Re: My Facetruck thread.
I'll just leave this here as a thought question.
How many couples do you know where either the husband or the wife, when it came time to give each other a bite of wedding cake, jammed it into their new spouse's face, and how long did that marriage last? I was amazed at how many people came up to my wife and me after we fed each other the cake like civilized human beings and were surprised that we hadn't done any cake smearing! We were married in February of '81. That's 37 years. Maybe I should have used more cake. [ow, ow, ow, I was just kidding, honest, honey!] |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
Mrs. Bee and I got married in the courthouse for $75.. went home, changed into work clothes and hauled all the junk out of the house we were buying.. seller had been renting it to some deadbeat packrats and VA appraiser was scheduled for that weekend.. one of our wedding presents was a construction dump trailer load hauled out.. still on our wedding day, had late lunch at 7-11, hot dogs and chips and set off to yosemite for mini honeymoon.. got up there late and got lost in the dark, set us back about three hours.. finally made it to our room on the river with fireplace, hot tub, etc.. got the call from the appraiser half way up some goat trail to a waterfall.. house made value we needed :)
I did buy her a $10k custom platinum diamond ring that is absolutely stunning.. friends of ours are members of newport yaught club hooked us up with their jeweler.. he made a one off tiffany style ring that's probably worth double that in a retail store.. we didn't have a fancy wedding, but she carries a few mortgage payments around on her finger, actually in the safe most of the time.. I'm very fortunate to found an extremely practical woman, even our recent projects on the house are intended to maximize the property value when we sell while making us comfortable while we're in it.. we have modest savings and investments but zero debt other than a comfortable mortgage.. and she's working on a solid retirement while I'm working on my second ;) |

Re: My Facetruck thread.
I would have come over to help! I took care of an elderly woman's farm needs, as far as structures go, after her husband had passed. Those varmints had probably started setting up shop once he got older and his physical issues had set in. The guy minding the grounds was a city boy so everything was a first time experience. He was constantly running the tractor into their burrows. They were everywhere, and everything that could be burrowed under was. He was making such a half hearted attempt to deal with them. If he got one in the trap you'd think he got them all. I'd tell him set that thing right back out there. They are multiplying faster than you are taking them out. Finally, I started trapping them and lost count at 15, no more than 20. Very little activity around there
Ever since my cat died I have been trapping squirrels and chipmunks. Rabbits haven't been a nuisance, though have munched some flowers. And I had to trap a young groundhog who was setting up shop. I need another cat! |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
oh my folks shout and shoot at critters in the garden, and we get a fair amount of them.. two giant walnut trees in the front yard as well a few of its descendants nearby keep the squirrels hauling their nuts all over the place.. deer standing on the front porch eating mom's flowers.. everybody and their furry cousins in the gardens.. but never have I seen something so destructive to the buildings, it's almost unbelievable how destructive they are..
forgot to mention that, neighbor has trapped several.. but that's a daunting task, probably 5-10 underground or out feeding for every one you see.. without pets around, poison was my first thought but not sure what mom has already tried, she's well versed on other types of critter poisons so figured that had already been tried.. and agree totally with a good country raised cat, excellent hunters! |

My first dump truck had a 366 with a 4 speed and 2 speed rear. It was a square body. We hauled thousands of yards of dirt with that thing. I traded it for a 71 Cheyenne super a few years ago and the guy is still running the wheels off of it. In about 1969 a guy down the street from us bought a new 70 series, black with what seemed like chrome everywhere. I still remember those big 427 emblems in the hood. I was in awe of that truck. |

Same with vehicles. I bought whatever needed repair, fixed it and she drove it. She drove everything from a Grand Am builder to a Mercedes but they didn't have a payment. Now she drives whatever she asks for. Warning, a story is coming. We bought her a new Tahoe a while back. The dealer said they would finish the paperwork and I could bring a check by later in the week. We got home and I said "Now all we have to do is figure out how we are going to pay for it." She replied, "What do you mean WE?". |

Re: My Facetruck thread.
An old man, a boy and a donkey were going to town. The boy
rode on the donkey and the old man walked. As they went along they passed some people who remarked it was a shame the old man was walking and the boy was riding. The man and boy thought maybe the critics were right, so they changed positions. Later, they passed some people that remarked, "What a shame, he makes that little boy walk." They then decided they both would walk. Soon they passed some more people who thought they were stupid to walk When they had a decent donkey to ride. So, they both rode the donkey. Now they passed some people that shamed them by saying how awful to put such a load on a poor donkey. The boy and man said they were probably right, so they decided to carry the donkey. As they crossed the bridge, they lost their grip on the animal and he fell into the river and drowned. The moral of the story? If you try to please everyone, you might as well kiss your ass good-bye. |

