Re: PO has me PO'd
A little more on the thread highjack. For us, October was one of the coldest and wettest on record and we all thought, Oh no, this is going to be a rough winter.
Then November rolled in and it was actually warmer than October. One of the warmest on record, so now we think, huh, go figure. December seems normal, at least for now. I have to move some more parts out of my garage though so the wife can park inside. She doesn't like scraping the windows. She has been very patient so far. And just to segway back to the build...I really like the detail going into this build. I tend to cut corners, but can't seem to break the habit. I don't see any of that here and I admire it. |
Re: PO has me PO'd
I sure don't miss scraping windows.
Can't wait to see the finished product. |

Thanks HGS, nice to have someone pick up on that. It really slows my build down tho. I tend to over think every thing and put way to much planning into every part that I bolt on. It is a form of entertainment for me, sorta like a legal mistress:lol: Traded a guy in Cali (Jims Junk) for a set of 8 1/2" alum. slotted wheels, he took my 10's. So, with 10's on the back and 12" wide tires, it should just about even out the inset of the rearend. Afterall, most of the work will be done by the rear tires May have a lead on my coolant tubes |

Hey Jim, I was going through all these pics (I'm on page 11 now )
Still quite a ways to go. Where in the world did you find poly mounts for the transmission/transfer case??? I was thinking of changing mine when I do the engine swap, but had no idea those were out there. |
Re: PO has me PO'd

IIRC, I had to buy one of the mounts directly from the manufactor, Synergy. It was rather hard to obtain, but they may have gotten easier. That's one of the great things about this board someone WILL know. Are you talking the torque mounts on the side of the transfer case or the trans mount? |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Energy suspension has the TC side mounts. I just get the part number from their website and have my NAPA order them.

Has a little Bowtie in the rear lights |

Yep, I know how you feel, my wife drives a Malibu too.
I should see the Camaro when I get home from this underway. Ordered it while I was in Japan and I've been waiting for them to finish and ship it since I got home. Can't wait! |

Re: PO has me PO'd
Sorry, I was just sitting back and reading everyone else's progress(just enjoying the ride) forgot I was supposed to be building a truck. But, I ain't goin' to lie to ya, it was a nice break with the Holidays and Family
So, while I wasn't doin' anything, I was spending money! Picked up a Cruise, and finally found my seat tracks(drivers side) for the utility seats, now I can mount the seat up on the passenger side, and a Quadrajet carb...Oh yeah, I also bought a R/C Helicopter, pretty cool, I haven't hit the Christmas tree YET After 3 weeks of thought and moving and rearranging and more thought, I finally have a plan to mount up my winch/with stock bumper. It will have a cradle of sorts under the plate that will hold the winch(warn model 8000), plus be bolted to the forward crossmember, frame rails and front bumper at each side of the license plate bump out. Today I actually made a pattern for the cradle, so once my new bumper bolts get here I can put the bumper on and start the final mock up Pics to follow, before I get one of those blasted "this thread is worthless w/o pics" slogans |

Still have to make the bend for the bumper, sure wish steel bent like aluminum. Hole in crossmember makes for an ideal mounting point. Also planning to drill out a rivet in the leaf spring mount for the plate to bolt in...Sheesh, someday I have to paint the frame, that looks like crap http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip026.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip028.jpg still have to build the bracket to mount the tank to the battery box, but this location seems to be the best http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip029.jpg |

Re: PO has me PO'd
Kurt is right, as usual, you can fit a mounting plate for the winch and retain the stock bumper
Changed direction again! I think is the final fitment http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip036.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip037.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip038.jpg |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Looks like I will have to make a cut out on my plate, so the winch feet have metal to bolt to. Thank goodness for the license plate bump out
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip040.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip039.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip041.jpg |
Re: PO has me PO'd
what size is that lower plate? looks like it was made to go there... what about your lower pan for th 67-68 nose?
|
Re: PO has me PO'd
Scrap alum. I had laying around, still in the mock up. When it comes time to put the 1/4" plate in, I may have to cut the frame horns behind the bumper and slide it straight in from the front...dunno yet
I don't have the lower pan, but I may just cut it and use the outside pcs., I'm not using the center grille support either |
Re: PO has me PO'd
I only have one issue with mounting the winch behind the bumper, engaging it. Do you plan on just running it out with the remote when you use it or reaching under (or over if the hoods up) to get at it?? Other than that I really like the idea.

Although with the bottom mounting plate set up, it may change thing's enough to take that option off the check list. http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/u...9winchmove.jpg Quote:
http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/u...verypoints.jpg Permanently mounting the winch controll switch inside is the only way to go. http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/u...hPatchDone.jpg Thing to do is get the winch tossed in under there and find the best solution to those pesky question's. ;) (mock up - phase two) |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Yep, mock up phase 2
Thanks for taking the time to dig into the photo archives, you certainly give me more options, but more work! I now like the feet rear option, seems to open up the whole bottom of the winch, but I will stay with center support. Since I already made it and it can't hurt. Did you use 1 'L' bracket per side to frame rail/plate? Obviously, you setup worked, thanks for the info. Didn't know you could clock the freespool lever, guess I should have read the directions |
