What engine do you want ? .

L.A.'s chock full of good used engines of all types , SBC's are prolly the cheapest to find good used ones .

Get a big battery & compression tester and go find one .

O.K. then ;

Just remember to give me as much lead time advance notice as possible ~ I only come here when I get a notice and my Internet access is severely limited these days .

I always enjoy the gatherings of The Faithful , is it O.K. to bring the Hearse too ? .

I'm looking pretty free for Saturdays in February. Pick a time & date. There's got to be a great place for breakfast or lunch burritos near by.

Anyone going the the Grand National Roadster Show next weekend??

You interested in a v8 283/th350? Back in November I was told from another member on a different site he had it in his 67 chevy but was goin with something else. He said make a trade offer but I passed cause i already had my 250/th350. He may take a trade if he still has it. Let me know I will try to get a hold of him. I think he is in the I.E.

Re : Drivtrain Choices

RE : the 350 SBC & Turbo-Hydro 350 trans is a hard combination to beat because it is cheap & plentiful and as long as you do a compression test , before purchase to insure to bad cylinders , you can tinker it a little bit then plop it right in and begin driving & having fun , if you're smart you can do many basic mods as you go along and vastly increase the driveability as well as fuel economy , using inexpen$ive locally sourced parts....

For starters , always re seal any used engine 7 slushbox tranny *before* you install it and in the case of V-8's , always , ALWAYS replace the cam chain and gears as this affects the cam timing , very few after a few years of use are anywhere near spec. and nothing else you do will make it right with the dang cam 2 degrees retarded from a floppy old cam chain.....

You were going to replace the water pump and timing cover seal anyway , right ? .

Later on you can add big valve heads from a junked later model car cheaply , etc. etc........

If you want to make it all chromed out , that's easy & cheap to do later as you're driving and enjoying the rig .

Yeah , yeah , I AM a InLiner guy but being a Jouneyman Mechanic , it's most important to me to have a good runner and making a tire burning beast On The Cheap is dead simple .

WELCOME JOHNNY ! you'll find this to be a fun , helpful group .

Being in El Monte you're right in the thick of cheap used parts , lots of good Self Service Junkyards all around you .

DO make one of the meet & greets ! they're terrific , some guys will show up with under construction rigs , others with amazing show rigs , some with tatty old beaters that still earn their living as Work Rigs (ahem) .

The really cool part is the sharing of knowledge , there's always a cool new thing to learn and they're helpful to look at your rig and offer suggestions if you ask .

Wait ~ more detail please ~

You were driving along with the oil pressure light leering redly at you or the gauge on zero then a connecting rod began to bang loudly before it broke ? .

These oil pumps rarely fail , depending on the details of what happened will help greatly .

FWIW , Melling's current Q.C. leaves much to be desired , I've seen many right out of the new box that were worse than the old pump .

It's a very rare thing for me to need a new oil pump .

It's raining again so I guess I'll have to drive my truck in it to - day , rust holes and all ~ I dislike the water dripping onto my feet .

Re: SoCal checkin' in

Driving to work started to smell something (kinda burning oil) smell. Looked at my oil gauge and it was at zero. Very loud clanking and BOOM!! This all happened in a few seconds . Had enough time to get over to the shoulder and put it in nuetral and coast off the fwy. Then push it 2 blocks to get it off the major street I was on. So I assume it's my pump ,don't know what else could be the blame. It was a cl motor I picked up cheap so I knew it was a gamble to start with
