All those little things and one construction to be made, that is the tailgate. I do not want those chains again, so I welded the holes shut in the bedside, maybe you saw that in the last pictures. So now I have to make something work for the tailgate ;) Also a fair bit of wiring to do, with all that I want :dum: Then I want to make the kickdown to work, it's electric thus must make a switch or so at the carb, plumbing for the propane, building doors, insulate the cab, reupholster the bench and so on... So, not finished yet :lol: But, I take my time, set deadlines and go over them all the time :bann: Ha, I'm having FUN!!! |

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Some metal work again today ;)
Had to make a box around the fuelhoses / pipes, to make sure the soft spots are save from any unseen forces  There are ofcourse some rubber elements in the fuellines that I want to protect against vandalism, thats all ;) So, here we go! The hoses and pipes: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/0L...A=w702-h935-no Turning metal into shape: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Uy...A=w702-h935-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/dg...Q=w702-h935-no Half finished: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Lw...g=w702-h935-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/IV...g=w702-h935-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/aJ...g=w702-h935-no It looks big, but in realtime it's not so big... Now I have to think if I should make an underside onto the bed, so that it's closed (in metal or bedwood??) or if I leave it that way.... If you got ideas, please tell!! This last pic is how it is behind the fueldoor (not fully mounted yet) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/h2...=w1247-h935-no |

Maybe I make the rest from the same wood as I make the bedfloor from, just have to think about it some more.... Today I sanded and primered the rest of the inner bedsides and also primered the spears. Inner bedsides going to be high gloss black, the spears high gloss red, just as the cab ofcourse  https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/31...=w1247-h935-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/90...Q=w702-h935-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/d4...=w1247-h935-no Yeah, getting things done :metal: |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Looking good Kees...I would make most of it from metal, at least to meet up with the floor so it wouldn't stand out to much.
Just my opinion.. Mark... |

Over to the TH400 kickdown switch. When I pulled the transpan, I checked if the magnetswitch for the kickdown worked. I can feel and hear it when I put some current on it, so I assume it works. Now I must have a switch at the carbside to let it work as it supposed to be ;) Remember when I asked about the magnetswitch which was at the front of the carb? Well, I cut its bracket up :metal: I made this into a new bracket for a new Old School Microswitch  https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Tk...g=w702-h935-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Ok...A=w702-h935-no After a bit of tweaking and some professional adjustment ;), I bolted the switch at the carb. When you push the throttle, it activates the switch at around 75 - 80% full throttle. It can be further adjusted if needed because I made slotted holes where the switch is bolted on. I don't know the normal adjustment of such a switch so I guessed it would be something like this.... Correct me when I'm wrong? This is idle: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Xa...g=w702-h935-no This is at full throttle: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/eP...w=w702-h935-no I also measured the starter, because it made an awfull metallic sound when you started the truck. Looked like the startergear was all the way down in the flexplate. I made an aluminium plate of 1 mm (19 gauge) and bolted the starter with plate back to the engine. Now I have the startergear about 3/4 of the theeth in the flexplate. I think this should be okay. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-T...g=w702-h935-no This is how it is on the starter: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/xl...=w1247-h935-no Last but not least, I painted the inside of the bed high gloss black :metal: And the spears high gloss red :uhmk: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/3F...=w1247-h935-no I think its gonna be nice when finished :sexy::sexy: Until next time, sleep thight!! |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Black and red look real good.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Great build! Especially given where you are. One question though, why didn't you carry the Red all the way around the taillight surrounds?

The reason why I didn't paint the whole surround is this: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/iF...w=w702-h935-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/dr...w=w702-h935-no The taillight bezel is mounted over the surround. There's gonna be a white pinstripe between the red and the black, it isn't finished yet ;) About 6 months ago, I ordered the new bezels you see here. I ordered aluminium, only checked then if they were in the order I got. I just found out they are stainless :metal: So I got a little lucky :chevy: |

getting done..... nice man! The black and red is 'timeless' for hotrods and bikes and white pinstriping it all will make it complete.... perfect!
I did a rendition of that on my last bike build but went with grey base and then red and white pinstripe instead..... |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Kees, the red and black looks really good!

Thanks Mark, Doug and PTC!!
Ptc, what you said about colors, I was thinking the same, red/black is timeless Hot Rod ;) I thought of grey with red spears too, or even mint green with black spears, all to get that fifties look. I built and striped my bike also in that fifties look https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/t6...=w1247-h935-no |
