Re: 2wd Blazer and Jimmy's find thread

I wonder how many 4wd conversions I've seen now...apparently most of the 2wd's I've seen. Thanks for the knowledge. Yet another reason to not want a 2wd-I hated the way my pickup drove when loaded with anything heavier than a duffel bag and some camping gear. But I guess those with restored 2wd Blazers most likely arent hauling hordes of stuff in them. When empty my pickup drove smooth, so I can see the draw to that suspension as a cruiser.

I agree with the trailing arms, but I disagree with the high/low hump question. My uncle used to have a 71-2wd. It had a high hump in it, from what I could tell it was originally a 6cyl-3OTT truck. The truck now belongs to CMACDONALD1. Tony you could probably check and confirm or debunk my theory:) here's a pic of the truck in question.

I'm almost positive I've seen factory 2wd Blazers come that way, and I've seen coil ones too. I've owned a 72 GMC 2wd that was a coil truck, despite what every book and auto parts computer told me existed. As for the hump, those can be unbolted and swapped around easily too right? I vaguely remember swapping in a high hump into Dad's 69 2wd Chevy because we had carpet that would fit high and not low.

Now the CDO in me is totally going to scope out the underside of every 2wd Blazer I encounter. hehe

Mine is an original GMC 2wd. It has coils and trailing arms. I switched over to high hump for a 5spd. TKO.

Don't you need a high hump for manual trans?

Just asked my dad about all these options. He confirmed it as well, high humps in all 4X4 and 2wd 4spd trucks. All the rest of the 2wd were low hump. All 2wd were indeed coil, despite trim level. He said you couldnt even order a 2wd with leaf rear out of the catalog (that was Dec 70 when he was ordering whats now my 71 GMC 4X4).

I'm amazed at how well he can remember all these things. Glad you guys know your stuff too or us youngsters would have to listen to the internets more than we already do. ;)

Old gearheads can remember everything about their rides... down to the last nut. But we cant remember our wives birthdays or what we had for dinner last night. Its a savvant kind of thing.

Pretty sure that only 4 speeds in 2wd needed the high hump Tony. Only the high humps can be unbolted.

1972 Jimmy original 4x2 with automatic, no hump and coils all around.

Re: 2wd Blazer and Jimmy's find thread

1970 2wd with a high hump here...it has a column shift and only 1 pedal (meaning automatic) but the spid was gone so no telling if it was like that from the factory. However, the firewall had the original chalk markings and there was no sign of a clutch linkage previously being there so my guess is that it was an automatic off the assembly line.

Here's one decent clean rolling frame for some Lucky B.C person !!! (TNAMRINE)
I would scoop this in a heartbeat if it was at least 600 miles closer!

That frame is in good shape. The owner is delivering me a top this weekend in trade for a bunch of parts I have kicking around. Someone should snag this before i decide to build a twin to mine lol

Do you think i could get that thing shipped to me to Edmonton at a decent $$? I would seriously consider for a future project... IF you could help me move it there may be some beer $$ in it for you..
