What is PEP? Is that pep, like spunk? LOL! I have rung him out good a couple times so far. For still having the 2.73 rear, it still gets up and hauls! Can't wait to get a 3.42 rear in there!! :metal: I'm not sure what Jesse did with the upper limit. Quote:

The check engine light is still on, but it's for the rear O2 sensors, which I don't have. So Jesse must not have deleted them. So some day when snow is in the forecast for a week or so I will send the PCM back to him so he can fix that. And I'll see if he can firm up the shifts too. Otherwise I'm not going do worry about it too much. Well, I pulled Fred in the shop to pull the original engine on 8-29, and less than a month later he has a new heart. Somewhere along the way I decided on a lofty goal to be done in time for our Colorado cruise that is on the 27th, tomorrow. I still can't believe we will be going tomorrow! :metal: If anyone reading this has been on the fence about doing it, or even debating doing ANYTHING to your ride, plan it out thoroughly, find out what worked and what didn't work for others and make your plan based on that, and set a budget. It CAN be done! I'm no one special, I'm just not afraid to jump in and get both feet wet. That's how I get my thrills! Next week I'm going to gather up all the notes I made as I went, along with all the stuff in my notebook, and start working on getting a how-to put together. It won't be done quickly, but it will get done. I'm hoping to have all the part numbers that are important to this swap, along with alternate things like engine mounts, trans mounts, exhaust, etc. Time to relax!!!!!! :metal: |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
:metal: right on!! your the man Bob!!!! i cant wait to get mine.
so there's alot more power on tap huh? and when Jesse does the pcm modding do you have to tell him to firm up the shifts when you send it to him? now about that burnout video?? i'm sure your son can hold the camera and shout when to let'er rip!!;) |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
:metal:
enjoy yourself tomorrow, you definitely deserve it  |

Yeah, I'll just let him know that i want the 1-2 and 2-3 firmed up. And I will probably put in the Vette servos in the tranny, that helps a bunch too. I need to wait until I get the new rear end, then budget tires. Then I will absolutely destroy these! Quote:

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
WOW! thats sweet Bob... a 5.3 w/ those 2.73's and it feels that good... amazing!! who needs a 6.0 huh!?!?
at least we all still have update mods coming from you soon:lol: and X2 on having a blast tomorrow buddy! its well earned. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
So i know you are working on a build guide (which I want an autographed copy) but I have 2 questions.
What all did you end up needing from the donor truck? I only ask because I am trying to get a couple of quotes from salvage yards via email. Where did you get those cool cupholders from on the 68? -Dane |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
wow looks good im going to get the 91 burb front end tomorrow
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I will help Bob get some pics taken today of Fred for you all. And if he brings a video camera, I will try to get a rolling clip of him.
Bob, yes there is a park & ride at NW corner of 34 & 25. Give me a call. |

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Bob sweet build. Thanks for shareing all your progress. I now have decided what I am going to build when I get my shop built next year. Thanks again for all your hard work. GREAT JOB!!!!
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Thanks a bunch!
Why do I get the feeling that a bunch of junk yards are going to like me, and a bunch of wives/girlfriends are going to hate me? :haha: You will LOVE this setup! A stock TBI engine doesn't even come close to comparing to a stock LS engine. Of all the projects I have taken on in my shop, this one easily ranks #1! |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
:haha: i know 1 junk yard that hates you and 1 wife that feels about the same!!:haha:
J/k man... i think im going to take a trip down memory lane and reread this sticky deserving thread!! |

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
You mentioned firming up your shifts with the tune...did you get the 'vette servo in there yet? Unbelieveable improvement in shift firmness and feel for very little $$$.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Looking forward to an update....
Im guilty of calling Fred a she, I now know its a He ahahahah Ooops. 2.73 peg leg for the win !! ;) |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Congrats on getting the truck "finished" for the weekend! I have had several of these design engines and I haven't really had a lack of power but mine have all been at least an extended cab truck. I bet your truck is quite a bit lighter so I bet it will Scoot! :5150::ito:

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Well... how did he run today Bob?? lookin good in the pics!!
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I'm glad you have it going man. This has been one impressive thread, and swap. You made it look so easy, and your budget still intact. Great work man you should be really proud.

Thanks guys!!! The way Fred runs is simply incredible! Considering it still has the 2.73 rear end in it, I can't wait to get the 3.42 in! :metal:
I am still fighting a minor trans fluid leak at the top fitting on the radiator, but I think there is just probably a small piece of junk in there. I tightened it once at the get together and that seemed to have fixed it as it was dry when we met my wife for dinner in Ft Collins, but I looked this morning and it was wet again. No biggie there, it'll get fixed. I can feel the lack of gearing on the interstate. At 85-90 in O/D it's OK, but at 75-80 it really needs to be in 3rd. Again, I can't wait for the new gears. So far, just guestimating based on the gas gauge and the miles I have on it so far, I'm around 22 or so for mileage. :metal: Not complaining at all! I'm sure it will get better with the proper gearing so the engine isn't working so hard. Hey Dennis....... |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

so what is the story behind the pic in the pic? |
