Re: 1968
Today I installed the carrier bearing bracket.
http://i.imgur.com/ew9IO8Kl.jpg Then I installed the drive shaft. It looks like I will kave to do some sanding on the driveshaft. It has two rings on the tube from the vise. I even had a towel wraped around the tube. But still it came thru as you can see. http://i.imgur.com/XMIgyTHl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/GiA2Tyul.jpg I also installed the wind shield wiper motor with pump. http://i.imgur.com/J4UcGWgl.jpg tomorrow I hope to install the wiper arms and the cowl. made a appointment with the welding shop for the hood metal. I was going to get another hood. But metal is cheap and labor is free. |

Re: 1968
Didn't do anything on the truck today. It rained and just couldn't get myself movatived enough to get outside. But who knows maybe tomorrow. Going to pick up my Alt and top radiator hose tomorrow. I also need to find my speed-ometer cable and install it.

Re: 1968
Today I recieved some parts. They came from All America Billet. A set of metal chrome door locks and a set of metal chrome visor clips. They look sweet. And the best part is that they will never wear out for they are metal.
A top radiator hose and a Alt. Now I can get the engine all button up. The edelbrock intake and the Edelbrock valve covers and the distributor and wires. along with the Alt and hose. One step at a time. http://i.imgur.com/g6HqTW6l.jpg I will post pictures of the rest Monday. Their are some really nice guys on this board. LockDoc is sending me the clip for the wiper arms. Way to go lockDoc and thanks a lot. |

Re: 1968
Today I was rummaging through my parts and I found a fiberglass glove box. It looks like someone applied fiberglass to the paper box and pulled the paper off. so I cleaned it up and painted it gloss black. I didn't like the gloss paint so I went with flat and it looks a lot better.
http://i.imgur.com/qlWZ9dol.jpg http://i.imgur.com/CVn9qSCl.jpg It has a small crack in the top of the fiberglass but that is never seen. |
Re: 1968
That's pretty cool! I been doing ok, just working, and getting ready to move, so no truck time for a bit, but watching your progress helps me feel better!

Top radiator hose. http://i.imgur.com/3e09IZrl.jpg thermostate housing chrome. http://i.imgur.com/H46LMtkl.jpg thermostate 190. http://i.imgur.com/SVdSYtal.jpg edelbrock intake gasket. http://i.imgur.com/Le4zIc2l.jpg alternator I need the water outlet for the edelbrock intake. Does anyone know if it is the standard fitting for all the intakes? Tomorrow I hope to install the edelbrock intake on the engine. There's nothing to stop me from doing so except motovation. I also want to install the HEI distributor and wires. If I have enough time I will mount the alt and top radiator hose. |
Re: 1968
December 1st I fly up to Il. Going to drive a moving truck back. I hope it is nice weather for this southern does not like the snow.

Re: 1968
That water neck should fit fine, George. As long as the angle is good, you are fine.
I am moving about 40 mi away, closer to church and work, bigger house and bigger shop! |

Re: 1968
Stepside rear turn signal lens came in today. Now I have a new set to go back on the truck. I have a major set back today. I have to pull the transmission and replace the flex plate. I was told that the six cly and the 8 cly flex plate was the same. I should have investagated it before jumping into installing it. The starter does not even come close to ingaging the flex plate. But I have learned a lot since I started this build. One thing is don't assume nothing. Now I have about 6 hours worth of work to do. I should get my door panel trim this next week. The dash cluster also.

Re: 1968
Setbacks seem to be the name of the game with these trucks, i have had and continue to have my share.

Re: 1968
I know how you feel, George. You will get it sorted, though.

Re: 1968
Got somemore parts in today. Heater hose fitting and chrome plugs for the edelbrock intake.
http://i.imgur.com/qNCSpIpl.jpg New flex plate. There is a large difference between the two. The six cly is 12 7/8 inches and the v8 350 is 14 1 /4 inches from side to side http://i.imgur.com/0rmre5Vl.jpg I movied the transmission back about 8 to 10 inche. Pulled the old six cly fex plate off the rear of th engine. http://i.imgur.com/mDIbNMpl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/gwIGRHvl.jpg Monday I will insall the flex plate and re-install the transmissin. It sounds a lot harder than it really was. Piece of cake. Going to install with locktite on the bolts this time. I think I should have done this the first time. Here is the torque specks for the bolts. 60 Lbs on the engine side 6 bolts with star washers and locktite and 46 Lbs on the torque converter side three bolts with locktite. |
Re: 1968
A cool Sunday so I did not do anything on the truck.
|
Re: 1968
Well today I re-installed the transmission. The transmission never hit the floor. I left the transmission mount attached to the cross member. Removed the ten bolts attaching it to the frame. Jacked up the rear of the motor. Slid the transmission back with a come-a-long. use two pieces of 1/4 all thread and two pieces of short chain. Used them to slide it back in place. It was the easiest transmission I ever pull and replaced the fly wheel.
http://i.imgur.com/1oxG018l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/mg1sBgpl.jpg I also replaced the filter in the transmission. It was the cleanest pan I ever seen. just a little wipe and it was clean. Then replaced the gasket and r-installed the pan. http://i.imgur.com/maf5VMql.jpg http://i.imgur.com/En9nbnul.jpg I see a couple places that I missed with the chevy orange. I will repaint tomorrow. http://i.imgur.com/MFSKT4ll.jpg I recieved two door panel top trim today. All I have to do is polish them up and they will look new again. I will put them up untill I need them. Anothe fine day here in Florida. Got eveything done that I wanted too. |
Re: 1968
Today I re-painted the transmission pan. I painted a lot of other parts also. I will install the starter tomorrow and test it to see if the fly whell isok.
