Sounds like you have a real bad ground somewhere in your column..

Did the idiots that stole your rig bust the column?

With a huge screwdriver and a ball-peen hammer. Somehow they figured if they smashed it enough they could get their POS 3-speed linkage to work - in place of the automatic's linkage.

I can only put it down to tweeker logic. :smoke:

Just picked the truck up at the shop. Brakes backed off and working fine. Yoke replaced (which should have been done in the first place), so there's no drip from the rear seal. They pulled the TH350 to see what the noise was - but everything appears to be perfect. It's a bit quieter, but I think I'm going to have to get used to the extra sound.

Louder stereo Mac. I've found it solves most noises, hums, rattles, etc.

Took here down by the beach tonight - runs great - much higher top end with the brakes not binding. Still no charging - so it's on the trickle charger presently. Even with the two-barrel, she gets up and scoots.

Yeah - I know exactly what you mean. I loved it in the Chevelle and drove the thing everywhere - all up and down the state, without missing a beat.

Re: The 283 Rebuild Begins

Drove the '283' a couple of times this weekend and started to install the tool box that was just laying there in the back, so the lid will swing open. Because it was free and is from a mini-pickup, I made some brackets to bolt it to the bed sides and raise it to where it's accessible.

My boy's starting a landscaping business this month - so 'The Tan' is going to work and a lockable tool box is mandatory.

Blew off Jason's good advice to check all the nuts and bolts again and almost lost the alternator onto the street.

This unit is mounted in the lower position and when my kid was getting ready to leave yesterday I heard something weird under the hood. Outside bolt from the bracket to the alternator was about half way out - rubbing on the fan belt. Grabbed a safety nut, a couple of wrenches and he was on his way in about two minutes.

I'll be going over all the fasteners again.

What bumper do you have on there? Looks like a 67-up version? It has the rubber grips on the top it looks like?

Don't know - came that way from the previous owner, and yes - that's rubber on top. I hate that bumper (other than when having to climb up in the bed) and I will be looking to put a roll pan across the back - so I can start getting tickets again.

Mac. ;)

Re: The 283 Rebuild Begins

Thanks Mac. Curious though why you hate that bumper? I was actually thinking about putting it on my truck, well the one that has the built in backup lights in it. The only problem is LMC only lists it for '67-'72.

 Well, actually - it's my driving that makes the bumper a problem.

Backing up - I've already run into the parking garage wall and a couple of short parking lot poles. When I do this, the bumper scrunches up and hits the edge of the bed, which the previous owner had Bondo'd on the corners and the bumper cuts right through the paint and filler.

Come to think of it - I'd better stick with it for a while, because you can imagine what the back of my truck would look like if it just had a roll-pan. (Better put a camera back there with the roll-pan installation.)

LMAO....too funny.

Wonder if you could do me a huge favor and take a few closeup pictures of it so I can possibly match it up with the one I want to order from LMC. I called them but they have no tech support what so ever and the lady on the phone couldnt tell me anything about its size etc. Thanks Mac!

Of course I can, and don't tell Joe, but I'll try to include them with the 'Donut Derelicts' pics I took Saturday - sometime tomorrow. I have to relearn the Sony download system, cause the brain cells are old and few.

Thanks Mac and I appreciate it! Btw Sony Download system isn't the easiest so it isn't just your brain lol.

 It's okay once I get going, but I don't have the guts yet to take the memory stick to Wal-Mart and plug it into the Kodak print maker.

Afraid I'll launch nuclear tipped missiles towards China, or something.
