I had all intentions of getting some crap done today, but the crap got me instead.

I was on here this morning waiting for the wife to get out of the shower and I heard the down stairs toilet bubbling............What the heck (I new what it was, but didn't want to admit it on my day.) I grew up on a septic tank and never had it pumped. This new one lasted 8 years. I found out these new divided tanks need to be pumped every 3-5 years. It was packed full on the inlet side. The guy said you could probably walk on it. Nah that's alright.:lol: Normally they charge $350 but add $100 for a sunday call. He worked at it for 2-3 hours and did a fantastic job.

That's gonna set back my parts buying even more.:sumo:

I removed all the rock I just put down cause I knew they wouldn't take their time with it. The tank had 2 about 18"x18" concrete plugs for access. It has been years since I had seen a septic tank. The last one I saw had 3 sections that made up a lid. And the new one even had a filter on the exit end. I couldn't believe it.

Happy Birthday Alan and sorry to hear about your septic system.

I had the same problem with the door seals on my '63. After I glued the seal into place, the door would not close. I basically just pushed the seal on, no tension, when I got to the end I had about 6” inches left that I cut off. I let it sit for about a week also thinking the compression of the door would fix it. It didn't. I finally pulled the seal off and then put it back on with a little tension. When I got it glued back in place I had another 4-6” of slack.

I think it's got to be put on somewhat tight, just not sure how tight.




I know that's not a lot of info but hope it helps.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALLAN. It sucks to have that happen on your B-Day.
I just had the Metzler rear tire on my bike grow a bubble the size of a hand ball. It happened in Palm Springs, and had to have the bike towed home. There goes some of my parts money too.:waah:

Thanks Don, I adjusted on my Rt door some and got it closing better. I think it will be fine. Just have too do the Lt door when I get motivated again. I had alot of motivation this morning.

Thanks Greg for buying the inner fenders, and no I wasn't kidding that I would put you to work. LOL Super Chevy is next weekend in Commerce GA. I was hoping to make it up there with a little cash. Hopefully 198plus will buy the bed tomorrow.

Happy B-day Alan. Hey on the door seal my friend at the body shop said that he will put the seal on first, adjust the doors to fit then removes it and paints. That way when he puts it back on there's no problems with the doors closing.

Nice to see you're getting some work. In no time you'll be starting you're other truck. Found a 58 here on cl for 300. No title no engine no trans. I don't know how hard it would be to get a title, I might go look at it tomorrow.

but what kind of grinder(s)/discs do you use for grinding your welds?

Alan, the extra work was probably a birthday present from a higher authority. I like to use that term. Got to use it once at work. I had a persimmon tree blow down on our campus during a storm. It was the only one we had. I got a nasty letter some time later from a Biology professor demanding to know why we removed it while he was off for the summer, and that he used it in his classroom teachings. I proudly told him it was removed by a higher authority!:lol:

I get my grinding disc's and cut off wheels from here. They have great prices, and a better product than Harbor Freight. Check them out.

This is what I use to dress my welds down. I use the 1991 to level and the 1406 or 1407 to smooth.

Since I couldn't work on 198's I welded my hood tonight. It got too late to grind. I've got a little over 2 hrs so far. I still need to grind and clean up and touch up spots that I missed.

Tried to clean out the joint the best I could.

Tack welded about every 3/8"-1/2".

As it is now. It's hard to make a pretty weld when you jump around so much. All will be ground smooth.

Those welds don't count if you know you will be grinding them down anyway. Can't wait to start doing that to mine.

From Left to right
PN 1991 is a thick grinding stone for a die grinder (need an arbor to attach)
PN 1987 is a thin cut off wheel for a die grinder (need an arbor to attach)
PN 1407 is 36 grit 3" roloc also available in 2"
PN 1406 is 50 grit 3" roloc also available in 2"

I'll try to post another pic tonight of some stuff I use.

I used to do it that way alan but it seams to cost alot... I went to an off label brand for my roloc and small disks. But the do the best job and more control

I have used some cheap stuff over the years and find myself using 3M again.

I've used WIW thread without much luck so I will post my question here. I need to know WIW on the steering wheel and ring. The wheel has some stress cracks. And pitting on the chrome. Thanks
