Easy as that. The road to hell is paved with good intentions......... And many a truck build. After yesterday's Horse Play today had a couple of good Bootfairs pencilled in, followed by some chores and then truck time. Well, neighbour Mickey came home with some old oak gate and fence posts to unload and get to the back storage (wood turning stock) Then I moved the bike, pulled the truck out and got it up on the jack so that I could start making the battery carrier for the relocated battery. I decided to try fit the standard battery in, unlike Ian Browns side terminal model, which is a better idea, but would mean buying a new battery. So I made a cardboard box dummy to be able to hold it up under the truck, without straining very muscle on a real one. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psrywoljyb.jpg At this point Mickey was back for another half hour chat....... Get the picture on progress? Just as he had left, Gene who was collecting the second engineers vice that I got this week, arrived. What a nice guy, he is an old school sign writer and maybe I will be able to get a couple of examples of his work to show some time. 4 hrs just flew by, after which I packed everything up and closed shop to see him off. This 5.7 Hemi sounded rather juicy with its Borla and twin exit pipes. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psrqlsk2qe.jpg That brought an enjoyable weekend to an end, despite the fact I did very little for the truck. |

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Bit quiet on the home front.
But got some Satin Black two pack on the way home tonight. It will be on the inner fenders, fire wall and all out of sight surfaces. My choice. So £45.00 for another bit of finishing. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psclln7zhz.jpg |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Rian, forgive me if I'm telling you something you know already but you'll need a suitable mask for that 2k

Thank you for posting up. I actually have a complete air fed respirator face mask that I bought for the paint and blasting. I trust it will do the job. The last car I painted with two pack, was done with no mask 24 years ago, not clever. |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
What, no pic of the spotlight handle...
time to get after it again mate...:mm: |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Got a text from Don earlier.
Thanks to Jonathan Hall who had given me a spotlight for the truck a few months ago on the "Paying is Forward" thread for digging around and finding the handle to the spotlight and posting to Don's place to add to the steadily growing pile of parts that need to come back to the UK. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pspcau0ccs.jpg One more thing to get closer to my dream truck with the add ons. |

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Mate Martin popped in on his way to his Bike Club meeting tonight to drop off this gift from Ian Brown,, it had me really laughing or at least chuckling out loud this week when he mentioned it would be in the post.
Thanks Ian !! http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfqs5lyey.jpg Today I felt really guilty at my lack of progress recently, I have been busy bit not doing much truck stuff. So tonight I gathered all the bits needed to make a relocated battery tray, to be fitted under the passenger seat. This will open up the engine bay a bit. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psr9atkfga.jpg Started to cut all the flat bar and angle iron needed and dug out some threaded bar needed for the hold down bracket. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psscdmiiqz.jpg Got this far with the welding when the trigger self destructed again, I really need to buy a replacement for my welder, just don't have any idea what to buy that will work on the welder. At least the first part of the new battery tray is now welded up. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pszwefqyqs.jpg Hope to find somewhere to buy a replacement trigger tomorrow. |
Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Awesome start on the Battery tray...:metal:

I use it as a record for what I get up to as well, and often just chuckle when I look back. Fetched my stick welder back from Mickey next door who has had it at least three months. I think he forgets. Cut, measured, cut some more and prepped a bunch of bits, then welded it all together up to a point. I decided to make my battery top clamp horizontal, rather than vertical. Also to run threaded bar with nuts both ends, and hopefully if I can get a metal sheath, I will cover the threaded bar over. On the way to work today I popped into a specialist nuts, screws etc shop and bought four domed head bolts to,fit the battery tray onto the chassis with, under the cab. Loads of photos can probably say it all. I wanted to try retain my top terminal battery, rather than buy the sexy side terminal model Ian had bought. Front view http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfpu1igsk.jpg Rear view http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps1y9g6sbb.jpg Diagonal side view. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pse1j5pg9j.jpg Without battery, which is a large size 70a/h model. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psgqcflres.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pslpgnqxoa.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfjs9vbrs.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...ps4w9orhwc.jpg Finished off by packing away everything and then painting the first coat of Hammerite. In redesigning Ian's design to a horizontal hold, I forgot about the upward motion induced by potholes. Diagonal side view. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pse1j5pg9j.jpg So I will be altering the angle of the threaded bar tonight to diagonal so it can hold down and inward to the chassis. |

My Mig welder so trigger has been on self destruct mode recently, which had me looking at alternatives, including upgrading to Euro Torch. Seems it can be done with my Clark machine, but before I got to that, Scottie from Scotland offered me an almost new torch from his last machine that self destructed for postage to try out on my machine. Thanks mate, the pouring rain here has stopped me fitting it here at this moment. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psftfem6jb.jpg Tonight Martin popped over for dinner so we could do some of our road trip planning, including me purchasing the extra baggage at £55.00 for an extra 23kg bag. He also brought me some large wing nuts for the battery tray, and some metal sleeve tubes to go over the threaded bar. And this...... http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pselfcjcqz.jpg |

Yes, I do like it as well. Today Nicola went to meet up with an old friend who has retired in Thailand as a language teacher. As always they have lunch, followed by a charity shop walk about. Today Nicola bought an evening dress for £2.50 by Maria Grachvogel of London (go Google that brand) where dresses like this usually come in at over £1000.00 She also brought me a £1.00 treat that she found in one of the shops. I saw one once and commented about it. Am I pleased? Absolutely. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psqdzrjazk.jpg |

Many flanges to build the custom exhaust with the QTP cutouts, stainless and mild steel for various connections to headers and out back. Made by a friend who wears tHe cloak of invisibility that anonymity offers. Thanks mate !! Mostly 3" outlet, but 2.5" for the mild steel that the silencers and tail pipes are going to be. Still going to be an anti-social thug this truck when done. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pswhk1yqo5.jpg Pretty darned impressed and happy. Quote:

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Got home from work tonight and got to look these flanges over properly.
Technology does deliver. Neat Neat Neat. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psfqzguztk.jpg I also cut and got the exit tips that will go after the valves to protect them from road debris and rain sorted. Then I went down to the local pub to meet up with Colin, Martin's welder mate to discuss what needs doing. All agreed and will be done in three weeks when Colin is back in the country. Laid out. 2.5" flanges lead to 2.5" pipes and Flowmasters. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pskgsaxwnr.jpg |
