Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
great way to reuse a tool, hope they arent the cheap ones you get a xmas from a secret santa pool, hehe awesome idea
|
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
If u are talkin about the hinge those arent wrenches. It does look like it though. Its kinda hard to tell from the pic
|
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Dude!
I am totally impressed by the bed wood!! That Shhtuff is off-da-hook! Looks like you dipped it in clear! |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
holy double take batman, ur right i really thought they were wrenches still cool design and use of steel pieces
|
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Wow
Got some skill their. That's the one thing that seperates you from the rest. Keep them coming and dont forget to copy right that! |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Wow as usual outstanding man! Modges is right it does look like you dipped it in clear!!!

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
I don't know if I've said it or not, but I love this build!!!

and here is some updates.. i got the hinges done and mounted.. looks like its gonna work just like i wanted. hopefully by the end of the week i will have everything complete here are the deminsions for you murph. it would be very easy to make the same thing out of some flat stock or somtihg.. i just wanted mine to look all spiffy for some reason http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8125/1...6d9d5d4e_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7314/1...638c5d2f_b.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5465/1...1fe60553_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7396/1...74e3e0c8_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7428/1...ac715e3c_b.jpg you can see here how it slides forward away from the front of the bed http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3684/1...9eb94c63_b.jpg as you can see it will let the boards move to where ever it needs to without binding up.. i can lift it to just about vertical too!!!!! http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3740/1...07b106fd_b.jpg next step is to paint the hinges, link all the boards and strips together and find out how im gonna mount the gas shocks to hold it open like i did on the hood! |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
very very cool!!
|
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Sweet mod.
Definitely noted in the cool idea file. |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
X2...:metal:
Hinge design and implementation...:jdp: |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
really cool idea and great engineering. hope you'll be cruise-worthy a week from sat. want to see your truck and meet up with ya...
|
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
And that's why I keep coming back
|
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Thanks buddy !
You rock !! :metal: |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
thanx for all the comments guys!!!
clemdaddy i should have everything complete by then for sure!! yesterday i got the bed floor almost complete but ran out of time cause i wanted to go to the cruise night in sallisaw.. thats the first time my truck has been out of town and it ran perfect the hole time!!! it rides so smooth it about put me to sleep out on the highway looking forward to the drive over to your place!! thats a fun road anyway gonna try to get my retrosound stereo in today and maybe finish up the bed floor.. i really need to mow my yard though too.. its been getting neglected the past 3 weeks.. haha |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
I need start by thanking JDOISHER for directing me to this build...Been reading it for awhile and gotta say what fantastic work you have done...Pat yourself on the back this for your awesome skills bro... what a fantastic truck.... Thanks for sharing and keeping us motivated as well...

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
thanx for checking it out man!!! cool comments like that help me stay motivated to come up with more crazy ideas!!!

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Just so I am understanding the engineering physics here...
The boards sit flush against the vertical wall of the truck bed when in the down position, then slide away from that wall 1-3 inches as the board is raised, then travels that distance back to the corner of said wall when it reaches the uppermost point of travel? At that point your board is sitting at what; a 20* or 30* angle in the fully upright position? If you answer yes to all (or even most) of these questions then I am sooooOOOOoooooo making these hinges !! Sorry to steal yet another of your innovations dude....But you know....what if you, me and Bomp ever worked on a rig together??? Hmmmmmmmm |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
yes the boards sit flush with the rear of the bed. but you have to pull the boards toward the rear of the truck then lift up. the hinge doesnt create that movement on its own. Once the boards are slid back as far as they go you can see in the picture it pivots off of the bottom corner of the boards. the hinges just allow it to move without binding up. once in the up position the hinge doesnt hold the boards out away from the front of the bed on their own. the boards slide back down and rest against the front of the bed. i think once i get the gas shocks on there to hold the boards up it will also hold them in the forward position so it will never touch the front of the bed. i will let you know how that works out. I should have some updates on that tomorrow.
btw it will raise to almost vertical but would be really difficult to do by yourself. mine will be at about a 30-35 degree angle with the support shocks connected. that gives me plenty of room to work in there if i need to also i got my stereo installed and made some cool little brackets to mount some more of those leds (like the leds in the engine bay) I also had to trim some boards down just a little bit. once i tightened up all the skid strips it made it just a little bit wider. Now im just waiting on the varnish to dry. i plan on having the bed finally complete hopefully tomorrow Ya that sounds like a cool idea if we could team up!! we could come up with some wild stuff |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
That is fantastic, thanks again.
Cannot wait to make some of these up, and show you what I am going to do with them! |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
well i didnt get my bed floor quite done yet but its really close.. i wasted alot of time trying to figure out a way to make those lift support shocks to work but i never could get it to work right so i think i might just make a prop rod instead.. not sure yet.
anyway here are a few preview pics.. i will post some more detailed ones once everything is done. im about to be late for work..lol http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5548/1...144bd7d1_b.jpg i did get my leds mounted up to.. this is with all the lights on in my shop.. you can see they are pretty bright http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2879/1...4108d5a7_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7329/1...b8e4342b_b.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5472/1...e1d24b41_b.jpg |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Bada$$ man! Was thinking something similar myself but with a different twist....I like how that happens:lol:
I hope mine turns out as cool as that |
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Saturday can't get here soon enough... Overall your build is:jdp:
|
Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet
Great way to show off that fab work that would otherwise be hidden!
