Awesome work on the firewall! You have my curiosity up with the part on the fixture. You show it on a skeleton fixture, with a ball peen hammer tactfully sitting on top, but I assume that it was actually formed with an English Wheel?

Made sure there was room for AC using the Vintage Air hollow evaporator. Very light making installation fabrication a little easier.

Looks great Doug. Let me know if you need to shorten your glove box lining. I did it on my 48 and it turned out slick. you really cant tell it was modified.

So while we were out in PA I headed over to Iceburgh's place for advice on Burb building. Jim and his father in law are great guys and very nice. Really appreciated our brief time together. Plus the Burb is really nice! Drool!
Jim's advice was to keep building, get the Burb done and move on to the next project. He picked up a really nice 1960 shown here! Thanks again Iceburgh! Planning to get back on the Burb soon and will update when something worthy gets done! |

Grandson spotted this 3 foot black snake in the shop. Snake wasn't very happy when I carried him out. He didn't know how lucky he really is. When I was a kid and a snake like this was encountered, all heck broke loose. German Shepards went nuts, Grandma would really work the snake over with a hoe....Snake never had a chance. They still kinda creep me out and I DON'T want them in my shop. |
Re: 48 Burb, bagged, 5.3, 20 year wait
might want to lay out some rodentcide or traps. Mice might be trying to find a winter home!

I feel the same way about spiders. everyone freaks out and says "agggghhh burn it with fiiiyyyeeerrrr" and I just scoop them up and put them out. education is the right way to handle it, taught my girls catch and release, when my oldest was 9 she brought me a jar of bees. they werent even mad, just confused. I even stopped a guys foot from smashing a jumping spider that popped out to see what all the noise was when I was cutting some old metal. he jumped on my hand (the spider, not the guy) and walked around then popped off somewhere. |
Re: 48 Burb, bagged, 5.3, 20 year wait

Re: 48 Burb, bagged, 5.3, 20 year wait

Another friend with a long and strong auto service engineering background is theorizing the drive shaft (newly manufactured) failed at high speed. The length and weight caused it to begin whipping, contacting the ground leading to the failure. Driveshaft jammed to the ground, prying the pinion up and back, leading to the housing failure. He advised if the rear locked first, the driveshaft would have twisted rather than bent. He might have a point. There are three fresh gouges in the road evident before the oil was spread over the surface. So, possible he is right...he makes a compelling case. |

Re: 48 Burb, bagged, 5.3, 20 year wait
First congratz on your daughters wedding!!
Second, nice pics!!! ;) Third, that was quite a road rage, to damage all that! Never seen that before... |
Re: 48 Burb, bagged, 5.3, 20 year wait
That theory makes sense. Was there any other damage to the car? Glad they got pulled over safely.
|
Re: 48 Burb, bagged, 5.3, 20 year wait
WOW! Never seen that kind or destruction. Do you know if the driveshaft was on the edge of being to long for a one piece?
