Its coming along slowly but surely. I just painted the frame and I'm about to put it back together. I also broke down and bought a 4 link suspension. I did not plan on that. If I kept changing my mind its gonna take forever. One other change a friend of mine give me some 55 fenders, so I guess now I will make the truck match the car.

Thats exactly what happened to my project. My son started college after I started this truck, he took 6 years to finish and I'm still not done.

Looking great.....

I have to ask, what tailgate did you go with? Blank, or the new reproduction GMC for the 55 - 59 trucks?

Thanks! I used a flat smooth gate. I just got the tail gate back today.

Hi Cal
Looks great
I've been visiting your thread almost daily to stay caught up on your progress. Any idea when we can see a new video of another road test with the painted box. first video was awesome... truck sounded great with the exception of the brake

Glenn

I finshed the wood in the bed and got the tailgate on just before I went to a car show on Saturday. Here's a few pics of the bed and when I was at the show.

Looks great, I can see why you went with a smooth tailgate. I was hoping to get a report on the new 55 - 59 reproduction tailgate.

The wood looks great. Did you try to color match it to the interior leather?

Hey Daniel,
All I did was go down to Home Depot and pick out a color.

Thanks Kabwe! I'm hoping someday to see your 55 and/or 58 in person at a show and to meet you so we can sit around and shoot the bull for a bit.

Don't worry this will happen because I got to see that truck in person.

Re: 58 GMC Project

BAD NEWS. Monday I drove my truck down to a local classic truck parts store. I got the parts I needed and started to head back to my truck when a guy came up to me and said, "Hey you have a puddle under your truck!” So look under the rear to see gear oil dripping from the rear diff. At first I thought, okay, it's just the cover bolts loose. So I ask the shop owner if he had a socket I could use to tighten up the bolts. So I go under the truck and see a hole in the cover and dents pushing out. Crap! It looks like something broke loose under the cover. So now I call a tow truck to haul me home. So the next day I pulled the cover off to see the damage. Well here's what happened. Three of the ring gear bolts came out and 2 were loose. Crap! I thought lock tight was used when we put the ring gear on. So the good news is other then some damaged bolts and a damaged cover, everything else was not damaged. Man, was I lucky the ring and pinion gears were not damaged. So, when I put the new bolts back in you can bet I will have lock tight on those bolts!

Yep, your right!! I'm sure glad that the guy came up to me and told me about the puddle. I would have never known and it could have been disastrous!!

Hey Cal, Make sure you clean the threads real well before you loctite them or it won't hold. I use a little alcohol to clean them first.
