sage green that was on my truck before I blew it apart.
I intend to build only one truck (Yeah, we'll see!). Been waiting my whole life so that's why I'm sticking with red. Everyone says, "Arrest Me Red" or "Resale Red" - I get it; it's trite, its been done. I keep telling myself that's because it looks good. I guess you'll all know right after I do, ha ha! Whatever you pick I'm sure it'll look great. Best, Dan |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
That is a nice blue.

Re: My 57 Pro Street
Yep, nice color!
Mine was also metallic blue when I bought it, but so badly done, it had to come off.... |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
I want to paint it myself and I know metallic paint can be tricky so I may have to change my plans.
Thinking about practicing on some flat sheets with some metallic Dupli Color Paint Shop paint my brother gave me before I buy the real stuff. We'll see when the time comes. Kim |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
I was just looking at my truck today and wondering why they have that indented section on the back of the cab and thinking to myself how it would look to smooth it out. After seeing your cab pics it looks great. You have some great skills. Looks awesome

Re: My 57 Pro Street
Man, you've been at this since '08. I just took some time to review, yet again, your build. Consistently great work. The real beauty of this site is the fact that we can review other guy's builds for reference and motivation....especially you more accomplished fabricators. Keep it coming. Thx dug

Life has a way of slowing down progress but I'm going to keep at it. Basically been doing body work and it's slow going as I'm learning as I go so I do things more than once that a body man wouldn't have to. Amazing how much sanding there is. Kim |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
hahaha, sanding. everybody'e dream......NOT
spray high build, sand high build, spray more high build, sand more....repeat. it will look awesome when done. |

Re: My 57 Pro Street
if you are leary of spraying metalic how about a nice sold color with pearls in the clear?
really metalic isn't much different to spray than solid, just practice some on vertical surfaces. the horizontal stuff is easy.if you can spray the primer withouty runs then you can probably spray the metalic, just beware of the overlaps so you don't get blushing. |

Just a little up date.
Finally got the bed where I'm going to live with it. Need to sand it with some 180 then another coat of epoxy and final sanding I hope but that will be for another day. This is a case of ambition over ability. Wish I knew what I know now when I first started the bed. Kim |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
Wow Kim, that is incredibly COOL! I didn't know you were doing a custom bed. What are your plans for fenders? Stock? Widened stock? Full custom? Can't wait to see more!
Best, Dan |

Stock fenders. The bed is the same width as a step side bed. The fenders will help to hide my amateur body work. Kim |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
Kim, looks great, can't wait to see it with the fenders on...Jim

Re: My 57 Pro Street
I think it looks good. Amature body work, I dont think so, it will look cool when its done.

Re: My 57 Pro Street
Thanks guys.
Fenders are next to be worked on. I have one that is new and the other is in real good shape. Kim |
