Just my opinion, but I would look at a 700R4. I think you would be happier with the automatic instead of a stock 4 speed. I have the four speed in my 72 4x4 and wish I had a five speed. If you do a search on tranny swaps, it should give you some varied opinions. I've never had a 3 on the tree.

Definitely need a 4 speed in it...

Dude! You're brave driving a 38 year old truck for 32 hrs. that soon after buying it. Glad you had no problems! Keep on Truckin!

AirborneC10, what advantage do you want with the 4 spd? If it's for better highway driving, it won't help. High gear is still 1:1 The only advantage is closer ratio shifting. If that's what you still want though, any Muncie, T10, or plain old Saginaw four speed should install fairly easy with little to no modification.

I know I put mine up before but today is a very special day for me. :metal:
After the second try I finally passed the German inspection. :cf::hot::ele:
I could have got it done the first time but I had a mobile inspector check it out and he thought it was too loud.
He didnīt have the right stuff with him so today I had to drive her to one of the stations where they check the noise.
It was quiet enough and he sent me on my way.
I think he just wanted to drive my truck.....and make 96 Euros for 10 minutes work.
I also got to personalize my plates, FÜ means the city where I got it registered (Fuerth). NW for the great Northwest where I found her. You all know what the 68 stands for and the H means Historic.

You make me sick on sooo many levels! I love Bavaria, I'v been there a number of times because I work for BMW. Yellow and white is my absoulute favorite color combo (mine is blue ). Last but not least, your truck is waaay nicer than mine!:whine:
BTW, how do you get that thing down those narrow a$$ streets?

You mean, like this? If you do, be careful and put them in BEFORE adding a new bench seat if doing so, (like I did in my infinite wisdom) or you'll be smacking your head on them!:dohh:

Thanks! I love Bavaria too but the rules suck!
Glad to hear that you like yellow and white, if I ever get it painted itīs going to be the same colors.
How do I get it down those streets? Grease up the sides of the truck, take the mirrors off, blow the horn 3 times, shut your eyes and hit the gas.
Just kidding, I havenīt been down a street yet where it wouldnīt fit.
I am planning on getting some pictures in front of the castle here in town but I have to get permission from the Town Hall first.
This is going to be my biggest problem but I think she will fit:

This thread is awesome, great way to see all the different ways to build these great trucks!

Question for HoupPhotography, what is your suspension set-up? I notice you have front drums and have read you have bags. Any more information on how you got as low as you are? Could be wheels etc but just curious as it looks great.
