Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

After working on my daughters and sons cars I got out to the garage. All I was going to do is find my center windshield moulding that had the metal it attaches to so I could weld it in the coming days. Then the poopoo hit the fan when I couldn't find it. Through the shed, the cupboard full of boxes of parts, all labeled by the way. Was very disappointed and giving up. My memory isn't so good anymore and it's kinda scary, I mean I KNOW I had this moulding with the screws going through the inner moulding and the metal support. I KNOW I had it, but then started second guessing that, geeez.
I went back to the boxes I had already checked and WHAM, there they were, geeez. Not only was this thing I was looking for but a bunch of others that I forgot I had, again, that memory is kinda scary being I just boxed these up a few months ago. :( Anyway, I removed the little pieces of the old one on the top that I had simply cut away and was able to slip the "new" on right in there. It's ready to weld in tomorrow. It's so funny how when I chopped this truck the first time I simply cut the pieces and welded them together. Butt welded it right in the middle. Now after working in the collision industry I simply drilled the welds out and put the piece in just like the factory did. So funny how different it is this time. Brian |

Nice job on the belt mounting. Looks nice and clean.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
hey Brian, the nice thing about memory loss, you don't remember doing something wrong, haha. it's somebody else's fault and you totally feel like a hero when you fix their screw up.
same problem in my shop. I KNOW I kept a certain part but can't find it. usually turns out that I moved it out of my way while looking for it. duh! sometimes you put things away so well YOU can't even find them. |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
yep, well, at least you didn't post them on ebay and then bid on them. lol.
everybody has a bad memory day. that's why they put my name on my uniform at work, haha. best case scenario is finish the truck and use up all the stuff with no left overs. seems like forever til that will happen, for me anyway. I need to start your 5 minutes a day plan. my truck parts are 2-57 donors melded together and another newer truck as a frame and interior donor. I even have parts in my daughter's garage. my shop attic, outside......you name it. yours is getting close, don't give up now man! shoot some primer and carry on. |

I got the center "pillar" welded in and shortened the inside piece and welded and finished it ready for chrome.
I thought I was done welding, before this I thought I was done welding on the cab. Ok, this is done, I come in thinking that's it! And then it hits me, I need to weld the radio hole up on the dash. Ok, I'm almost done. I also need the small extensions on the inside moulding that go above and below it if any of you have a pair you don't need. :metal: Brian |

Rattle-canned my inner fenders today. Nothing to do while waiting for paint to dry, so I installed the side hood emblems too.

I am heading off right now for a full forth of July day, parade, fireworks the whole bit. So I HAD to get out there for my five minutes this morning. Got my radio hole angled edge removed, cleaned up back and front and a patch made. Though that patch still needs some fine tuning to get it butted in there but didn't want to be grinding out there being the neighbors have already started their 4th festivities out back. Anyway, off to the celebrations! And I will be celebrating another step on the truck on it's way.

I started out simply replacing a damaged exhaust manifold and then got carried away painting, detailing, and at times replacing everything I could reach. I now have extra parts that I can't recall where I removed them from. I need help identifying a single wire that was covered in original loom and routed through clips on the top side of the left valve cover in addition to two other clips with bolt holes that I can't remember where to place. The small green wire was not connected to anything at the front of the engine compartment.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I am not kidding when I get this cab in primer I am going to have a friggin party! OMG the work, I was telling my wife the rest of the truck will be like eating an ice cream cone compared to the work I have done on the cab. Tonight I started cleaning up the rust on the inside of the top of the cowl and the back of the dash. WOW, OMG  this sucks!
But I will get it done over the next few days and get it in primer. I am not kidding you, I am going to have a friggin party! Brian |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
OH MY GOD I can't wait until the inside of this cab is in primer! I worked on the neighbors fence again, then got out to my garage for five minutes and couldn't stop. I ended up wire wheeling the firewall and floor and getting the back of the dash and under the cowl just about as good as I can until sand blasting. MG this is hard work.
I have some other stuff (my daughters car's brakes, My Ramblers lower control arm bushings) I have to get done too so I am not sure but I hope I can get that cab out and sand blast in there finishing it. Brian |

that's the truth brian! the Reason I bought this truck was for the front bumper brackets and I didn't take my large sockets to get them of.

After my brother scared the crap out of me yesterday telling my the center windshield "post" was crooked I made a pattern to see what I had to do and found that it was crazy straight, probably straighter than Chevy did when it was new, geeez.
The problem was he was using the center cab brace on the back of the cab which wasn't straight! Brian |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
after sitting in front of the tv for an hour or so I got restless and went out to the garage. after two trips to orileys I got the correct size alternator belt. I still haven't made the spacer for the alternator. I wanted to fit everything. I got both the a/c and alternator belts on and have one small area that will need attention. my bottom water pump bolt is going to touch the belt. im going to have to replace it with something smaller. maybe a button head. I also noticed the compressor belt isn't running true. it needs to move 1/8 either direction. I don't know how I didn't notice it wasnt tracking straight. I will cut the spacers down 1/8 and slide it back into a perfect spot. then I can make the final spacer for the alternator and be done with this section of the a/c install.