Re: My Facetruck thread.
The FBI had an opening for an assassin.
After all the background checks, interviews and testing were done, there were 3 finalists; Two men and a woman. For the final test, the FBI agents took one of the men to a large metal door and handed him a gun. 'We must know that you will follow your instructions no matter what the circumstances. Inside the room you will find your wife sitting In a chair .. . . Kill her!!' The man said, 'You can't be serious. I could never shoot my wife.' The agent said, 'Then you're not the right man for this job. Take your wife and go home.' The second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun and went into the room. All was quiet for about 5 minutes. The man came out with tears in his eyes, 'I tried, but I can't kill my wife.' The agent said, 'You don't have what it takes. Take your wife and go home.' Finally, it was the woman's turn. She was given the same instructions, to kill her husband. She took the gun and went into the room. Shots were heard, one after another. They heard screaming, crashing, banging on the walls. After a few minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there stood the woman, wiping the sweat from her brow. 'This gun is loaded with blanks' she said. "I had to beat him to death with the chair." |

Re: My Facetruck thread.
Thinking back a few years, living in Florida, I remember Hurricane Matthew.
I was ready for it but my wife was not. When the wind reached a screaming pitch with the trees snapping and threshing, the horizontal streaming rain, flying roofing iron and destroyed fences as well as the unnerving sound-levels, my wife was rooted to the spot. She stared and stared through the glass of the window. Immovable, with her nose pressed to the windowpane, the stark fear in her eyes will stay with me forever. Fortunately, as the eye of the storm arrived and the winds temporarily lessened, I was able to open the door and let her in. |

On my way up to Clinton, MO to pick up some pipe buggys this morning a Freightliner passed me that said Midwest Truck Sales, Lone Jack, MO. I didn't think about how close I was to Killer Bees stomping grounds until then.

Re: My Facetruck thread.
A man noticed a most unusual funeral procession approaching the nearby cemetery.
A black hearse was followed by a second black hearse. Behind the second hearse was a solitary man walking a dog on a leash. Behind him, a short distance back, were about 200 men walking single file. The man respectfully approached the man walking the dog and said: "I am so sorry for your loss, and this may be a bad time to disturb you, but I've never seen a funeral like this. Whose funeral is it?" "My wife's." ''What happened to her?" "She yelled at me and my dog attacked and killed her." He inquired further, "But who is in the second hearse?" "My mother-in-law. She was trying to help my wife when the dog turned on her." "Can I borrow the dog?" "Get in line." |

there's a Midland truck on 50 hwy n F hwy across street from what used to be max's market.. not sure names of either now.. buddy and I took two giant crappie to max's when we were kids, matt won biggest for month and year and we got some free tackle for prizes.. grandma lived in clinton after grandpa passed.. they lived in lowery city in a house he built.. lived in the shed during construction.. when I was a youngin grandpa took me fishing all over truman, sparrowfoot was one of our closest favorites.. lowery city was nothing but a blink on 13 hwy.. but grandpa had a nice orchard and garden.. osceola cheese factory was a favorite stop when we'd go fishing further south.. second cousin I think he is, lives in deepwater.. uncle ran trot lines back in the trees swallowed up by the reservoir.. I ran the lines with him a few times, still remember pulling some doggone gar in the boat just because my uncle was too cheap to cut his gear LoL some of them doggone things were right scary, in the boat anyways.. 'now don't let loose of him, don't let go' he'd tell me.. it's a wonder we never got bit.. you probably came up on 13 across truman.. years ago, grandma and a church friend in her olds 98 traveling south to lowery city from clinton across one of those lake overpasses.. she got her tires over the edge of the asphalt on the shoulder and over corrected.. she shot into oncoming traffic and took the duals out from under the back of a set of doubles going the other way! of course the car was totaled, 13 was closed for hours, and grandma barely had a bruise on her, her friend only slightly worse with a few cuts and a broken arm or something minor.. she was a prayin' woman and no doubt wasn't her time that day! |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
13 is a much better highway than it was in the fifties when we lived in Blue Springs.
It's divided highway all the way from here to there now. |
Re: My Facetruck thread.
clear up through the 80s when I left for military, blue springs was the nearest traffic signal

Re: My Facetruck thread.
I think anything with lungs can. Whirlygigs chase off moles, so maybe some bigger ground vibrations would run the hawgs off. I'll leave that to your imagination.
Here's one I herd the other day: A young man walks into the job center in downtown Los Angeles and sees a card advertising for a gynecolo........... uh, maybe not here. Clean as it may be, I probably said too much already. I'll leave telling to someone else if they feel it's proper for here, LD |

I ran up to Ottawa, KS to Ole Marias River Run this weekend. Drove right past the Oceola Cheese Company. Our trucks were well represented. I took a few pics. They are not the greatest work I ever did, because the sun was high and the shade was sketchy.

Looks like a nice show. I'll take the last three.
I keep reading your signature and thinking I must be diplomatic. A friend once told me another guy we both knew when we were young said this about me, "That Tim is the only person I know who can call you an a-hole in a way that leaves you wondering, did he just call me an a-hole?" I don't know if anyone noticed I reversed my signature back in spring. I'm ready to turn it back around again so it makes a little sense maybe |
