Took the body to a buddies shop. He will media blast then coat the floors, fix the hacked dash, couple of rust spots on the window frame and do a firewall. He is very talented and does a lot of metal work.

Getting a little help to fast forward this a bit. I will focus on filling holes in the frame plus making the engine and trans pretty.

Looks good Doug. I confirmed that my pre-fabed x member wont work. Not surprised. I will have to check the rule book but I think bringing in a professional to work on your suburban might disqualify you from our competition.

Man you sure do have a lot of fancy tools... If my wife would just stop buying all those losing lottery tickets maybe I could have a couple myself. I ran 300 amp service to my house when I built it in hopes of doing a big shop out back but that never happened. You're doing a great job on that old thing..

Nice, kinda looks like a burb again. I'll vote for "bringing in a professional to work on your suburban" is ok, as long as it's not to do some major work. LOL

Just a side note, the 35 Master coupe I sold just over a year ago is on the road. Owner texted me this. I told him I changed my mind and would gladly refund his money. :)

Thanks, Doug. It is. It's a '69 essentially original (aside from what looks to be a decades old repaint and the addition of the awful aftermarket trim) swb medium olive/white top farm truck. It's pretty rusty down low but I'm planning to clean it up, redo the interior, go through the suspension, and drive it.

I love these old trucks!

Been working on cleaning up garage and doing maintenance stuff around here so I haven't made any Burb progress. Luke has blasted the bottom and inside, primed, fixed the cut out places at the rear sides. I decided to scrap the 99R46 boxes and go for the cleaner look.

Ha, those are Cindy's! Only because we were only taking those pics and leaving. Usually I wear steel toe Red Wing boots. They saved my foot recently when I dropped a full size argon bottle on it.

Thanks Kees and Richard.

Lizard Skin is done. Pulled the powertrain out and took chassis back to Luke for firewall fab.

Yeah, I had big plans to fill some holes in the frame and that didn't happen. Too much other maintenance to do...yard, equipment, other cars.

Did you use the lizard skin, sound control or ceramic insulation or both?

He used both, Lowers and yep, it is Lizard Skin...hopefully it will work well. I think I didn't apply it heavily enough on my truck and it was pretty dismal for sound reduction.

I had really good help on the engine. Grandson now knows what tools to use and where they are in the tool box. Grandpa is loving that!

This engine was pretty rust flakey with only a little oil crud around the oil filter. Dawn dish soap in hot water did a reasonable job on the oil crud, followed by two applications of oven cleaner with hose spray off. A little work with a die grinder and wire wheel helped tremendously. The block still needs a more help before paint so I will probably do some spot blasting. Makes me jittery thinking of the blast media and where it could infiltrate into the engine.

I agree Oldman
I used both Lizard skin products on mine, really happy with results. Remember both is only .080" Here is a vid I made showing my results.
http://youtu.be/GymwCS3Mxqo
I had my whole motor and trans sandblasted. Then I took it apart, plug with rag, 2 layers of duck tape on all holes, nothing got in.

Thanks Jim, we do try to make it fun for the boys. He did a nice job painting his bike. Now to find him another project. We have an old 185 three wheeler and a Montgomery Ward scooter from the early 70's stashed away ...hmm...

Lower, thanks for sharing your experience with Lizard Skin. The video was impressive and I imagine we will be happy with it on the Burb.

I will probably do the same with blasting the engine and will follow your lead on the duct tape.

Possm, thanks for thinking of all of us Burb guys. That one is nice and looks like fun, though the entry price to join in looks pretty steep. Wow. Been tagging along on your truck and it is looking sweet!

Storms plus a fair amount of rain has tons of limbs down and grass growing like crazy around here....so it seems I have hours and hours of yard work every Saturday. Tough to get in the shop!
