Correct, quite a difference between the two, thanks for the clarification. Jim should be receiving the blue set any day now..., the 4x4 set. |

There is a light weight filler to blend that seam in, but now that it is done, I'm thinking I like it better with out the filler. I do have Lab Metal but didn't use it for that purpose Wow, seems funny to go back in time and see that pic |

Re: PO has me PO'd
Thank you guys for your confidence. It's great to know that you are appriciated.
I didn't read back in the thread to see if anyone was asking about both. I pop into this thread once and a while to check on the progress. I was and am now working on a Longhorn for a customer, so I didn't have a bunch of time. WES |
Re: PO has me PO'd
OK, more questions to find the answers for. If you ever have a chance to deal with Roger Koop out of Shawnee, Kansas, you will not be disappointed. Stand up guy, and does what he says he will do. He waited for me on an E-bay auction for a month to get all the funds to him, plus all the emails sent back and forth with questions. Knowledgable guy, and fun to talk to. Guys like him I like to refer to as a 'blast from the past'
Thanks to the guys on the board for the 'heads up'. I think it was 71BLKSUPER4X4 Guess this stuff gives me a reason to install my tilt column, or not! If I take another thing apart...well, you know how that goes, might as well do it syndrome Right now my bracket for the cables is soaking in the rust resolver, I'll show it in two days http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip064.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip065.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip066.jpg |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Forgive my ignorance, but I've never seen a factory cruise set-up before. Is that what I'm looking at?

Here is the throttle bracket after a 12 hour soak in Eastwoods rust resolver. Even did a nice job on the threads of the bolts, left everything a nice light grey patina http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip067.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip068.jpg |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Had to find out if a 4speed bowl would fit from a nontilt column...it doesn't, but I did find a broken wire and a split race, so it wasn't a total waste of a 'President's Day Off'
Back to my original plan to shave and fill the shifter nub PLEASE, no one tell me you don't have to take apart the turn signal switch to disassemble a tilt column http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip069.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip070.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip071.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip072.jpg |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Jim, I have a few 'parts' columns if you need some small pieces or wiring.
Would this be a good time to tell ya about the factory 4spd tilt column I have squirrled away...? :hm: |

It could be fixed with a piece of shrink tubing, very small nick, but I can't figure a way of getting the tubing over the wire. I wonder if the 1/2 circle electrical plug comes apart, sorta like the bulkhead fitting does for the main engine/headlight harness I could use a race for one of the bearings;) Thanks 67chevy for the acknowledgments |

Re: PO has me PO'd
Hey Jim...did all those parts on the work bench come out of the column? Wow, I had no idea!!!
|
Re: PO has me PO'd
The wires come out of the 1/2 circle plug. If you look inside closely with a flashlight you can see the two retension pins/tangs that you have to push in to remove them. If you can't figure it out post or PM me and I'll find the connector I have and I'll post a pic. I used a small pocket knife to push the tangs in.

Re: PO has me PO'd
Here is a pic of that plug with 1 wire out, the size of the knife I use to push in the tabs that are visible in the picture. The second picture is just the wire showing the tabs a little clearer. I bent them out a little for clarity.

Re: PO has me PO'd
Thanks for taking the time, so if I understand this right, the tang that has to be pushed down is on the top side of the connecter
|
Re: PO has me PO'd

No there is one tang/tab on each side of the metal connector. First push the tab on one side and then push the tab on the other side. It may take a couple of tries.

Re: PO has me PO'd
he said "tang"...
I used JB weld to patch the shifter nub on my rebuild... I don't remember having to pull the harness apart like that but I used a van tilt so it might have been a flat adapter... are you going to paint or PC the column once done? JB weld holds up to the PC oven if you are. |

The harness has a pinch in it down to the bare wire. Thing is, I have a red four way flasher knob, and I don't think it is right for my truck. My auto. coulumn has a black push/pull thingy and I like it better, so I may be using that if it fits into my tilt Yeah well, I don't think you have to pull the harness apart either, but it was a steep learning curve:lol: |
Re: PO has me PO'd
I used the JB weld putty on both parts...

Probably not! 20 years of fishing up there and I only kept one that is hanging on the wall:lol: Of course, if I land a state record, there are very loose interpretation of the rules Plus the fact that Jonathon gave me a Sage flyrod for Christmas and I have NEVER thrown a fly rod before. But, as you know it's all about hanging out with my sons and nephews I'll pass it on to the boys, Kurt.! We have a new member to the snowmobiling/fishing trip. He works at Quadratec, so we have to be nice to him Thanks LKSDCVN |

Re: PO has me PO'd
Snowed from Wed. 5PM to Sun. 11AM...Caught and released 3 fish, my 1 larger, to Jon's 2 smaller:lol: 2 pair of waders failed, so one leg was filled with river water, and freaking cold for 8 hours, but that is fishing in Upstate NY. Dick's sporting goods WILL be dealt with!
The grille on the boat was a pleasant addition, breakfast and lunch on the river Now back to regular rebuild, after a pause for some pictures Blew up 2 of the 4 snowmobiles http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip088.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip081.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip078.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip074.jpg http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...hinTrip076.jpg |
Re: PO has me PO'd
Sounds like a great week. Looks pretty out there. Must not have been too cold, looks like the snow's WET!
As a former employee of Dick's Sporting goods, my best advice is to go to Cabella's, or Bass Pro Shops, or Sierra Trading Post, or, or, or... |

Cold? just a matter of opinion...if I could have felt my toes, it would've been my enjoyable. And yes the river water was wet Maybe not Dick's fault, bought a bottom of the line wader made in China, lessen learned Also my Northface shell failed, so I was wet 2 layers down Thanks for checkin' in Tynee |
