Nice! For the most part, they're actually really good fuel pumps... just a total PIA to replace. I've seen on the 3rd and 4th gen camaro/birds they're so difficult to remove the tank people cut holes in the floor and add a panel back over it.

I thought about an access hole. But I decided that I had a better idea....

So technically it's not "on" the truck.
I assembled a new bed cover from Craftec for my stepside. The frame went together quite easily. Getting the cover on the frame was a whole different ballgame. I had to enlist the help of my wife and a bunch of four letter words. I will say it is on there quite taught.
I am hoping to take the truck to the Finger Lakes in a couple weeks. It's about a 4.5 hour drive. I've done 3 hour trips with it but this would be the longest trip. I need to get a spare tire jack etc..My wife is a little nervous about taking a 37 year old truck that far.

I woke up. That's good enough for me. My work is done.

I think it's nap time. Yup. It is. :)

That's so funny. I was fighting bedbolts yesterday to do that very thing. I managed to get 235,000 miles out of my pump, but it doesn't see high temperatures very often. I did a little checking and I'm going back with an AC Delco EP377 to get a little more fuel pressure. I had never given it much thought, but I have read that it's not great to run the pumps below a quarter of a tank due to heat. I'm also going to try to keep it topped up when it's in the high 80s or the 90s here. I forgot that the pumps are in the tank to cool them, not just make them quieter. And if the pump is getting hot, then it's heating the fuel too, which probably doesn't help performance. The OBS trucks supposedly benefit from having a little bit more pressure. We will soon see. Did you guys go back in stock with the EP386 or an aftermarket replacement? Ol Blue, sounds like yours is running well now.

I agree, I try to fill up between 1/2 and 1/4 tank. I changed this pump 45,000 miles ago. But, it was wrong from the get go. The gauge worked sometimes but mostly not. The part store gave me a new pump on warranty the next day. They told me the called it bad and destroyed because it had gas in it. I waited until it was crapping out before I changed it. I can't believe how bad it was from the start. The truck runs better than it has in a while. I'm a happy boy!

Good to hear. My bed bolts are going back in with some anti-seize for next time I have to remove the bed, that was a chore. Hope to lift the bed off today and change out the pump. Did you use straps or wood framing to lift your bed? I think I'm going to build an H out of wood and put a chain to the middle of it.

I used tie down straps hook in the holes on the side of stake pockets. Made an X hooked on and it picked right up.

That’s exactly how I’ve done it on my 98 and my 72 both. Works pretty good if you’re working alone.

I bought my wife a used Yukon Denali today. Going to Phoenix to pick it up Monday. Was hoping to wait a little while for all the used car madness to calm down but her Grand Cherokee started giving us problems last week and left her stranded for an hour or so. At 215K I decided we have gotten our money’s worth and it was time for something newer. ( I paid $500 for it back in 2011 or so with 112K on it) been an excellent vehicle for almost all of our marriage. Time to move on though. The new to us Yukon is really nice. I was afraid I may have to let go of my Camaro but we were able to keep it and reasonably do both. The Camaro is really close to being paid off, and my baby alongside my K20.

All I can say is used car shopping sucks a million times more than normal these days. As soon as they are listed for sale they seem to be gone. I bought this one before it had even been detailed as it was traded in Thursday, I got the financing figured out yesterday and made the down payment over the phone today. In that time the Salesman I’ve been working with said that 6 people have tried to buy it since yesterday afternoon. Pictures to come when I pick it up Monday.

Decided to clean up and reorganize the garage. Mustang should hopefully be gone in a week or two, then my GMC will be in its place.

I think she will really like the Yukon. We down sized from a 'burban to a Yukon since it's just the two of us and have no regrets.

I am doing a lot of looking with nothing in particular in mind. What's available is high right now. I once found a Blazer on a friday night at the Chevy dealer. First thing the next morning I was down there making a deal on it. Hadn't even been cleaned up yet. We nearly came to blows over it when the owner's son in law tried to nix the deal cause he wanted one of his friends to buy it. Well, the owner did the right thing and honored my deal. It wasn't a matter of not being able to find another Blazer at the time. It was more of the principal of it is all.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

car shopping doesn’t normally stress me out much. It’s actually kind of fun to bring a new one home for me. This time it was stressful; just because I’d see something I was interested in only to find out it was already gone. The sales manager at the Ford dealer selling the Denali has been working with me directly on getting it purchased. She told me right now that 4-6 days on the lot is average for each used car they bring in. She said last month they set the all time record for monthly sales for that Ford dealer. Crazy stuff.

