I bet Wifey would dig an integrated double DIN touch-screen navi unit tho! Blend the new with the old? Already doing that with the digital gauges. I don't think it'd be a big deal to have a digital head unit in plain sight if you built it in right.

I cant wait to start playing with the dash , no telling what we can come up with !

Here is a little frame progress ! The 4 link stuff is just setting there, i am thinking that i am going to set it up for ride height to be 4 inches off the ground , any thoughts or concerns ? With me not being as familiar with the the squares as much will i have plenty of turning room in the front to drive it at that height ? or should i make ride height 5 or 6 inches ?

You'll have plenty of turning room in the front if you know somewhere to get some big inner fenders.
jk

that might be how it ends up ...this is for her so i am going to have to add all the fun stuff...cup holders, center console big enough to put her gigantic purses in and all that jazz ! LOL

Looking good Mike! How will your drive line look? I guess you will have a huge tunnel for the driveshaft?

67cheby 02-25-2013 12:48 PM

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

i really dont think i will have to tunnel it at all for the driveline...we will see though !

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

whell if you put in the big center consolle you dont realy have to worry about making the tunnel look nice you basicly can make it boxshaped wish woukld make creating and fitting it to the floor a lot eazier , it will all dissapear under the cupholders and the big space for the handbag

i seen someone use the bucket of a wheelbarrow to build am new resessed firewall around a engine that was set back in the frame , the reason he had for it is that it allready has all the compound curves in it and he just needed to cut and shut it where he needed to change the height and width of the whole thing and weld it in the hole , looked like a ton of work done to the sheetmetal but was less work than doing it from scratch

She's looking real good Mike! on the DVD/NAV/Radio touch screen, you could even incorporate a metal plate over the end of the flip out the screen so it looked like a radio delete plate or a ash tray giving the classic look when it is put away, but touch a button and it flips out, with all the modern equipment.

Man---that dash is gettin' some input! Aside from the variety of ideas, looks like you hit a winner on the choice. I'm really anxious to see what 'da man does with it!

Did Dakota Digital ever come out with analog gauges for the 60-66 dash?

Re: Slosh Tubz new company project "Square Peg" frame laying 1987 GMC Jimmy

there was a flip up screen mod on here a while back that used the astray to hide the screen , you could use an amp and hook it up to a good mobile phone or tablet that way you have the navigation mp3 and 4 player and a lot of other stuff if youre willing to download the apps for it you could do the same trick with the astray but only use it to hide the mountingbracket and cable

This is what I am doing with the touch screen that will control my air suspension, and boost/meth injection levels. Which is why I suggested it for him, its a simple concept that looks clean and it works!;)
