That Lance looks nice. Makes my little FWC seem like a clubhouse in comparison.

But, I'm 6 foot tall and can sleep in the overhead or lower bench. The overhead is actually a few inches wider than I am tall, so I have lots of room up there.

No sink, no crapper, no stove inside, but the trade off in size pays off that I can drive mine deeper into the sticks and camp anywhere I want.

Pre-camping pic. Been catching up on maintenance. Fridge needs a new thermostat, removed the lift jacks, cleaned and treated the rubber roof and touched up a bunch of the seals with silicone.

At least the fridge is stuck in the compressor always on state. If I drink the beer fast enough it won’t freeze.

you must have a very good wife!
the one concession i have to make to wifey when rv shopping, it's got to have a toilet...myself i could care less, i'm like a bear when i'm in the woods, the miss'us, nope, nada, no way....which kinda sucks, i like a 8 foot camper so i can shut the tailgate, but a bathroom in a 8 sure eats up the room...

ya, our overhead is like yours, plenty-o-room, but the fridge cuts the table bed down to 5-5. and i'm a realist, i know my rig is pretty big out in the bush, but it gets us to where there is "no people around for miles aroma". it's the width that i find can be annoying, height and length ain't a problem, a wide full size camper in the bush is...and we still got the quads to get further out when needed.
my wife and me used to sleep in the back of my K5 25 yrs ago, but there is no way in hake she will do it anymore. but my son and me unloaded the camper yesterday, we're thinking putting the canopy back on the truck and grabbing the tent and going out next weekend...
Attachment 1803224

last time we had this on the truck was before we picked up the camper-many, many years...

nice looking pop-up MTCK!
what kind is that?
we actually looked at a pop-up last mon, a 9' Palamino...but unfortunatley it had no toilet so wife scratched that one off the list...

That looks good with the topper on it. I just sold mine. The wife said she was done lifting it on and off the truck in the fall and spring.

Camper is a 9.5’ Hallmark Cuchara. It has the bathroom, black and grey tanks. We love it.

She's ok with somewhat primitive camping. We've tent camped a lot, but most of the time we were really car camping at a lake with her sister's family, so it was in a campground with decent facilities within walking distance.

Last year's run to Pearl pass was the first time since College that she's gone wheeling/camping with me. That's going on 20+ years ago. As things happen, she can't take the heat of staying on the front range camping at any lake when the temps are high and little to no chance for air conditioning. (heat can trigger her MS to flare up ugly) But last years trip proved she could still camp, not get hot as it's easily 20degrees cooler in the higher elevations. The only issue on Pearl pass was actually getting cold because it dipped deep into the 40's to high 30's at night and we didn't have heavy enough bags to sleep in. The idea of a camper with a furnace where she didn't have to sleep on an air mattress and freeze her tail off was instrumental to me getting the FWC camper in the first place.

She won't go on every run, but we can also do some closer runs just to get into the hills for the weekend and be less "wheeling" and more camping/hanging out and relaxing.

We've got another trip planned with the two families we went over Pearl Pass with the weekend after next. We won't be hitting any hairy trails like last time, but it's still in a great area and fun to go through. It will be in the central mountains in our normal go-to wheeling spot, but this time we'll hit Pomeroy Lakes, Hancock lake & pass and possibly Tomichi Pass with a return on Old Monarch pass. They are fun trails, but some of the group not as used to the off road stuff voted to take it easier this time. (hopefully, they don't look up details on Tomichi pass as it's a narrow shelf up and down)

We haven't gone camping or even wheeling for while. I've got one picture of a trip to Mount Shavana above Salida. We used to go over Medano pass into the sand dunes and tent camp part way down the dunes side. But no pictures :(

wish it was closer...

Hey Bronco's are pretty cool. I've even been upside down in a 70 Bronco one time. Not the most fun thing to do and might have been less painful with the seat belts bolted in and used, but I was a dumb kid in my buddy's ride.

Medano Pass is a nice easy run, but very pretty at the same time. I've camped just down from the summit on the dunes side at the edge of the creek. I want to take a weekend and do just that, camp above the dunes (usually free of the touristas staying in the dunes campgrounds), wheel out of the park (hint hint, you don't have to pay the national park entry fee if you come in off of the pass) and then drive up to Villa Grove on 285, turn and go east over Hayden pass. Camp on the pass somewhere and then drive down back to hwy 50 and back home. Again, it's not a crazy rock crawling trail, but just rough enough to keep the Subaru's and other Crossover's off of it.

You need to get that K5 out on some dirt. Once you gain some elevation you really don't need air conditioning anyway.

Sweet OJ ride!

Looks like a few good options on the campers, Dawg.

Here’s a top down pic in its natural state. Last trip I got almost 10 mpg but not today. Too much skinny pedal...

Went up for the weekend to screw around in the mountains a couple of days back. Camper got a good workout with the wife and one of my dogs coming along for the first time.

30,000 Gallon water tank for the old steam engine that rain up to the Apline Tunnel. The trail my truck is on was the old road bed for the rail line.

Then the funny part. This is a fairly new Mazda CX-5 cross-over. Look closely and you'll see 3 flat tires in the pic. Actually all were flat, the bonus is the right front had come completely off the bead. This was 200ft from the summit of Tincup Pass. It's pretty tame for my K5 as trails go and your average stock 4wd truck can go over with no lift and a decent set of tires. But the size of the rocks kinda preclude taking a "Soft-Roader" over it with 40-series low profile tires and zero ground clearance. The poor car got beat to death. Rockers are missing trim and beat in by the rocks, even the doors got hit hard at the bottom.

Minimum wrecker fee from a Tow operator in nearby Buena Vista Colorado was $250 per hour from when they leave the shop to where they drop it. Just getting to the top from the south trailhead would be 2.5 hours easy. We all laughed hard over this dummy.

vacationing in 2018 ha not been very memorable so far....
the guy with the Lance camper 'gave' it to his BIL....why did he even bother to advertise it...and with our camper down, we decided to head for the BC/Alberta border with the wife's truck. there is a cluster of 4 national parks there, kinda like Yellowstone, a national park.
It's a round trip of approx 1900 kms (around 1200 miles). like Yellowstone, these parks are the jewels of our country, Yoho, Kootenay, Banff, and Jasper.
I have been there three times, twice as a kid and with my wife back in 2002.
Has got a lot more touristy, and waaaay more expensive....
we have around 600 forest fires going right now, so about 80% of our province is covered in heavy smoke, as well as we also got smoke from the Calf. fires drifting up, and a bunch of smoke floating over from some big fires in Siberia.
