I guess it was built with what he had laying around.

This photo was taken in 1959 after a truck loaded with explosives caught fire and leveled most of the downtown area of Roseburg, Oregon. Roseburg today is a big hotrod town; I wonder if that AD truck in the background is still somewhere in town?

Yes and much of old downtown roseburg looks same except for homeless roaming around.

There is a memorial plaque at the blast site. The explosion absolutely leveled a square mile of town. At least 14 people were killed. Here's another TF truck in the rubble:

There may be more pictures from that blast here in this thread. The story was very tragic, and as I remember the truck driver blamed himself for the damage despite the trucking company being found at fault.

"Mr First in Line" used this '51 Panel to drive from Yuma to Indy in time to be the first at the 500, for 12 years.

I looked hard at the Panel truck driven by "mr first in line" and cannot believe i actually drove one of these non stop from Hollywood CA to Rochester New York in 1969. 3 of us taking turns 2 sleeping in back. All at 45 MPH ( rod knock at 46 MPH). Rough trip, but back then 19 year olds could take anything.

There's a few of 'em still around. I know a couple that don't believe the world only exists on a screen. Downside is you can't tell them anything just like the old guys couldn't tell us anything.

A few more:

Maternal Grandfather was Army Air Corps, father was Air Force. Dad worked in missile silos at Fairchild then sent to Arkansas. "Pa" went down over Germany on first flight. Spent time in concentration camp, forced into DEath March. I learned most of this after he passed because he never complained or talked about much while alive. Tough to work with Milennials complaining about internet connection making it tough to play shoot n kill war game.

"Pa." Back row, photo left.

I was not built for military service.
