Re: My 1965 build thread
Oh Hell, dont sweat it man. It wont be the last thing that doesnt work out. Worst case, pull the motor and front sheetmetal and patch the rails.
Dont let it bother you,its only metal, whip it back in shape. ;) |
Re: My 1965 build thread
Hey Alan you might want to try the ones I have, Hooker 2466HKR, These are painted. But they do have ceramic coated also. 2466-1HKR. They fit really nice. I'll get a pic up tomorrow of mine on the motor and frame

Re: My 1965 build thread
That's too bad Allan. Those were nice headers. I don't think the frame looks that bad. Do you think you weakened it by notching it? If so just brace it with a "L" angle steel, drill it, paint it and bolt it in top & side of frame. Just a brain fart, but it might work.
Lesson learned, 1. fabricate 2. assemble complete vehicle 3. fix mistakes 4. disassemble completely 5. then paint 6. final assembly |

Re: My 1965 build thread
That sucks about the headers, Alan. It will come together.
I have a suggestion for ya, if you get the chance. For us DIY body workers, how do you clean up your spreaders? Or do you just pitch them? I'm also interested in how you deal with your waste products such as sanding dust and the gun cleaner/mineral spirits/thinner that you use. Its probably second nature to you, but I need some ideas as Im setting up my space to be able to spray. Thanx and keep up the good work. |
Re: My 1965 build thread
Not sure what he does but i let the spent solvent evaporate. Same with the left over paint and primer. Epa says if its a slolid i can throw it in the trash. But i also use the 3m cups so i just set them out and throw them away. Dust goes in the trash. Epa states you can spray 12 cubic feet a day without a booth. As for the spreaders well peel it off just as the filler gets hard.. Leave a layer of it on the spreader and that makes it ez to peel

Re: My 1965 build thread
Thanx for the info 70; the 3M cups are the mixing cups? for ratio?
|
Re: My 1965 build thread
no Im sorry i was refering to the pps mixing cups. I mix spray and throw them away. for me I find them to save alot of time and thinner. I mix the paint in them then spray then let the cup sit and when the paint is dry I toss it out
|
Re: My 1965 build thread
^^ See im a cheap arse and id rather clean them up than buy a .59 cup because its over 20 miles to where i get them

Re: My 1965 build thread
OKC doesnt have any hardware stores??
|
Re: My 1965 build thread
from okc?? dont you have sherwin williams.. they sell them. tasco color. car quest... ?? I thnk oriles sels them too well you can order them. I dot it because its less mess and clean up. I dont have to mix it in a cup Im going to toss then pour it into a cup I have to use solvent to clean. so i guess im green.. lol

Re: My 1965 build thread
When my dad first opened his shop he would set is excess liquids in the disposable aluminum pans you get at the grocery store. Then he would set it in an open air covered area to evaporate/harden. He did this for a couple years until his shop started to grow.

Re: My 1965 build thread
Just had to share a little of what I do at work. This along with any hard side hit sucks. Power sliding doors makes even harder. Thank goodness this one is manual. I don't have any before pics with me, but this is where it's at today. I have already replaced the suspension. The wheel was drove in and back.
http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...t/DSC00208.jpg And this is what I get to put in. They don't sell these pieces seperately like most cars. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...t/DSC00210.jpg |

If you don't know already you will have to get an adapter for your specific model gun to use the PPS system. I have been using them for 6-7 years (when they demonstrated at our shop). If you don't have a good connection with a paint supplier I don't know where the best place to get them would be. I ordered a case (100/ct) 2 years ago and just used my 50th one. You ask how do you know you used the 50th one. No.....I'm not counting them, they come in 2 sleeves of 50/ea. I have seen them in Autobody toolmart also. Don't worry about the questions that's what we are here for to help each other.[/QUOTE] Yeah i knew about the adapter for the gun, im going to have to get some of them and check it out. Your good at posting and and then being offline.. are you being sneaky and hiding under the radar?? |

Re: My 1965 build thread

Re: My 1965 build thread

|
Re: My 1965 build thread
I am going to be getting some from eastwood catalog they have the starter kit for 99.00 and I think it would help using gravity feed while spraying cab roof and underside of fender lips. Glad to see the trucks coming along alan.

Re: My 1965 build thread
I use those PPS liners at the shop, too. What I do, though, instead of letting the paint dry in the cup -'cause that can take forever with base coat- is to pour it in an empty gallon can, then throw the emptied cup away. I use the same gallon can to dispose of left over clear, sealer. primer, and base, so it all dries together. I throw about 5 gallons away a year. THis way, you don't have a bunch of cups crowding your table top like this:
