Yes, got some progress today. Got the reinforcing plates tack welded on and the front bumper mocked up. Test fit the winch also, and I have some more major alterations to do this Kennesaw bumper to make it fit. Original plan was to cut off the front fender fangs so the bumper would fit back farther. That was what I liked about this bumpers design to begin with, but we have come up with a better plan. The front bumper mounts that Kyle put on this bumper never would have fit a 1st gen without cutting out part of the outer grille assy. Also they are not long enough to incorporate all of the possible bolt locations. I also want the winch out just a little bit farther from the grille assy. So, John is going to cut off the bumper mounts and have some longer ones fabbed up that actually fit the contour of the front frame horns and frame. In turn, I won't have to cut off the fangs, we just have to fab up some extra metal on the corners to wrap around. Put the grille back in, and checked for fitment, and came up with a plan to make this thing look good and be very stout. Whew, long day. Here's some pic's!Attachment 1120809

I see what hold up is on your build. A Lazy-boy recliner! All I have in my shop are 5 gal. buckets. That way no one spends much time sitting around, when there's work to be done. LOL!!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Right on Turp! John's knees are bad, and he likes to sit back and think/plan between weldment. Besides, we do a lot of grilling at the shop, and you just got to have a place to sit and eat! Very happy with the progress, and this is going to be very well done when it's finished!

Here's some pic's of the brackets that came on the wincher. Gonna have to cut them off and weld on some new ones that will make it fit right. Oh well, it will be done right-the CHAOS way when it's done!Attachment 1121148

Nothing new on the K5, but off topic, I did have to buy a new set of shoes for the daily driver. P265/75/R16 Michelin LTX M/S, really nice, just put a set of 17" ones on the wife's Envoy last month also. Ouch, Ouch, say's the blazer fund! Tried out the new skins at the gravel pit tonight, and am very happy with them.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Oh, Oh, Oh, completly off topic-but I stumbled upon a project for my wife today. Went to a friend of our's house and found a surprise way back in the woods, and Oh, what was it? A 1970 Chevy malibou-chevelle! Weeds and such growing up through it and etc, but not that bad! It really is not that bad, but I won't know for sure till wendsday or so when my buddy John can haul it out and bring it home for me. Dropped $200.00 on it, it is way rusted out but I think I can restore this one! I'll get some pic's as soon as we go hook it up! Oh, it has no motor or transmission, so the game is on!

Thank's ColoradoK5! Went and took John out to look at the extraction site tonight. Decided we are going to use one of his dual axle trailers and my daily driver GMC to haul it home. Car is pretty rusty, but John said it was $200.00 well spent. I will take a bunch of pic's as it comes home. Worked a little bit on the pole barn to make room for the wife's new project! Oh, by the way, the new bumper brackets should be here tommorrow! Gonna be real cool with a 1970 K5 and a 1970 malibou/chevelle side by side in the pole barn!

Well we are still waiting on the plates to be finished for the front bumper mounts, should be done tommorrow. I did get the wife's project hauled into the Chaos shop tonight though. I am not sure how far I am going to go with this, but I had to save this one. Even if it does not end up being our's, I just hate to see stuff like this happen to the good stuff! Here's some pic's, starting with where I found it and ending at the Chaos shop!Attachment 1125297

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Thank's warbucket! I spent about three hours cleaning out the interior tonight, what a mess. Still can't get the passenger door open, lock is rusted real bad! Got most of the old carpet and stuff ripped out, but have to get the pass door open to continue. Right now, at this point, I am leaning toward just cleaning this up and trying to sell it to some one who can really restore this car. I am thinking I am more committed to finishing this 1970 K5 build, I am getting closer everyday!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Completely off topic again, but got the chevelle interior and trunk gutted out the last couple of days. Committed now into selling it as is or just parting it out. Need funds for the K5 build!Got a lot of chevelle parts off of this critter that may be worth some $$$.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Wanting to upgrade my ignition to HEI. But, I do not want to modify my firewall to make room for the bigger distributor cap assy. John wants to move the motor and etc forward a inch or so. Any ideas on what else I can do? Anybody?

Hei should fit without any mods. It is tight, but does fit.

Had one in mine, with about 3/4" of space. Flexing should be sise to side. Or the one w/o the coil in the cap likeSwamprat said

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Ok, thank's swamprat! Looking into the Mallory unilite setup. Kind of pricey, about $275.00 from Summit or Jegs, but way smaller, and should fit with no issues! Anybody else running this, and are there any other mods to install one? Sure beats moving the whole drivetrain forward to make room. Ran it by the BOSS (wife) tonight, and she gave me the go ahead!

This is what i'm running, its been trouble free (edit: since 1996), make sure to follow instructions regarding the ballast resister if your truck has one.

I found out the hard way as i had a larger diameter hei and had my stuff all set, pulled the dizzy to install the engine and found i couldn't even drop it in place after the install, it was my only solution unless i used the stocker. Good Luck.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Not sure quite yet, but I think I might have a plan for this Chevelle. It is not something I want to tackle as a resto, but my friend John might want it as a toy race car project. Say's he want's to make it into a street legallish old school race car. Roll cage, tubbed out, etc. But still look like old school on the beat up outside. I am thinking of swapping it to him for labor hours on the K5 in the future! On the plus side, he said I can keep all the interior stuff, seats and etc, that I can sell to recoupe my initial investment. Sounds like more progress money for the K5!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Man great find and rescue on the Chevelle I love them cars! sounds like your friend and you will make out on that deal. K5 $$ is always better than spending it on another project ive learned one at a time.
