Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I shortened my exhaust, fixed a brake line (again) and contemplated notching my frame; how to, what type (C-notch, step notch) or Z-the frame. So many choices. I will post pics of the back of the truck soon- I cleaned the frame and it is BEAUTIFUL!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Made several attempts to fix a power steering leak near the pump. Everything is less than a year old, with no apparent source for the leak other than both hoses are wet. Attempted to tighten everything up, but there were no loose connections. Looks like the next step is to pull the pump and both hoses for closer analysis, which I was hoping to avoid.

Finished a few things over the last week or so (what can I say I work slow). Basically changed intake, distributor and cleaned up some of the wiring under the hood. Here's a before and after shot.

Overall the harness is done, still tying up a couple loose ends and installing the braid kit I got from painless to clean everything up. I thought the kit would have come complete but I had to purchase a couple things. Ground straps, front park lamp connectors, rear tail light connectors, battery cables. I had to reuse the original steering column connector but the kit does come with 2 late model steering wheel connectors if you have a late model column………..that’s a good thing cause I plan on changing mine later. There are no wires for the reverse lamps but there are wires on the harness for electric fan relay, engine temp, oil pressure, electric choke and under bed mounted gas tank. Everything fit perfect except the heater wire was about 6 inches short and one of the dash lights had a faulty crimp that I quickly fixed using my old harness. I had to replace the dome lamp, it was totally melted and the lens was stained with smoke, also the horn and I added a $6 light plate light for late model chevy trucks. While I was at it I added a coolant over flow tank. Overall I am happy with the job, it took a little longer than I thought but I had to order a couple things and instead of using the crimp type connectors painless provided I soldered and heat shrunk every spice.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Got a price for new windshield installed with new rubber- $225.00.

seems like a good price. i just had the front windshield and rubber replaced and the rear window rubber replaced for $316 from safelite. they did it in my garage. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I thought it is reasonable. The glass would cost me $128 plus the rubber has to be $40-50. It has the chrome trim and he is coming to the truck.

Went out to the local junk yard today and scored big time………battled some bees and snakes but I won! A pair of sweet unblemished cab sails, a headlight retainer ring, a small piece of trim I was missing for the windshield and an original radio.

I traded four 15x8 6 lug rallys with 62Bowtie for some 5 inch drop springs for the rear I have to install this weekend, would have done it last weekend except the bolts were saying no, been soaking them done every night with PB blaster.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
that looks like a really clean install. I did the same harness with wire loom, but need to clean it up how I ran mine.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
After a lengthy production delay, UPS showed up today with my passenger side spotlight bracket. Having everything ready, it was installed immediately:

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc24404.htm I was a native of California until 20 years ago, and I've had spotlights on my cars almost my entire life, as did my parents before that. The law has a few more specifics now, but the main issue has always been you cannot direct an illuminated spotlight beam on any moving vehicle. It's probably mainly a safety issue so as not to blind other drivers, but the code may have been introduced in the 1940's in response to the Caryl Chessman "Red Light Bandit" death row case, where he would cover the light with red cellophane and pull people over for criminal pursuits. |

I used the template that's in circulation on the forum, but it placed the bracket about 1/2" too far forward. I documented the install here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=401449 I was really lucky to obtain the passenger side bracket at all. I called Unity and they recently discovered they had 7 raw castings left over from decades ago and allowed me to order one. Once completed Quality was very unhappy the casting ever made it into production with 50 years of shelf wear on it. The bracket was completed with some blemishes, and I was allowed to buy it as-is with the warning "if you want one take this one, because Unity will never be producing any more" (I think somebody may have gotten in trouble for selling it in the first place). If it needed to be show quality any good chrome guy could make it look perfect, all it needs is a bit more copper and some delicate polishing, but I'm happy with it as it looks since it matches most of the rest of my truck. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Epoxy primed my grill filler panel after stripping all the laquer primer off it.
