I guess I can go in the middle and list it for $75 + shipping thanks for the reply.

Anybody in the area going to Super Chevy Saturday June 6 in Commerce GA?

Welded a few pinholes and ground smooth. It looks better and think it will be fine. Spent another half an hour on it tonight. Which brings the total labor up to 3.5 hrs

I hear ya brother, and thanks .

Got back from the Super Chevy Show. sdailey went with me and we had a blast. We got to meet Down South Truckin and Tim Christian there. We didn't get to spend much time with Down South, but hung out quit a bit with Tim off and on through out the day. He is really a stand up guy. He might not be the cheapest, but I think his customer service is outstanding. We stopped at Year One on the way there and saw the Bandit rendition. it was roped off so I couldn't get too close.

It's mounted on the frame rail under the floor like the 55's used to be. Cleans it up doesn't it?

Your right. :metal:

I found these headers at Super Chevy today for a good price. They are Headman 69648 fits 88-95 chevy trucks. I thought I would try them. They are very similar to the Flowtech 31505 FLT headers I was going to try. I could sell them and get my money back if the weren't close to fitting. The right side that I was concerned that wouldn't fit didn't have any issues to speak of. Once I put the gasket in it will rub the frame on one tube.

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00148.jpg

In able to make these studs work I needed to cut some more threads so I could put a nut for the headers. I also need to cut the flange off of the flange nut that is hitting the header. I also need to shorten the stud to ease installation.

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00149.jpg

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00151.jpg

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00152.jpg

The side I thought would fit has some issues. I don't know if I should grind about a 1/4" off of the frame around 3 of the tubes or not. I'm thinking of making them work. What do ya'll think?

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00154.jpg

The left header has an O2 sensor bung that is blocked off.

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00150.jpg

Here are some other things I picked up
1. Door inner/outer belt mouldings
2. Door wing window seals w/rivets and tool
3. Door glass run weatherstrip
4. Door wing window latches
5. Door O/S handles and lock cylinder not pictured
6. Jegs mini starter

I will be doing a how too on rebuilding the vent window assy once I figure it out.

I'd say grind away on the frame:smoke:

Those are some nice looking headers. I'd just clearance the frame a little.

Just curious, why don't you put a big block in your truck?

Oh believe me I wanted too. But, I had this 383 on the stand for 8-9 years so I couldn't justify not using it.

I'd make them work. They're good looking headers. It would be a shame to grind on your finished frame though. How about some nice small dents in the header pipes to make them clear? Would it be noticeable being that low?

My frame isn't finished yet. I'll take a crack at them if you don't use em'. What year block do you have?

Those are nice headers. I would trim the frame you can always touch it up. My headers have a lot of room.

I got the Lt side in by trimming the frame and collector. Read on

In hindsight I should have let you see what you could do, but I got in to deep and had to keep going.

I need to trim the RT side a little to keep it from rubbing.

Thanks Scott. I'm at one of those times when I wonder if it will ever be on the street again.

I have spent the last 2 nights grinding, installing, marking, removing repeat that about 20 times. I wanted to keep the grinding to a minimum. Thats why I took a little at a time.

I would not suggest anyone using these headers on their 63-66 trucks. I'm not very happy with the left side. I started by trimming the upper part of the rail. Then noticed the collector was hitting the lower part of the rail. I should have stopped there, but NO I didn't. I figured a little more, boy was I wrong. That's what I get for trying to save a buck. It usually cost more in the long run.

I know this is a duplicate pic, but I'm using it for comparision from LT to RT. If the pipes would have started to turn like the RT side the LT side would have fit great. Notice the distance from the head before the Lt tubes start to bend. There is about an inch difference. You can see the upper part of the rail to header clearance now on the LT side. That's the way it is now. I still need to remove one more time and touch up the rail and hopefully reinstall for the final time.

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00148.jpg

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00167.jpg

Here is the collector on the LT side. The RT side doesn't hit.

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00158.jpg

This is the notch I trimmed in the collector. As soon as I hit the flange of the tube I quit.

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/DSC00161.jpg

I'm taking the night off I need to rest.

Man that sucks you had a trim a lot off the frame. I wonder if it would have been easier to cut the headers at the flange and suck it in some!

It crossed my mind, but then I 'd have to get them recoated. I did think of dimpling the tubes like Dennis had mentioned, but the main issue was the collector. This was not one of my better decisions by using these. Live and learn. ;)

It looks a little close to the frame. Will it hit when the engine torques? Clean job though. Looks good.

Looks good. Any reason you went w/a mid length? I had the flow techs on my 98. Those look a little better crafted and maybe the coating wont come off like the holley's.

Love the detailed and clean assembly. Your my Hero.;)

Re: My 1965 build thread

Like Strodder said, have you taken into account the engine torque? It looks like the first time you hit hit the gas, the left side collector and right side header tubes are going to hit their respective frame rails. Remember, 383s like to twist on those motor mounts. ;)

198plus 06-10-2009 09:12 PM

Re: My 1965 build thread

Alan you'll have to use solid motor mounts.
