Man, the artwork looks killer. Who did it? There's a lot of talented artists in the Phoenix area. I know Jimmy Smith and few others, and they all turn out awesome work.

Phoenix is one of the best-kept secrets in hotrodding. There are tons of cars stuff to see and do, and lots of shops turning out top-notch rides.

Re: dinos 64 soon to be a long bed dually

how did the speaker box come out? i was thinking of havin a box built for two 12's and use the kenwood slim subs, and have my kenwood 1800 watt amp mounted in the middle! i think they would fit behind the seat!!

dantimdad 10-06-2012 10:10 PM

Re: dinos 64 soon to be a long bed dually

I wouldn't put two twelves in one of these trucks. There isn't enough air space to allow them to perform any better than a pair of 8s or 10s.

Re: dinos 64 soon to be a long bed dually

yeah i have been looking at those shallow kenwoods to seem to be the best priced shallow subs out there. so yeah how that sub box turn out. also AWESOME truck as always dino

the technology of shallow speakers has improved to the point where the air space needed is pretty minimal to the point to where if the speaker fits its going to work at its peak. large bulky boxes are a thing of the past.

dantimdad 10-07-2012 02:07 PM

Re: dinos 64 soon to be a long bed dually

I should have been more clear. The box size wasn't the concern.

Putting a speaker box inside a vehicle is like putting it in another box. Doing so changes the tuning due to the amount of air space in the cabin. If the speakers are too large, they pressurize the cabin before reaching full excursion causing ear fatigue and mistuning.

This is why using smaller woofers that don't move as much air can actually sound like they produce more bass.

You can also use cabin gain to your advantage. Using a smaller than optimum box with a bit higher tuning will allow the woofer(s) to handle more power and, when operated at a lower wattage, last longer, distort less and still reach the lower octaves of the spectrum.

Granted, I tend to go for sound quality rather than spl, but, I have designed a lot of systems for spl as well. It's a dance with any vehicle, trucks even more so.

Steven
