Last night, I agreed on a price to buy two rear stepside fenders from a member. I don't need the driver's side fender but I figure for the price it's worth the trouble of storing it and selling it later. I am very happy. :-) One more part down and down without shipping!

fri nite i installed my cab for the last time:metal:

on sat i figured i would take the weekend off from the truck.
but before i did i slapped most of the sheet metal on too get a good visual of what i'm working towards and too check a few things.
this is the first pic/time i've had a periord correct bed on this truck.
i have alot of sanding and body work coming this spring(ugh i cant wait)its too cold to do it now so i'll get everything prepped until then.

seeing the body slapped together gives me great incentive too get'er done.

i even had too pop on my e primed oe caps on just for the looky look(2nd pic)

Hi Guys,

This weekend I rebuilt my steering gear box 71 GMC 1500. Bit nervous taking it apart but all went well, no lost balls. Rebuilt due to seals leaking oil. Here are a couple great links from Youtube that made it much easier. There are five videos that go into great detail on the Saginaw gear box, with power steering.

Yanked out the windshield to make sure no rust, doing some rust repair on the drop rail and gonna do something different on the roof

Finding good parts for American made vehicles in your neighborhood has to be difficult at best. You are doing a fine job with your truck. I applaud you Gor.
It looks like you also have several American cars in that shop too.

I got it from GotChrome.com for only $169 & free shipping. It's a Westin Fey Silver Diamond step Bumper (it looks more gray primer to me, I'm going to re-powder coat it black anyways) & I got the brackets from Summitt Racing (part# FEY-92500) for $50 & free shipping on those too. GotChrome.com also carries the chrome bumpers & they are $307 & free shipping. Do your research on the getting the right brackets, per Westin & Summitt said the brackets fit that bumper, they do but they did not fit the inside of the frame as per the bumper instructions said to install them that way. I should have just mounted the brackets on the outside of the frame first and do a test fit to see if the bumper mounting bracket holes would have lined up with the bracket. But I was he77 bent on going by the instructions. I guess you live & learn by trial & error on refurbishing old cars & trucks.

Thanks Boog! Yeah there are problems with spare parts. Rokauto ...Summit helps us :metal:. It is the home garage of my friend, he repair US cars prefer Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, but for me with my Chevy made ​​an exception :lol: . he has a few American cars.

I had this bench seat restored and reupholstered to go into my '68 - replacing some off the wall buckets the previous owner installed. Also decided to remove the majority of blue interior components and go with a mostly black interior (other than the cab paint, glove box, ash tray and steering column).

Here it is in the garage with the interior stripped ready for the new parts. The whole floor pan is pleasantly rust-free.

Another naaaasty job.

But, thanks to good info from Tom and some other Forum Members, I threw away the new, but saturated brake shoes
in the right rear. Cleaned everything up with a can and a half of brake cleaner and some elbow grease, and put some
new shoes in.

Test drive. No more lock-up. :metal:

This pic is after the clean up and the test drive. Looks like I didn't get all the now-powdered brake gunk off of the garage floor.
You should see the Levis.

One of those things. As much as I love my truck, I sometimes run hot and cold....Or maybe energetic or lazy.... on climbing under her.

Recently, I've looked out on these sunny December days and say, "Good day to take RAT for a ride."

Since she locked up on me in the right rear pretty seriously a couple of months ago, I think, "First, I gotta fix that brake shoe issue." And then,
next thing I know, I'm back doing something else not truck-related. LIke fixing freeze-related broken water pipes.

Today it was so nice. I was headed out to pick up a pal that had given me a hand during the RAT build. He hasn't ridden in the truck yet. I
thought it was a perfect day to surprise him with a ride. Then I thought, "Nice surprise it would be for him.... to go into a brake-infested fishtail
into a ditch...on *his* side." I took the car.

For the last several weeks, I've even had a set of new shoes sitting on the workbench. So I smacked myself on the forehead with my palm, and
got down to the task at hand.

Now, like you say Boog, next time I'm out, I'll be ready to enjoy a ride in the California sunshine.....And, next time I pick up Jack, it'll be in the truck!!!!

My 062 heads are in the shop...got some other parts coming, too. Since the trusty 350's running very well now, it's time to make some more messes and
drain my paltry stash some more. And maybe make a little more torque and horsepower.

Anodizing stripped, wet sanded, polished, masked and painted. Polishing outside frame now.

Last Saturday I spent a long fun day with my '71 GMC... car show up in Daytona from 7 to 1 then to WING HOUSE for lunch. Like Hooters but WAY shorter shorts. Then I spent from 3 to 9pm inside Daytona Speedway watchin' about 50 cars practice and test for the upcoming ROLEX 24. Put 100++mi. on the truck and got some nice compliments on it. Great, BUT, I listened to lifter noise all day and it got worse as the day went on. Drove it home on I-95 about 75mph, figured GO or BLOW. Less lifter "CLOP-CLOP" noise when I got home. Yesterday I pulled the dr. side valve cover off and found #3 rocker crossways off the valve stem and a bent pushrod. Recently I replaced cheezy roller rockers with new set of stock Sealed Power stamped rockers, pushrods too. Zeroed the lifters very carefully running and still didn't like the way it sounded. Original 350, unknown rebuild by PO, 487 heads, screw in studs,Milodon guide plates, Performer RPM, 650 Holley. Runs cool, good oil pressure, doesn't sound like much cam, runs on regular. I don't know if it's eating the cam or maybe the guide plates are binding on the pushrods. Bought 1 pushrod and vale cover gaskets last night. Gonna take the guide plates out and put it back together today. I don't mind changing an engine out but I'd rather do it 'cause I wanted to than HAD to.
