Then, I went into the house and Quickie-PShopped some trim on the sides. And gave her a little white in between the trim. Just for jollies.:lol::lol: http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps9db1d842.jpg |

Moving one step closer to the end.
I'm currently rebuilding the front end with all new ball-joints, bushings, shafts, tie rod ends, springs and shocks. I have all the parts cleaned up from the driver side (sorry no picture of that) Hopefully tomorrow I can start assembly. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I visited it in the paint jail ~ they have taken off all the sheet metal , doors etc. and bead blasted them and primered , painted the bottom of the can glossy black , I reminded him I wanted it all green , every inch .
The replacement cab shows almost no rust through except where I saw it before purchase , at the bottom of the A Pillars and forward ends of the rocker panels . The front fenders , hood and replacement core support are all de rusted and primed as well , I couldn't find any rust in either door . He says as soon as the cab is finished he'll begin striping the chassis and moving forward faster , still couldn't give me any E.T.D. though :waah: . There's now piles of cleaned up and re painted small items , brackets and so on , he re bushed all the door hinges . Yay ! :chevy: . |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
New rear brakes today and rust busting done this morning. More rust busting tomorrow. i think when I finally get rid of all the rust all that will be left is 4 tires and a steering wheel.;)

Got mine running for the first time in 17 years and drove it to the end of the street and back. Once I figure out how to load a video where I can link to it, I will.

I pulled a tired l6 and put a 72 350 in my 71 long bed this weekend... What a chore for a first time swapper to do alone. May rebuild the l6 or may sell it. Haven't decided yet.
Pulled the old motor Friday night. I didn't have the parking brake on so the truck rolled back a little and turned the transmission a bit. I'm pretty sure the only thing that stopped it from rolling further was the transmission dip stick. Oops... Saturday I replace the transmission mount and use my police crown vic to push the truck up the driveway to turn the transmission back. Got it pretty straight. Jacked up the tranny so it was level. And lastly put the old motor on a second engine stand so I could use the hoist. The wife had other things for me to do so that was about it for today. Today I got the motor in place and on the new motor mounts. Was getting late and have calculus homework so had to call it quits. At this point, I need to figure out how to get the last half inch between the engine and tranny cleared and get the transmission all the way turned right. Probably about 3/4" off. Any tips would be appreciated. |

Got the modulator valve, governor and accumulator back in. Plus, a nice coat of cast aluminum paint. As soon as I get a cherry picker borrowed, I'll be adding the torque converter and marrying it to my freshly rebuilt 350 and in the chassis it goes...!

Re: fixed up some headlight wiring

While prepping my truck for sale, I noticed the headlights were flaky. I bought a set of relays a while back so I finally decided to work on the entire headlight circuit. The flakiness came from the connection to the dimmer switch. The low beam wire overheated and melted the connector and the wire. I didn't want to scrounge around at the bone yard for another connector so I drew one up in the 'puter and 3D printed it. With the headlight relays in place, there won't be enough current flowing through the dimmer to be a problem again.

I went in to my work a couple hours early this morning and got all the new upper and lower a arm cross shafts along with all upper and lower balljoints, cut 1 1/2 coils off the springs. and purchased new flex front brake hoses.
just need to build the front shock relocate brackets and new shocks can put all the LH front suspension together but wainting on a new upper a arm stud that turned in the frame and had to use a cut off wheel and cut it so I could bet the a arm off. New studs should be here Friday. This is my 67 Chevy I picked up a few weeks ago, 350/th400, pretty descent shape other than all bushing in running gear are shot. Here is a shot of when I finished buffing here out , cant believe this actually came out as good as it did. Wildcard |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Since the weather was nice, I went ahead and finished my carb tweaks. The new 50cc accelerator pump is in, and I was able to verify that I am running a 6.5hg power valve.
Got the fuel filters installed, and managed to fire it up for the first time in almost a month. First impressions are that the flat spot is now gone, and it should run like I want it to. Just a few more tweaks with the fuel system, and then it's on to the interior electrics, and suspension. |

Hello, isn`t there 2sets of holes in the frame and front crossmember for motor mount bracket locations, one set holes for 6cyl and other for v8 but thought they were farther spread than the inch or so you need, my first was a 68 I6 and had to move the brackets to put the 327 in but that was when I was 16yrs old. my 67 now already had a 350. Good Luck, Wildcard |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
BugzC10 that's a great idea for the cup holder, I have a similar one in my 89 chevy pickup which is optional only really seen a few amount of trucks that have those, haven`t looked yet but I have heard you can purchase them in LMC truck. Cool
I got almost all of the rebuilt front a arms with all new cross shafts, balljoints and brake hoses installed on the truck today after work, Hope the upper a arm mounting stud I ordered comes in tomorrow, I have all the RH suspension put together and the upper a arm loosely bolted in just need to slide the new stud thru. also got the self adjuster in the front brakes freed up and adjusted. I am going to keep the drums all the way around just add a powerbrake booster will work fine for me. Going to get the TJ springs in tomorrow and start making the shock relocate bracket. will post pics soon. Wildcard |

Getting ready for the Mariposa car show tomorrow. Up at 5:00am and the Boss and I are off to
meet another truck on the way at 6:35am. First time since she's been painted that RAT's been hit with water. The dust build up under the car cover wasn't coming off with a dust mop this time. So, wash and blow dry. How come the windows are always so hard to wash? It's funny taking the garage-fed RAT to a car show with a bunch of $100,000 door slammers. Wonder if those guys drive theirs. And, the lame classes they've set up call for, "Pickup Up To 1976". That means, any pickup from 1815 thru 1976. Makes sense, huh? Not that I give a crap, with all that high-end metal around. But there *are* six classes for Corvettes. Oh, well. I don't go there to complain. It'll be a fun day. |

I finished getting all the rebuilt front suspension parts, Here is a shot of it with the front coils cut 1 1/2 coils, haven't gotten the rear drop springs in yet pulled it out of the garage to get these shots then put in back in and got the left rear spring out and the Jeep TJ spring put in, but other side the head on the spring ear bolt going thru the truck arm broke the head off. and I need to figure out a way to get the broked bolt out, spring and the lower mounting ear is still on the truck arm.
I think I`m goin to get my grinder with a cutoff wheel and cut the the bottom of the coils spring as low as I can and then heat the truck arm where the bolt goes thru and see if that will loosen it up. Here is a single or couple shots of it with the front lowered and not the rear yet. Headed out of town tomorrow morning to go to a pull and save wrecking yard in Spokane Wa, to find some parts I need, swaybar, powerbrake booster assembly, LH door and have them cut a top off another truck for me so when I chop the top 4inchs, LH door, look around for seat options, and what ever other goodies I can find, Wildcard |

Just got back from the Mariposa (CA) Car Show.
Great show because, beside the weather being 72 degrees and sunny, and a free BBQ lunch included in the $35 price of entry, there are only about 250 cars...A really nice size that allows you to really check 'em all out. Here are a few pics: http://s326.photobucket.com/user/mag...%20Show?sort=3 Here's RAT at the show: http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k...pse2a90345.jpg |
