Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
Quick question did u stick with a one piece or two piece driveshaft. I changed mine to one piece aluminum shaft 66 inches long and now seem to have a humming vibration at 60 mph but not before. Running 502 with TKO 600 Thanks, Mike
|
Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
I just went thru the same thing... mine is 56" with gear vendors unit. Turned out to be a bad new driveshaft shaft I had made. The new one is a 4" steel shaft its much better but I have a small vibration around 70-75mph I think that's more pinion angle related I need to point the diff down 1 degree. That TKO 600 must point the tail shaft down really low bet you output angle is over -5 degrees. I would start verifying your driveline angles.

Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
Rob,
I either missed it in the build thread somewhere, or these 55 pages began after the suspension was done, I was looking for how you mounted you compressor and air tanks.. I finally got GoldMember in the shop under the knife and should be working on that portion in a week or so.. any help is much appreciated -Drew |

Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
Ok, so I went out to work on the burb today. I hooked the battery up, my Viar air compressor kicked on and ran for about 3 minutes and shut off. Tried to air the rear bags up and nothing. Check the air tank and it was empty. Disconnected and reconnected the battery and once again, compressor runs but does not put any air in the tank. The compressor is brand new (5 years ago, :D) and only has about 1 hr of run time. Really baffling that its running and not pumping any air at all. Any suggestions?

Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
I don't know how it is around your area, but over here if you let something sit too long you will have dirt dauber nests clogging up everything. Make sure nothing is plugging up the intake of the compressor(s). Also, I would check any one-way check valves for stuck components. Dry rings on the piston of the compressor??? Just a few ideas...
|
Re: 1969 SuperBurb build-up (Bagged and Blown!)
As stated above I would look at the one way check valve.

If you are using a Viair supplied leader hose off of the compressor, it will be on the end of the hose. Use the foreground of the pic as reference.

Went through this last weekend, check valve was cracked. Bought a new one and fixed the air leak I have.
Now the passenger front is leaking, got to locate this leak too. Fun never ends... |

I like the short box build. Nice detail and great craftsmanship. Keep up the good work. I think I have the perfect transport for it.

Well the 68 left for California a week ago. The new owner seems very pleased with the truck, :metal:. Since the truck left, I have been cleaning/rearranging my garage and my shop. I'm also trying to figure out where I left off with the suburban and taking inventory of where I'm at. Hopefully I'll get a plan in place and get this build back on track.

Very nice. Congrats on eliminating one. It will be sweet to see the burb progressing too.

Well Rob, it looks like all of the Burb delay excuses are gone now. Time to man up!.... Glad you made out OK on the truck. I don't know who wouldn't be proud to drive that. Too cool! LockDoc |

Got the shop cleaned and making some progress. I cleaned the burb a little and got it up on blocks. I'm still trying to sort out my a/c lines. This was one of the things that caused me to turn the lights off and lock the doors on this project. I think I have it figured out but I need to find a tool or somebody that has the tool to reflare the ends of the a/c lines coming off of the evaporator. Here's a picture of the flare I need to be able to make. Any suggestions would be awesome. |

I work with a guy that has a small hot rod shop on the side that is a dealer for Vintage Air. He said Vintage Air sell the tubing in different lengths with either male or female ends. They told him to bend the tubing how he wants it, send it to them and they would flare it. He did tell me it he ever found the machine to do it he would have one. If you have any question give him a call on the cell number.