I was after a suburban or Yukon xl as I’ve got two little kids and one on the way with one more planned in the future. For now I’ve really been getting less and less enthused at the money it takes to get into a decent suburban. 40K will barley get you in door of something semi nice right now. I think We’ll drive this one around for a few years and then look back into suburbans at that time. I was able to get into this Denali in the mid 20’s which is still pricey for how old it is(2011 with 67,000 miles) but it’s in excellent condition inside and out, so I think we’ll be ok on it. I foresee a lot of people being WAY WAY upside on there loans in the coming years because of the inflated prices right now.

I took my wife to breakfast. Then we went to a furniture store and bought two recliners for our 41st anniversary . Picked up dinner ,went home and rearranged the living room to make room for delivery next weekend.

Was going to work on priming my bed sides but my best buddy from college wanted some help Saturday modifying his yard spray rig. He had an idea of an adjustable height boom and after coming up with a couple other ideas this is what we ended up with. Simple flat stock drilled to fit, slotted, and bent the bottom ends back toward the tank and covered with a piece of split hose. Piece of 1/2" conduit, clamps, and now all he has to do is replumb and add his new nozzles. Great to hang out with an old buddy, drink a few beers, and work on something different.

Dug 6 of 8 post holes for the fence around the garden before the sun came round. Actually I dug 6 wells they filled with water as I was digging this is why I picked this spot its always damp. I probably should have pounded in metal posts . I may for the last two as they are down slope from these.

I went to a car show in the morning. Spent about 2.5 hours until the heat became too much and people started to leave.
I went home for lunch while the wife was floating in the pool I had the first 2 hot dogs of the year.
Getting ready to celebrate my Dad's 80th birthday on Tuesday.

Did you go to the Pawling street show? I was going to but 93 degrees on blacktop isn’t my idea of fun

It was the Woodbury Ct. Lions Club annual show. It was on grass and there was a beautiful breeze but it was still pretty brutal. There was a pretty decent turnout.
Pawling is only about 35-40 minutes from me.

Busted a few nice Arkansas crappie; these are the two biggest ones. Ended up with 16 today…..enough for supper and a few fillets to give to an elderly couple I know.

I went to the market. I know the girl there and she's kind of a flirt. Fine with me.

I had the yellow Corvette parked out front. She looked at it and giggled.

I asked her " Why are you laughing?

She told me that when I had come in a couple of days earlier a woman was at the counter and asked "Did that homeless guy just get out of that car?

Really??? Homeless guy??? I know that I didn't get all prettied up to go to the market...But homeless??? I'm wearing a Rolex and driving a Corvette. WTF?

But it gave the girl behind the counter a good laugh. And I like her. Good enough for me.

When I got home I looked in the mirror and thought. That woman may have had a point. I was looking pretty shabby. A little rough around the edges.

What the heck. We all got a good laugh out of it.

.

Successfully swapped out a dying hard drive with a new solid state drive on my daily driver laptop.

Purchased a Samsung EVO 512GB 2 1/2 inch internal drive ( SSD ). Placed it into my CD/ROM media unit caddie for SATA drives and booted up my machine. Now with the new drive connected, I use native windows 10 tools to write partition info on it with a 300GB partition ( same size as the dying drive's partition ) and format it NTFS.

Downloaded Clonezilla Live zip file, extracted to a USB thumb drive and then made that bootable using /utils/win64/makeboot64 on the USB drive.

Shutdown and booted the Clonezilla software from the USB drive by editing the BIOS to boot from the USB stick first and the HDD second. The software is GUI driven. I used disk-to-disk cloning and successfully recovered ( -recovery ) the Operating System environment as well as all my installed programs/data and my personal files. Basically made an exact replica of my old HDD onto my new SSD.

Fun fun... This process took about an hour from start to finish. It was writing at 7GB/minute onto the new SSD.

Installed the new SSD into the laptop's HDD bay ( internal ) and booted. Now I'm typing out this message to you all. :) ...On a MUCH faster machine.

Everything in front of the Y is factory exhaust. So if my memory serves correctly 2 cats. The Y is a Flow Master as is the muffler. The tailpipes were custom made a the exhaust shop I use in Benicia.
