Update:
Hey Guys I had to switch gears a bit (need parts to finish up my radiator splash pan) so I will be moving on to my gas filler idea. The plan is to install it into the stake pocket. Pic 1. Here is after I made my cuts into the inside of the bed. I mocked up the filler as well. So I cutout all of the rear panel (tube will run through here) I'll be using 1 3/4 o.d tube and will all be welded and have 1 rubber connection between the tube and tank. Pic 2. Close up of filler (popup style) Pic 3. Here I was figuring out the angle for the 1st tube. Pic 4. the 1st tube welded up, this will then be welded to the next extension. I forgot to mention, This will All be removable Mark |

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Really nice Mark!
I did see a few, but in the stakepockets of a ‘58-‘59 Fleetside. On pics that is, not here in the Netherlands.... This is a different approach! |

Kees, It's was harder/and more work than I thought it would be. But in the end it will pay off I think.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
That is an amazing idea! It should really make some people take a second look when you are at the gas pump. :metal:

Pic 1. This is the tube I'll start with 1 3/4" o.d from speedway $14.
Pic 2. The 90 is welded in. Pic 3. Now the U bend can be cut off and clocked to make the next turn.I also was mocking up the placement of the neck going into the tank. Pic 4. This is the rubber tube (fuel safe) from filler neck supply (lots of great stuff) Pic 5. So after drilling, vacuum, welding etc. here is the hookup to the tank. Mark |
Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Very custom and also cool! Nice plan.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Looks great! Any plans for a vent line? With the two extreme curves, it might have burping issues.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Great idea and nice execution!

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Looks good Mark!
I made my vent line just besides the fillertube. Maybe this is an idea if you have the space. |
Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Can you put a smaller 3/8" or 1/2" line above the fill hole, then snake a rubber hose along the top/upper side of your 1 3/4" fill line?
Just terminate it in the top of the fill line below the bed rail level with a 90? |
Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Unfortunately I dont have that kind of room, The 1 3/4 tube just fits.
|
Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Maybe filling a bit slower would be a solution if need be. And just a thought, could you put a small tube inside the fill tube and have it fastened/welded near the edge of the filler opening? Like the fill spouts on a 5 gal gas jug.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
That might be an Idea!

Pic 1. I ended up redoing the entire back section.
It was all rotted on the topside,so I made the passenger side solid(or welded in) and the Drivers side is a cover that can be removed. Pic 2. There is 3 bolts holding it in place, 1 on top 2 on the sides. Pic 3. I made a filler/cover panel and this was filed and refit several times. Pic 4. Here I put a small piece in to help locate the filler panel. Mark |
