OH NO!!!!

Is it anything that could be welded up? I know there are plenty of reputable engine shops that could do that type of work.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window

Do you know what year your 327 block is? The 68 & 69 vintage ones are the same as a 350 block all the way up to 1985.

Some even have the same casting number used for both engines.

Thanks for the support guys!! Alright, here's the latest. I went by the shop this morning and Chris, the owner, was there. I talked with him for a minute then told him the bad news. After the shock of what I told him had dissapeared from his face he said that he would do whatever it took to make it right without hesitation. He first suggested a plug and said if that would not fix it, then he would find another old 327 block. I was relieved big time!!! The block is a 1966 Vette/Camaro block which has no tube in the front of the block where later 67 and up blocks do. He said that they do magnaflux every block but sometimes they have pourous iron and it will not be detected. The location of the crack surprised him, he had never seen one crack in this area. The plug he refered to is supposed to be a permanent fix that is very reliable, and can be installed without pulling the engine. He said that he would meet me at the shop in the morning to look at my truck, all is going well so far! Keep your fingers crossed for me!!!!!!

Here are some pics of the block. It is easy to see where it is cause it cracked through the paint.

David, I feel your pain bud, hope all works out well for you, but whatever you do DO NOT SELL it for a reason as measly as this, let it sit and when you have the funds/time you can get back to her, you will regret it every day fro the rest of your life!!!! trust me. What you need to do is step back, look at her and say I built you and be Darned if you are gonna crush me!!! Things will work out in the end, heck look at what I am going through right now< it ends up being just learning experiences in the end. Later

I hope this works for me, it may save someone else reading this too. I wasn't aware that this was an option.

Thanks James! I got chewed out by my brother when I mentioned selling it. Don't think that is an option......he's bigger than me. I did just what you said, I looked at it today and thought "you have not beaten me yet". Maybe I said it out loud....things are kinda fuzzy right now! This is a hard learned experience, one I wish had not happened.

Yep....hangin on to it for awhile cause she is my sancha. As for the A/C it is on hold for a while or at least till I know that the cost will be completely left up to me.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window

hows the breeze with those open holes in the fire wall? for now you should cut a peice of metal out that will cover the holes and then drill holes in it that match the holes on the firewall to mount all the A/C boxes to, and just get a gasket to go in between and it will be sealed until you get the A/C figured out.... just my cent

He needs to know that you have 80,000 buddies that want him to get it fixed. Maybe that will motivate him. that's a big family to mess with.

I have heard from other people that this is an area that can be welded easily since there is no pressure in this area. But no new news from the builder. I called twice Saturday with no answer, but they are not open to the public on weekends so it's a hit or miss. I am calling him today but we have bad weather so I don't see anything happenin.

If things don't work out, I bet drilling out the end of the crack to prevent spreading (always recommended) and a braze job and you'd be good to go! Wonder where the end of the crack is under the timing cover and how the plug would work short of pigg puddy or similar...

Wish I had more knowledge on the plug he talked about. Can't even take anything off of the engine till he gets the chance to look at it. Stalemate. I agree with ya, drill it, weld it, drive it.

For anyone interested in this "plug" here is a website that explains the process and it may be an option for some of us.

Well he came by yesterday evening, I wasn't there but did talk to him this morning. A new block is the only answer so he is going to be lookin for a 327 1966 or older like what I have. Now we gotta see how long it's gonna take him. Started tearing my engine down today and got a little done.

Thanks butternut. I am going to see how long he "looks" for the 327. If it is taking longer than expected then I will be in the market for one. I'm keepin you in mind on this and will PM ya when/if that time comes. Hope he gets off his butt and puts forth some effort. My friends dad has a 350 long that he will sell to me for $100, but that would be a last resort.
