Thanks for the compliments guys. Pete - I can get a SPID pic. Anything in particular you'd like to know about the truck?

Here you go Pete. The SPID, and also a pic of the order form from back in 1968 when the truck ordered and purchased. No vintage pics or anything, but the truck really doesn't look any different now than it did back in the day, with the exception of the hubcaps. I bought those and had the wheels painted.

Re: post your 67-72 4x4
Bill, that's priceless being your grandfathers and all. Great truck with some great documentation. Bet you wish you had that 50 GMC dump he traded too! Not everybody gets the chance at such a great truck, let alone the history with it. CONGRATS!!!!

Re: post your 67-72 4x4

Pete,
Glad he held on to it over the years. Those are cool stories to hear. It looks pretty solid other than the rockers. Ray |

My pickup deemed ol' blue next to her younger sister ol' betsy 99 Sierra. Blue's a 1972 GMC Sierra but has the sierra grande equipment on the options sticker... If anyone could tell me why it wasnt badged a sierra grande thatd be awesome, i can only assume its because it doesnt have all the trim? Anyway im thinking of lifting her a bit, 4 or 6in? Im open to suggestions and what tire size?

My 79 4WD I built in 86. Kept it until 1995. 4 inch susp lift 3 inch body lift
38.5" Monster Mudders. 383 stroker motor auto trans. The 68 GMC I just picked up last weekend. Plan on a 6 inch lift and 38's on it as well. It has a 350 4spd. Or maybe put that body on a 2001 frame? Anyone here ever done that conversion? Maybe a late 80's chassis? |
Re: post your 67-72 4x4
Nice score on the 68. 6" lift wont work very well on the older truck you will need about 8" to keep the 38 from rubbing. I have 71 with 6" lift and 36" and adding 1" body lift to fit 37". I had a 84 I bough new for 24 years ran 6" lift 2" body and 38's. I miss that truck.

Hey fellas, i know this isnt a help thread but i was hoping to get some help since its a 4x4 one. My '72 3/4 does great in 4 wheel and even does really well in two wheel off road, however i noticed that when i was trying to do some doughnuts in the dirt the truck wouldnt whip around it would just kinda turn... I believe i had the front hubs still locked however it was in 2 wheel drive. Ive also witnessed only one rear tire on that truck spin before when the hubs were locked and id gas it in the dirt but when i unlocked them they both spun again... Just wondering why this happens and if i need the rear end serviced or rebuilt or if its normal. Thanks for any help.

Re: post your 67-72 4x4
Interesting about the front hubs not locked but in 4wd, think it is still loading up the transfer case and turning both the front end just not the hubs so maybe effects the rear a bit trying to turn both front and rear, wouldn't hurt to service the rear anyway..
