I need a brace for the starter. Does anyone have one that they are not going to use? I could make one but, it is easier to just buy one from somebody. |
Re: 1968
George I'm pretty sure you don't need a brace for the starter, I've never used one on any of mine.

Re: 1968
Today I started with the bed side pocket holes. Got both of them welded up and some bondo applied and sanded. Then I spray some primer over the areas that I worked on.
I started working on some of the little dings on the inside of the bed sides. It is coming alone quiet well. Tomorrow I will work on the other side if I finish the first one complete. It took me about 4 hours to complete the holes and sides. and I figure about 3 more to do the sides. So I might not get the other one started. |
Re: 1968
Today I welded and bondo the other bed side stake holes. I still didn't finish the one I started yesterday. But I am working on both of them at the same time. It was so hot that I stoped and took the rest of the day off. Maybe later I can go back outside and finish one bed side. Even with the new insulation in the ceiling it stilll is super hot in the shop today.

Re: 1968
Good progress, George. It rained for 2 days here, but cooled down to mid 70's today. I took the old truck to work, and then a car show on the way home. It was fun to drive her a bit. I remember when I put my starter on. I don't know why, but the flywheel cover was a bear to get on, too.

Re: 1968
Were you able to use the driveshaft you got from me with the th400? It came out of a th350 truck

Today I finished with both of the bed sides. A lot of sanding and bondo and more sanding and a little more bondo and more sanding. I got them looking real sweet. Then I sprayed some white primer on them untill my brother-in-law come back up. He will tell me if they are as sweet as I think they are I hope they are ready for K2 and the orange paint. I think they are but I will wait for him. You don't know how much I wanted to paint the orange on them.

Re: 1968

Just to keep my mind off of the problem of life. Didn't get a lot done but it did help. So maybe tomorrow I will post something. Brian thanks a lot for posting your comment. Bhelton That is why i did a little on the fender just to keep busy and thanks. |
Re: 1968
Well it is over. The funeral and my friend is coming home from the Hosiptal tomorrow I hope. Now I can get my head back in the build. Today I sanded some more on the drivers side rear fender. As you can see where I repaired it a few months ago.
Maybe tomorrow I will finish the fender. I hope to shoot some primer on it also. http://i.imgur.com/xJvqydMl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/FlulvT1l.jpg |
Re: 1968
Sorry about both your friends, George. Your work looks great, keep it up!

Re: 1968
Today I finshed the pass side rear fender. It came out real nice. I sanded the k2 primes that was shoot on it a few months ago. Then I shoot some more white primer and I am real satified with the results.
http://i.imgur.com/asAxo9Il.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uaMteLVl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/0jFIjf3l.jpg I would have shoot some orange on it if it wasn't for the love bugs here in Florida in September. I tried to shoot orange on the bed sides but now I have to re-do them. Love bugs are a real pain this time of year. If you guys are planning on a trip down here to Florida don't drive your truck. In September and May is a big no no. The love bugs will eat up up paint. |
Re: 1968
It looks like it turned out really nice George.

Re: 1968
Today I worked on the other fender (drivers side). It has a lot of work to do untill it is done. But it is coming alone just fine. I hope to shoot some primer on it also tomorrow. But first I need to cut the cross member holes so the exhaust pipes can go thru them. I have put that off long enough.
|
Re: 1968
I put it off again. The cross member that is.
Why is it that when you make a plan someone always seen to change it? I sand blasted some parts today. I did not want to sand blast today. But what the hey. I did get to finish the drivers side rear fender. It had a little rusty holes in the inter lip of the wheel well. And a lot of pitting so I go it taking care of. Monday I am going to cut the cross member for the exhaust. I hope. http://i.imgur.com/OUTkpyMl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/dxW0Eacl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3gif6zGl.jpg The only way a person could see the holes in the lip was to stick their head in the wheel well. But I knew they were there. So now they are not. |
Re: 1968
Today is a good day to paint this month but only one thing. It is 100% humanity like man it is raining for the next two days. And the love bugs are laying low. So I will wait and do more work on the fender.
|
Re: 1968
Today, I cut one side out for the exhaust on the cross member. It has been raining down here a lot. Maybe tomorrow I will do the other side and then I will post pictures.
There is so much moisture in the air. I could not even sand the fender. The sand paper gummed up when I tried. |
Re: 1968
Hey, George. it's been a while since I have been on here. Sorry for your troubles. I will pray for you and your friends. Your truck is looking really good. Those crossmember holes are a booger to cut. I heard there was lots of rain down there today. I think I might be in your neck of the woods around Oct. 30th.

Today I did nothing except for nursing a tooth. Going to the Dentist in the morning. I have put it off long enough. So untill Friday guys keep up the good work.
|
Re: 1968
well. I went to the Dentist and he put me on some amoxicillin for 7 days. It looks like I will have it removied then. So guys it might be a hit and miss with me for another week. But as long as I am not in too much pain I will do what I can on the old girl. It looks like I will not be entering patches in the Christmas parade this year. There is just too much work to be done on her. There is always another year and a another parade.
Thanks Brian for calling me today. Sorry I missed your call I was still at the Dentist. |

Re: 1968
George, it's taken me two days on and off of reading to get all the way through your build thread, and what a trip it has been! You've really done some amazing work, and I have really enjoyed all the pictures and details you've posted along the way. Keep up the good work!
I have a love/hate relationship with sandblasting myself. I love the results, hate doing it, and it sounds like from what I've read that you've nearly sandblasted two whole trucks on and off over the duration of the build, you have my respect! |

Re: 1968
Today I finished the drivers side rear fender. Shot some white primer on it also. Now it is stored in the mother-in-law cottage untill needed for the fine tuning next month. I finshed cutting the 4x4 hole in the cross member for the exhaust pipe to go thru. I think I will be putting a 4 inch pipe on the cut off spot. 4 inch round and 1 inch long. Brian gave me that idea and I like it. It looks like it will dress up the hole a little and add some support there also. I am thinking about buying a stand alone sand blaster. A small one so I can do small parts. Without getting the blaster and hoses out all the time and account the lost of sand everywhere.
A friend came over the other day to borrow something and gave me a 1972 4x4 running truck. Don't know right now what I am going to do with it. I might use it as a everyday runner and keep patches for week ends. Just a thought. http://i.imgur.com/b0CVCZ5l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/mLnAMW9l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/t63ltrol.jpg http://i.imgur.com/tJulKdOl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/7Oefi3sl.jpg Here are some small parts that I recieved today. I hope to start rebuilding the vent windows in the morning. |
Re: 1968
It's been a while since I've been on here, but, to no surprise, it looks like you're still plugging along at quite a quick pace on Patches, George. Sorry to hear about your friends. Strokes are scary things, and hopefully that works out OK. Death isn't quite as scary as long as you know where you're going, but is still rough on those left behind.
I've only read the last few pages, and it looks like there are quite a few more to catch up on, so I'll check back in when I get a little more time and catch up. |
Re: 1968
Where did you get that wiring diagram..:chevy: truck is looking good.
