That is a cool shot down on your truck.

Neither did I. I did get the glove box installed tonight Real tight. The older one is not as high of an opening. Learning every day on here.

Nice to see you are still enjoying it! Is the off road park you're close to anywhere near the big fire up there? I had to laugh about your comment on trying to sneak out of the neighborhood with a diesel. Everything I have is a loud diesel. It does make it a bear to leave early without waking everyone up.

Went out for a hour cruise tonight then stopped for dinner. I'll be enjoying my GMC for years!! We mainly off road on snowmobile trails that are on public land. No the fires are in Alberta and are about 2500 miles away from me.
My Jeep isn't very quiet either lol. The new diesels are so quiet. But who wants to drive a boring Honda.

LOL thanks ptc

Today I went and picked up my 3.54 gears. going to install them on Sunday.
Then I think I fixed 2 small oil leaks in the top of the motor, didn't drive it yet. Friday afternoon I am going to give to it's first bath, I hope it doesn't leak.

Well we Joe and I got the gears in with some help from Andy. It was not easy the carrier is so heavy we think about 100lb with the locker at head height and we put it in 3 times. Maybe weighed a bit less but that's what it felt like. We had to move the carrier .002 to get proper backlash. But all is good. After we broke in the gears with a rolling burn out. ;) So my RPM dropped 350rpm, so now at 60mph I am at 2100rpm not 2400rpm or so.

The old "rolling burn out breaking the gears in procedure" looked and sounded really cool.

Lower, what diff did you use? I don't remember...and I've never seen a toothed spacer like that.

Thanks AD best way to do it lol
It is a Dana 70 dually out of the '94 ford cube van that my drivetrain came out of. The toothed gear is for the abs, but I am using it for a speed sensor. The ring presses onto the OD of the carrier and there is a 2 wire sensor that reads it.

So today I decided to put some tunes in the truck I already had the amp and bought some 6x9 speakers and boxes they will go in the cab corners. I mounted the amp under the passenger seat. I am running rca from the amp to a headphone jack and can plug in my phone or ipod. I hooked it up enough to try and sounds really good.

OK the gears are so much better, and it really pulls like a freight train now:metal:
Question time post your guesses on how much my GMC weighs. I am going to put it across the scales at the city dump tomorrow. I will also try and get the 50/50 split weight as well. I will post up Thursday or Friday eve, when I get a bunch of guesses. I will subtract myself and calculate out the fuel.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

I will play what do I win if I'm closest?

4385lbs is my guess tough to know what the trans and axle all add to the equation

EDIT: 60F/40R

RockinKees 05-18-2016 05:04 PM

Re: My 52 GMC Build

My guess is 4123 lbs.
Weight 58% front, 42% rear.

lower50's 05-18-2016 09:48 PM

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Well I would love to buy the winner a coffee or beer but I'm not sure how to do that due to distance. So we will see.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

It's like the price is right in here now Lower50s all like "come on down" what if two people are equidistant is there a showcase showdown round? ;)

lower50's 05-19-2016 03:30 PM

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Valarius_Starchaser 4385lbs 60F/40R

Johnny_Lamebridge 4500 lbs and 54%F, 46%R

Dieselwrencher 4250lbs.

RockinKees 4123 lbs. 58% front, 42% rear

piratexpress1369a 4950 lbs

jed971959 4985lbs

joedoh 4650

Advanced Design 4280 lbs...62% front, 38% rear

Lower50's 5100 lbs 60% front 40% rear

The truck without me and no fuel is 4631 lbs and it is 55% front 45% rear
With me and 15.5 gallons of diesel it was 4900lbs So I would say the winner is:
joedoh:clap: If we ever meet up I will buy you a drink!
Johnny_Lamebridge won the split I will buy you a beer!! :barn:

Thanks for your guesses guys, during the build I was hoping it was not over 5000lbs and I got my wish. But I am really surprised that it is so close to 50/50

In October we are driving my GMC to north Carolina for the Good Guys show. It is about a 800 mile drive. Maybe I can meet up with some of you there or on our way back. I have a day and a half to get there before the show and a week to tour home.

That sounds like an awesome trip! You've got all summer to get the bugs worked out, so it shouldn't be an issue making the drive. If you have time, I'd recommend you check out a couple Nascar team shops. They're pretty impressive! Three years ago I spent an entire day checking out a bunch of them. It was the best part of my vacation... but the wife might not agree. :waah:
