i made a side profile pattern of the complete frame and then made a new pattern with all the right angles so i can lay out the 2x4 Tubing and get it all cut, i am also making fish plates that will be mounted on the inside of the tubing and be plug welded at every joint.
and did a little welding on the floor panel patches |

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy
looking at the template im wondering if you can have al the sides of the frame cut out in one length on a waterjet have them bend where needed and weld the edges together intoo the boxshape , it actually might save a bunch of grinding and should look a lot cleaner but it might be hard to control warping and keeping the box shape square

in. chassis fab is right up my alley. i kind of prefer the 4x4 stuff but i love fab no matter if there is a transfer case or not!
the frame table is really cool. i am wishing i had one now as i set up to link/bag the rear of my truck. a lot can be done without a table if you spend plenty of time measuring and tacking and bracing. Ryan |

Finally got started on the frame rails ! i have them tacked up for the moment they have to comepletely back apart so the inner fish plates can be installed and plug welded in place (that is the reason for all the holes)

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy
Excellent! Looks like just enough room over the axle for a bumpstop when it's aired out! Now for a bumpstop on TOP of the frame for the rear seat passenger...

That's gonna be sick! Are you getting the fish plates done on a burn table, water jet, laser.....? What's that piece with the bolt circle?

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy
Help us non big time frame fabricators out here - what are fish plates and plug welds?

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy
yes cut on a plasma table, that piece is to hold the rearend at exactly 15 inches off the ground so i can set it up to clear a 30 inch tire and wheel combo

It just strengenthens each joint where there is more then just the one welded seam holding each joint together |
Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy
looks nice mike !!!!!!

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy
You may already be planning this, but you might groove the vertical seams so that your actually making a butt with backing weld instead of just a grooved butt weld. that will tie both pieces of tube to each other and the fish plate at the joint.
looks great though. |
