Anybody need a one barrel carb? Just rebuilt it. Works good. ? Just a stock one. What do you think is a fair price? Also have a 750 truck avenger.

$65 - $75 in that condition here in SoCal. About $95 - $105 for a PepBoys rebuilt (with core) and their quality is generally edgy. Might check Ebay.

geez dave I am jealous --The parts fairy doesn't stop here anymore!!! hurry up and get the thing together so you can tell us how well the intake works in the cold!!

daverod 01-13-2010 09:53 AM

Re: Daverods project 66

I'm excited too. The whole bottom of the intake heats up. I've seen some where just the carb mount heat up.

ol Curt 01-13-2010 10:35 AM

Re: Daverods project 66

Dave,
I bought my headers used. I think the PO had trimmed part of one ear off to make them fit over the pins.

There's one one ebay with a carb for cheap. I'm not sure if it's the same as the one I bought. Looks the same.;)

Re: Daverods project 66

Got my stupid pins out. Had to go get a better gasket. The one that came with the headers was crap. Picked up some grade 8 bolts at Lowes. I think I'm going to paint the intake? Silver or black:ito:

Re: Daverods project 66

Got alittle done today.;) Work on it tomorrow too.:metal: Not to sure how to hook up the throttle linkage or the water to the manifold. Maybe hook it up inline with the hoses going to the heater?

Captainfab 01-17-2010 01:47 AM

Re: Daverods project 66

For the throttle linkage, you could fabricate a kind of bellcrank setup that would bolt onto the rear carb studs. Either that or convert to a cable throttle.

Re: Daverods project 66

Dave-- I read something on stovebolt (or somewhere??) about the carb positioning on a Six. I think It said to turn the 4 barrel carb sideways so the primary's fed evenly to front and rear as the six intake is a long rascal and the primary's are closer to the front in your picture. Recall some controversy on whether you get equal fuel to the front and rear cylinders. Maybe others can enlighten us both on this matter.
OR just keep the throttle down and the secondaries working and you should be fine!!!

Never really thought of that. I was just rying to line things up. I guess I'll just hammer down everywhere I go. Kinda normal anyway. I'll see how turning it works.

Thanks Capt I might just go with a cable :uhmk:

ideas. I was thinking about turning the carb. It seems no matter what the center cylinders would get more gas then the end ones. I do see how it would be more even. Looks like 1/2 turned 1/2 not turned.

I turned mine 90 degrees and it didn't make any difference in performance. Most die hard inliners say it does...perhaps if you racing......
