I love the forward progress! I sidelined myself while doing home improvement projects. Love the gas fill, best one I've seen yet. Would like to have specifics on it. In one of your bed pics I noticed something that might be an issue. Stock trucks have a heat shield attached to the bottom side of the bed wood that is over the muffler. I think your routing of the exhaust may prove to be too close to the wood. The third pic in post 809, looks like there is only about 3/8" gap between wood and exhaust.

I don't know what happened but after about page 15 I can't see any pics, just little square boxes....... And I'm not happy about that.

I am already planning on putting a sheet-metal shield in-between the wood & the exhaust. It will be attached to the wood, but, have an air gap by using washers to space it away from the wood.
Good observation, but the gap is less than 3/8 of an inch!!!!
I ran the engine at about 1500 rpm for about 20 minutes the other day, and the pipe never got too hot to grab a hold of, but I will add the heat-shields anyways!

I checked on this after you made your post, and from page 16 to about 23 the pics are totally huge, but not missing...Must be something on your end.
I don't know what had happened, but the forum was going through some changes at this point in time, and my pics got all blown-up in size...Sorry that you are not happy!!!! LOL!

Hello everyone!
Somewhat of a simple post, but I have been forced to put my build on-hold until the snow melts!
It has become evident that my dad has certain projects that he wants to accomplish this winter, and because I am building my truck in his shop, i have been forced to move my truck to the "cold side" of the barn...
Not only that, but because of space needed for lawn furniture, and the tractor with a snowblower, and other items, there is exactly ZERO room to work on my truck, and on top of that, no heat...At least until snow melts.
Because of the landscaping that surrounds the barn, it makes it virtually impossible to move my truck from the cold side to the warm side unless the snow is gone...So, I will not be working on the truck for a while.
I do plan on purchasing all of the necessary items needed to finish my project, and in the spring, I will post my progress of all of that, but I probably won't show any installation until it becomes possible.

I understand my dad's issue, and I can't exactly feel comfortable with him wanting to run a disc-grinder next to my truck...Nor do I want him to.

I will feel more comfortable knowing that nobody can even get close to it while they visit.

hmmmm.
Sounds to me like you need your very own shop. Big shop. 45x80. Although an over sized single car garage can work miracles too. Just sayin.
No matter how long the wait Im glad you're keeping the truck in safe quarters.

I moved to Arizona in 1974 from Ludington. I know all about lake effect snow, wind chill and cold workshops.
I completely understand your winter shutdown.

words of wisdom from someone who knows, make sure you build a shop at least twice the size of your house because you will spend twice as much time in it than you will your house, install a bathroom and that will cut out the downtime running back and forth as well :lol:

I was going to put a shower in my shop. I live in the city limits, and was told if I did, it would zoned as " living quarters " The taxes and the permit would have tripled.

We had a family Condo on the channel in Ludington...It would get so frigid there from the wind off the lake that it was unbearable. I am sure that it doesn't compare with AZ. at all!

I have been seriously considering bulldozing my current garage to build a bigger one, but because I live in the city, I am still limited on space...
My girlfriend is a super-successful real-estate agent, and she is keeping an eye open for something that will work out better for me!

Dude, If I build a new garage, the mud-room will surely include a shower!
When growing up, my parent's home had a bathroom with shower directly off the garage, it worked perfect from motocross to car-restoration! LOL!

I will surely look into all of the restrictions before building, but I live in such a high-rent area, with a lower valued home that it probably won't be an issue. LOL!

All you may have to do is get the HAZMAT shower curtains and the sign, then it isnt a shower for living space, but an emergency aid station.

That you happen to flush regularly with soap and shampoo....

Modges buddy, I feel your pain.
My truck aged 10 years on the trip and is only partially tented for the season.
Its like a stab in the chest every time I look at it.

Hopefully for both of us it will be a quick and light winter !!

No progress since my project got moved to the "Cold Side" of the shop.
I am going stir-crazy right now, wishing that I could work on it!!!
Last Friday morning there were areas in the town where my truck is that reported as low as -22 degrees....
This morning when I left for work it was -5 deg, and at noon it was still -2 deg.
I have been searching all of my pics lately, hoping to find something that I forgot to post...
I am very impatiently waiting for a break in the weather!!!

O.K guys!
Well, I Kinda Found some Pics to post that may help me stay off from page #5 of this forum!!!
It may seem kind of lame, but I made a trick support/mount for my air-cleaner.
I had bought all of the tubing for the intake in pieces instead of just buying a cold-air kit, because I wanted it to be custom...
This didn't exactly turn out to be that hard. I looked at the truck closely to see what would work, then went online to figure out what I could buy, and presto!
With a little cutting & fitting, I feel that I have come up with a decent air intake set-up!...And at about 1/4 the price of a something that you could purchase, and then still need to retro-fit to make work.
The only part that I needed to fab myself was the support mount for the air-cleaner, which I welded to a piece of the aluminum tubing that I purchased from Summit, and polished. I used wiper-motor mounts to attach to the fender!...Those rusty-a$$ washers are gone, I just used those to mock it up!
