Well I've had some bad luck recovering my seats. Went to a shop that I've used a few times and had good luck but new owners took over and my seat covers were not up to the level this truck is going to be built to. So I took it to another guy that I heard about from a friend and he said I have to recover the whole seat (minus the dark red pleats). No saving the junk work so I guess that will happen this summer sometime. Meanwhile I mounted these skirts to the base of the seat to finish off the base and a place to mount the switch. Doesn't matter if I damage the vinyl I guess. My guy said he will make it so the vinyl doesn't bunch up in the front like it does now .

Not sure if I'm going to put these into the back of the buddy seat but I bought them just in case. I hate not having drink holders. But they might really change that vintage appearance.

I think im going to skip the cup holders. I cant get myself to like the look. Well I want to keep the grain look in the metal on the seat skirts so that means I can't fill any holes in them. So I have to keep the plaquard that cadillac put on all passenger side skirts because it mounts with screws. So I took it and sanded off all the engraving so I can have new engraving put on for my truck. I'm not sure what I'm going g to put on it. Any ideas from you guys?

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Interior by Rod, Body by GMC
or GMC (large on the raised portion) and Super Custom following the shape of the emblem (you could also invert the emblem and have Super custom on the bottom) or GMC ENSpired |
Re: 67 GMC super custom build
I was thinking kind of what you said with the gmc on the reaised and super custom in the bottom. The enspired is funny too lol.
|
Re: 67 GMC super custom build
I agree on GMC on the raised portion and SUPER CUSTOM under it. Cool idea!

Had some of my dash together so I took a picture of all the lights. I'm loving the green

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
That's cool. Was it alot of work to switch everything to green?

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
No I just used led bulbs. They look sharp and use less power.

I found a small fuse box online and I purchased it. I'm going to add my gear vendor, heated seats fuses into it and whatever else I've added.

So I was packing up my original 67 door remotes i sold to kyleseal and I got to thinking I'd like to keep my 67 inner door control levers if I could make them work with the 72 door panels so I did a small modification to the 72 remotes I have to use with these door panels to let them accept the 67 handles.

I got the seat bottom covers painted last night. Not sure why they look more pale in these pictures. They look fine in person. That's odd.

Getting the holes for my mouldings finished up. U had to get nos eyebrow mouldings for the tail light pieces. The aftermarket ones I had In no way, shape or form could possibly even be manipulated to fit on. Total junk. The rest are mar-K and fit well but I was missing one set of clips for the upper gate mouldings.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
It's funny that you say that because it seems like I often have it together then take it apart to fit something then take it apart again but rarely take photos of the complete unit. Hopefully soon it will be all 1 color. My kids call it the rainbow truck.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Looks good. I love that 67-68 trim molding 1000x better than the giant 69-72 strips. Just a cleaner sleeker look IMO

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Thanks guys. That is the first full weekend in a long time I spent on the truck. I really wasn't looking forward to making all the rest of the holes to mount my trim and emblems but I did get it all done. Only drilled 1 wrong and had to weld and redo it. I can't imagine adding the trim after it's painted. That would be full on stress.

I removed my hood and am going to send my hood hinges to willie for restoration so tonight I got half way thru the next job I'm not that fond of doing. Being my truck is a 67 it did not have cab to fender seals. I have to drill the holes and mount them. I have tried this on 3 other cabs with new seals and they never work. So this time I took some originals and mounted them. They have been molded for 50 years and were a nice fit plus my doors can close and open without catching them! Passenger door next. The special washers that I had 3d printed worked absolutely awesome and with my door wiring boot mounted at an angle it won't get in the way of the seals like they would if they were mounted just on the face of the Pillar.

I Got the passenger side done today. Much easier the second go round. I realized that I put the seal backwards on the bottom 2 screws on the driver seal so I'll have to correct that.

OK so here's where most of you are going to think im nuts. I've decided not to use any fat mat or anything like that to put inside the doors, on the cab floor or firewall. I have decided to go completely stock. Which is basically nothing. But if I truly want the 60s experience it's gonna be loud lol. Just mocking up the new original style insulation with the heated seat wiring. I may put just on the back of the carpet but we'll see. Carpet will be original as well. No carpet under the seats.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

So here's something I've been thinking about for quite some time. I love the flat ribbon that I'm using for my heated seats. Lays flat under the rug and you can't feel it very much under the carpet. I want to run my fuel tank wire and interior lights wires there as well instead of by the sill plate and those wires are thin so no worries there. Now for the power seat motor wiring. I have a 10 gauge wire running there and you can absolutely feel it. It's thick. I have pondered running it thru the ribbon but I'm concerned it wouldn't carry enough current if both were being used at the same time. The chevelle I got the harness from also had a plastic sleeve around it but then you have a large bump. I was thinking I'd find something thinner to wrap this in.

I layed my original carpet in my cab to see if you could feel the wires and it's not too bad. I'm happy with it. Especially once the carpet is new it will look smoother.

Floor mat makes it so you can't even feel it.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

So instead of using the original sheet metal type screws for my sill plates I decided to use t nuts like this. They sit in the hole you drilled and give you extra thread for a real nut. Nut gets welded on the flange to the body underneath and it will tighten better without stripping and it will still look like a truss head from the top.

So tonight I mocked up the heat stove pipe into my air cleaner. The big block this air cleaner was on had a big metal piece that obviously did not fit my small block so this is what i made. I used 2 stove pipes to make 1 so both ends are expanded to fit tighter. Now I just have to weld it all together.

Today I made the mount for the instant aire connection. I'll run a metal vacuum line across the inner fender to the engine with a rubber hose on either side.

Tonight I added a cup holder to the ash tray of my truck. I was really hesitant about adding this because I hear how flimsy they can be. I used a 4 runner slider cup holder and had a 3d printed housing made. I'm helping this guy make one for 67 trucks as he has already made a housing for 68 to 72 trucks. I had to modify a bit and I'll report back so he can offer a unit for 67 trucks as well. I must say this turned out really well and it's nice and tight. I may just keep this . I also mounted it in a way that without any modification I can put the old ash tray in no problems. Takes 2 minutes.

My fog lights are close to my bumper brackets and james used a 72 chevy bumper which was smart because it uses longer brackets to clear the marker lights so now that I have it all together I wanted full adjustment of the fog lights so I bought some 72 4x4 brackets and I cut out the indented area and am going to add it to my brackets where it passes the fog lights. Should look stock.

I've been thinking about how I could add cornering lights as my cadillac telescopic column wiring in my truck is all set up to wire them in. I have 2 chrome cast bezels that fit under the mouldings nicely and Im Going to see if I can get a bulb to cast a proper beam for this before I think about any surgery to the fenders and if i do thisi will get a custom lens moulded for this. Again completely unnecessary but another option all the cars had available but not the trucks.
|
Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Those cornering lights were a cool feature, I like the version you're going for.
As I recall (in my 68), you could have one side or the other stay on when the Twilight Sentinel was running by engaging the turn signal when you shut off the car. |
