Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Sanded down the tops of the bed wood. I will put on the first coat of urethane tonight. Bought my wife a set of american racing wheels for her mustang. Should be worth some points for chevy parts.
and here is the boy with the bed wood. He would rather work on the truck than hang with his friend across the street. Good times! |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Purchased a set of Dog dish hub caps off this site. I have been looking for a set for some time for the right $$$ scored today!!! (Watched it rain and tore apart a #37 Ford front end for Hot Rod project)

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I drove my truck for the last time before disassembly today (it was a special time...sigh). My friend came by with his son to help disassemble my truck, so, my friend and his son and myself and my son pulled the front sheet metal, pulled the motor/trans and pressure washed the front suspension and frame.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Nice work TRKFRK! I put the 4th coat of urethane on my bed wood after running the heater in the garage for two hours. Got a little twisted between the propane and the urethane :>)))))))

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Today I removed the bench seat, fender wells, fenders and doors. I was also able to get the gas tank and sending until installed and almost finished painting the back half of the frame.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Fired her up today. Right around 50 degrees today in Colorado. Doesn't look like a white Christmas this year. Drove it up and down the street a few times to charge the battery. Put the final coat on the bed wood. I will begin assembly the day after tomorrow(the wife may seize up if I spend the the day in the garage)

First sunny day around here for the last ten days.
So, while "The Boss" was in the kitchen putting together a serious Christmas Eve spread, I went over to the shop for about four hours. I finished the gas tank vent lines (almost), installed the dash pad...still need to tweek it a little....put in glove box door bumpers (I used an earlier- '60's glove box emblem to piss some "proper" folks off, but mostly to cover one of my paint boo-boos), hand-set the defrost vents, installed the Vintage Air center vent (I'd already cut the hole), used some sound deadener material to block off the old radio grill because you could see thru the front window to the inside of the dash. I figured that at night, with any lights on in the dash, it would look really funky without blocking it off. Polished out the inside sill of the driver's door. Found some dents that I'm just going to live with this go-round (Rat Rod, you know). When I got home, I took the final shot in the driveway. I thought I was outta doe!!!! |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Finally got the bed wood put in and bolted together. It is never as easy as you expect! I am pretty excited that it turned out as good as it did. Not perfect by any means but good enough for my rat rod (for now) look.:metal:

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I got out my sawzall and removed the old exaust system, removed the crossmember and e-brake cable then began cleaning the firewall and the front of the frame and front suspension. I had to use a hammer and old screwdriver to get some of the big stuff off, I felt like I was breaking loose fossils. Boy...that easy off oven cleaner really works good!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I got the Cummins to fire up. It was a great Christmas present. It definitely sounds intense...it rocked the whole truck when I revved it a few times - now I just need a brake booster, rear disc conversion, prop valve and some brackets for the seat I have. I'm debating if I will remove the tank in favor of a frame mounted unit. I also need an intake/filter, electric fans and the rest will be the small stuff to make her look nice..plus gauges for boost, EGT, tach, oil and power. She's coming along

Glad you got to take it out and have some fun with it even if you did get stuck. I get my 78 K20 long bed truck stuck all the time due to its length and overhang. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Took my 72 GMC Short/Fleet to a new shop (in the area I moved to).
Had him adjust the idle speed and Mixture. Then got an estimate for painting the Interior. Put it on the Calander for 4-6 weeks. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I sprayed more oven cleaner on the frame and washed it off then after it dried I primed the bare metal to keep it from rusting.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Got the stepside fenders on. Scuffed a few spots cause I had to put them on by myself so spent the rest of the day taping and wet sanding. Was around 2 degrees today so even with the heater on in the garage it never got "warm" . Made good progress and got the wet sanded areas re-primed and ready for another coat of white tomorrow. I may be able to mount the bed to the truck on Sunday.(fingers crossed)
