Okie dokie..

Went to used carlot monday with my gpaw, guy had quite a few 6772's well I come back next day in my 68 get alot of comments old man i talked to prior afternoon said 'whered you get this truck' turns out he used to own it and painted it/packed er fullo bondo, but I thought it was a cool coincidence..

Anyhow, went today and got:
-heater controls NICE SHAPE! sorry no pics
-72 cable throttle assy with good cable brackets
-cig. lighter delete (worth anything, never saw one, i know some deletes are popular, i may put it on my truck cause i dont smoke lol)
-heater temp switch (top of heater box inside truck, i needed one

Its a really nice 'parts truck' really nice bed, pretty good cab etc etc etc' He had a 69 swb step there too, along with abunch others, he had more at home he said! (he likes these trucks, always has a few on the lot'

No pictures tonite...been busy driving the truck and burning gas (50$ in less than 2 days!)

tomorow im going with an older farmer guy that has antique museum in viola, he used to have a 66 gmc and there is a nice 66 CHEVY down the road a few miles 66 lwb fleet I6 3spd original faded paint wood floor looks really cool! I told him buff the paint, have drums redone or install discs/swaybar and new tires and make it all safe and have fun! So me and the gf (pretty close to us too) are going to look at it, get pumpkins for decorations yay lol and out for a bite tomoorw, then maybe i'll get to tinker on the truck after i do tuneups to the wheelers need to work on the 53 too :) AND on top of that go to 'greeter falls' in grundy co, HUB ITS SUPPOSED TO BE A HIKE BUT VERY PRETTY MAYBE U AND THE WIFE WOULD LIKE IT IDK WHATCHALL ENJOY? I'll get pics when we go.

Re: "Rice Rocket'

Ya know what kills me is all the wrecking yards in my area have been picked clean, and there are 67-72 scavengers around here snapping up all the parts vehicles as well.. There in it for a bucks i guess, makes it hard for the guy just wanting to keep his project going without having to pay a premimum for parts.

^Doin that tom. after we get back from hike to falls.

Got my new heater controls put on this evening, along with the temp switch I was missing (mounts to top of heater box behind glovebox). I *think* I have the cables routed correctly, but started a post just in case, I oiled the cables with oil, and if feels like i'll break the levers trying to change the settings lol (dad told me graphite, is it that much better? I couldnt find it so didnt use it).

Bout it, except going through gas like no tomorow! Hopefully I find a rusted gas tank someone will let me chop the neck off of soon :) Then I can finish my filler install!

I shot it thru the rear glass of my truck?

Idk it was her camera, usually I shoot with my cell phone with superglue stuck to the lense :)

Its alot of fun on the mtn backroads hub, twisty turny and lots of cool photo shooting places....The leaves were perfect, I had to get a shot!

Re: "Rice Rocket'

you've made some excellent progress on your truck even with the crash. Keep up the good work.

oldblue1968chevy 10-17-2010 10:42 PM

Re: "Rice Rocket'

Thanks man! Haha, I think the crash was actually a good thing, Real pita but a good thing all in all! I wish i knocked the dent out best I could and kept the blue bed..Woulda saved $ and been all 1 color..I really wanna get it all 1 color, my bud painted his truck with tractor paint, it came out good for the $ involved, may go that route temporarily..Need to do something about the holes, its getting cold out

What're some script CHEVROLET valve covers work? They look awesome, i cant use em but my bud has some for a 327 with no holes in em, I want em but what are they worth? (NOT MINE, SOMEONE ELSES I THINK IM ALLOWED TO POST THIS)

kind of weird.. my dad lives about an hour from where you lived and i go on vacation in nashville.. hmm. lol anyway hows it running? did you ever get all the timing/tuning/valve adjustment issues worked out?

oldblue1968chevy 10-17-2010 10:49 PM

Re: "Rice Rocket'

Yeah its pretty good, I did a cool 2nd gear burnout last nite comming home from my moms (CANT DO THOSE SELF, BRAND NEW TIRES) I need some old tires to burn lol

It could all use some tweeking still, hard to start...but brakes are main concern right now, I need to fix those correctly, and fix my e brake.

I need to change the oil filter also, I cant track it via mileage cause speedo quit, so i need to fix that too GRR lol

-Oil change/valve adjustment
-Licence plates over holes in cab
-Finish heater install, lube cables more too
-Brakes, e brake cable (too short) rotors/pads, make sure they dont hang anymore
-choke cable
-Gas filler
-Spark plug looms (centerbolt/ram horns)

Thats all of the importanat things, some arent even important, I need a job, any tips Im thinking lowes or the autoparts stores...Im 18 also..Know the assistant managers/managers pretty good so idk

Please don't paint it with tractor paint.. you'll hate yourself later. i'll come down and give you some pointers on prepping it, and when you get it ready, I'll come down there and spray it for you. You can buy a cheap paint kit for $300 to $400.

Re: "Rice Rocket'

Can you post some pics of your brake calipers, M/C, prop valve, and lines?
I can't figure out what you are doing wrong,...

lolife99 10-18-2010 11:02 PM

Re: "Rice Rocket'

If you drive down the road,... does your wheel get hot to the touch,... like the caliper is sticking?
Does it pull to the right or left when you brake?
