Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks
Here's our 60 GMC. 350 with a Super T10 4 speed, 4.09 Dana 44 rear. 1975 front suspension, power steering and front discs. 5 spoke Americans and black lacquer paint I sprayed 10 years ago. The paint is a lot more beat up than it shows in the pics. I'm respraying in Blitz Black in the near future.
I always wanted diamond tufted upholstery so I gave it a shot on all the interior panels. The seats remain to be done. The 350 is dressed up to look like a 327 with a hidden smog connection on the rear of the passenger valve cover. http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/7562/002yus.jpg URL=http://img22.imageshack.us/i/004xee.jpg/]http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/6126/004xee.jpg http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/6639/030zfj.jpg http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/5521/040odi.jpg http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/5153/050d.jpg |
Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks
Mark,
Long time no type, how you been? I hope all is well with you and the family. You still live in that beautiful area of Oregon? You remember those pictures you send me WAY back in 2000 when I first got my GMC. I'm sorry to say they went with the flood. :( Your truck is looking REAL sharp, as usual. I'm so close to having a real truck I can see the finish line! For those who don't know Mark was the very first GMC trucker I'd met way back when I fiirst got into the truck hobby. He helped me many times and send some pictures of his ride that kept me going for a few years. |

Just a few of my 65 that has been NtheFamily since new. Uncle bought it new, dad bought from him, dad gave it to me. Dad and I rebuilt. Took several years to do since doing it all ourselves on nights and weekends.
Built a 327, now in process of starting a 383 stroker for it. Looks better in pics than it really is. |

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks
Thanks. Diamond tufting was the top of the food chain (above pleat and roll) in the late 50's early 60's but only the high dollar guys could afford it. Many of the hot rods and gassers in the mid-late sixties had full diamond tuft interiors, or tufted door panels with diamond sewn seats, and the later versions had smaller diamonds with more buttons (which I was after).
There was a 1950 Olds coupe in high school with tufted seats that everyone lusted after, even though one of the button caps was missing. It's a tremendous amount of work but doesn't require a sewing machine making it ideal for a home project. Eventually I'll finish the seats to match. |

Hello folks. I've been a member for a while, though not very active. I had a 70 short-step for a while but was more project than I could handle at the time. Sold it off a few years ago. I picked this one up today. It's a '64 long bed, straight six, 3 on the column....not too much of a "project", but couldn't pass it up for the price.

Re: How about some pics of 60-66 Trucks
The heater is the stock 60-63 economy recirculating model. I found it on Ebay after going through a couple of street rod heaters and a factory deluxe fresh air heater that constantly smelled like antifreeze. The original heater motor was tired so I swapped the motor to one from a Fiero. These are newer, work better, move more air and in the Fiero they are mounted in the trunk so anything you get from a wrecking yard is very clean.
Essentially it's the inside portion of the deluxe heater and it works great up in the frozen north without all the clutter in the engine compartment. The 2nd pic shows the Fiero motor looking through the glove box door. The object in the middle is the cruise control module. URL=http://img352.imageshack.us/i/heater02.jpg/]http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/5687/heater02.jpg http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/8638/heater01.jpg On true tufted upholstery, it's actually one piece of material which is pierced with covered buttons and the material is folded into pleats. The buttons are prong type bent over the back and the edges are stapled. I'll post a tip thread shortly showing the details of how it's done. The trickiest part is arriving at the correct allowance for how much bigger the cover is than the button pattern on the backing. For backing I used 3/16" ABS plastic although some use 1/4" plywood. Following are a couple of shots of the assembly process: http://img376.imageshack.us/img376/8000/u002.jpg http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/9034/u005.jpg http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/4416/u006.jpg |
