Ive been using the picture of your truck as a screen saver for a couple months now. Its close tot the same color Im painting my 70. But mine will be flat tan.

Found some mud this weekend.

Freshly built suspension, axles, lockers, and 4wd work great so far.

Got some fresh cowboy pinstripes and found out that my peep mirror works great as a branch hook. Almost ripped it off a couple of times.

http://www.ooberfabrication.com/wp-c...3/IMG_3993.jpg

I'm working up in trust in the truck to handle farther drives and offroad difficulty  . This place was about 45 min drive away. Next stop KS Rocks which is ~1 hr and 45 minute drive, I will have to pack some earplugs if I take 'er that far.

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

maibe make the mirrors so you can twist them off when offraoding , seems to e the simplest solution

My 1985 GMC High Sierra Step Side, Got her a few years ago at 15 years old as my first truck. The truck was pretty much bone stock, now 18 (still in high school) many sleepless nights later this is my end result .. for now. This truck has mannnny more up grades to come. Its believed to have 360k on the original 305, just started to burn oil bad and leak oil. Hopefully.. getting a 350 this summer. couple before and after shots.

mud.man.rj 04-24-2014 12:18 AM

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

That 85 Sierra is a cool first truck, or really just cool in general. Nice all around and good project to make nothing but better. Some nice add ons already too.

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

realy nice looking truck
jegs sells a brandnew GM 350 for not a lot of money
http://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet-Perf...rentProductId=
its pretty basic cast crank cast pistons but 4 bolt mains and a 2 piece rearseal
with all the stuff you have on youre 305 now you should have about a whole new longblock under the hood when youre done

if you want more grunt i would go for a 383 with an eagle or scat rotating assembly and some vortec heads and some sort of cam meant for towing , that keeps the rpm low , if you build the machined block together youreself you prolly could do it for about 1500 to 2500 dollar depending on the machinework you need done to the bare block
check some of the hotrod builds for details

Funny you mention that motor, Ive been looking at it and was really liking the whole 100k 3 year warranty behind it. I'd love the 383 idea but i just cant, yet. This truck is going to be my daily driver for many years to come. I personally don't know the feeling of anything other than my truck really ( talking power wise). A 350 should feel a world a difference by it self, I'm aiming to spend under 2 k for this whole build what would you suggest being the truck is going to be a daily driver, anything? or should the motor be pretty well set up?

watahyahknow 04-24-2014 10:41 PM

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

the 350 should do fine it should allready give a little more power than advertized with the upgrades you allready have put on youre 305 (headers intake and carb)

should you decide to go bigger at a later date you could prolly use the 350 crate engine as the base engine for the 383 its allready a 4 bolt block or sell the 350 as a good bare shortblock and use the heads and all the external gubbins on the 383 shortblock , spend a little more and you got a rotating assemble with forged everything

think either GM or bleuprint are pretty decent engine builders

found this one :
http://bossmachinefab.com/chevy-sbc-...d-top-383.html
its realy cheap dont know the builder though

Thats a definite idea. looks to be well built too. Thanks for the info. and the link!

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

Sounds like sound advice and should still be fair on fuel compared to the 305, the 383 may be a bit to much for all the driving you do.

Re: How about some pics of your 4x4

That crate engines heads and cam are its limiting factor. I wouldn't use them for a high performance build unless I did lots of work on them. A batter option would be a nice set of vortex heads. You will be pretty happy with the performance of that engine though. I have the same one and geared right it runs great

I wanted a side by side ATV, but hey, they are expensive....I got this 02 Blazer rolled for $600 and put $150 in oilfield pipe on it, is a lot more fun than a stock blazer now! Gonna lift it this winter and put a set of 32" tires on it.

I'm going to build some 1/2 doors for it one of these days. I think it will be one of those projects that's never done. I keep finding things I want to change. The next thing is going to be a flip down windshield and a built in cooler.

if you ever been in the philipines (whell in the old days at least ) there using a lot of jeepneys for public transport , the bodies are reasonably eazy to construct and they look cool , maibe you kan make a nose like that and have some coverage over the front wheels as whell
