Re: my 80 build
Several Month's ago when I got the 6 liter running some it run some what, then next it would try to start but wouldn't stay running, so went all through the harness and found a wire for and injector and coil pulled out of the pin so I looked and looked to see what was going on so today I said to myself I got get this thing running so hooked a scanner no cods and was getting voltage to all the right places, so I ordered I black bear computer hooked it up crank no start so I put the other computer back in, several people ask have you checked fuel pressure, it sounded like you weren't getting enough fuel, I said its the tune, so I checked the fuel pressure it was about about 8 psi, I thought whats going on so I disconnected the fuel filter no fuel the lines were dry as a bone, so I poured in some gas turned the key with the lines disconnected sprayed fuel every were so hooked the lines back up and fired wright up

Re: my 80 build
Man, those open headers sound bad! Too bad we can't run 'em like that everyday!
A question for you Aaron. Since I havent bought motor mounts for mine yet, what made you decide on the Dirty Dingo's and what do you think of them? Also, what made you choose to run headers for the 64-72 Chevelle's over those off some other model with a LSx conversion? Obviously your way ahead of the curve on this stuff. |
Re: my 80 build
Oh, one more thought. On the Captfab rear disc brake brackets that you'll be using and Wilwood D-52 calipers, what are you going to do about an emergency brake, assuming that you are going to have one? I don't know what the specs are concerning an E brake for Texas inspections?

Re: my 80 build
it sounds real sweet with open headers I would like to electric cut outs but I would be opening them every chance I get which wouldn't do to well with the sound police, I went with the dirty ding mounts because of the adjust-ability of being move the forward and back up to 2" from the stock locations, on the headers I just assumed they would fit and they did and they were also long tubes I just had to trim off a ear of the trans there was still plenty of meat left on the rear wilwoods I'm going to try to go with out parking brakes If I can't get around the law I will do on that runs off the pinon on the rear axle
|
Re: my 80 build
Its looks like I going to have to run 1/4" spacers all the way around to clear the wilwoods with my current wheels but I'm liking the idea of going to 17" tt2 or eagle 211 but I have I feeling if I went with 20s the first drive out I'll hit a curb or pot hole destroying a $400 plus I'll feel better just destroying a $200 wheel

Re: my 80 build
Thanks Aaron. I knew about the Dirty Dingo’s having that adjustability, I just didn’t know how functionally useful it would be in our squarebodies? I guess I’ll go with the early Chevelle conversion headers as well then. I hope I don’t have a problem since I’ll be using a 6L80 trans. I don’t know how much wider those are. I’ve hunted around for a pinion mounted parking brake that will fit our trucks, but haven’t resulted in much success. You might check out these folks though as I might just be missing something: http://www.tsmmfg.com/Pinion_Mounted_Parking_Brakes.htm
They also do a rear disc conversion, but it seems way pricey. I’d rather go the CaptFab route even if you have you use larger that stock wheels. I’m hoping to go with 17” on mine. |

Re: my 80 build
I was able to get the 12 bolt torn apart and plan on getting it powered coated, I decided I'm going to stick with 15s probably 15x6 in the front and 15x10s in the back
|
Re: my 80 build
Staying with 15s isn't all bad. Check around at swap meets, auto salvage yards and Craigslist used auto parts for Dallas/Fort Worth for used wheels. Since You've got a common bolt pattern, you might run across a set that could be cleaned up or painted. Yesterday at a car show, there was an early '80s squarebody that had black painted or powdercoated wheels that looked pretty darn good!

Re: my 80 build
Hey Aaron, anything new going on?

Re: my 80 build
man ur still building this thing

Re: my 80 build
I got very little done I installed brand new factory leaf spring shackles in the rear, got one side done in less than thirty minutes the other side took about two hours, some how the bolt froze up in the bushing sleeve a high output 1/2" air gun wouldn't even budge, a long brake over bar would just twist the back side of the frame so I cut the bolt off, I also been looking at differential parts but I decided to go with a eaton posi and I stripped down the housing that I will get powder coated

Re: my 80 build
few parts for the truck

Re: my 80 build
I decided to go with braided brake hose, the kit covers the front brake lines to the calipers, and the rear brake line to the rear end, now I need to find to brake line to the rear calipers

Re: my 80 build
I picked up 2 6.5 rallies at the salvage yard for $40 so I'm going to run 6.5 in the front and 8" in the back for, this week I'm going sand and paint these wheels purple and take the tires from my cragars and put them on the rallies http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...0/Zi6_9840.jpg
