Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Now you need to replace the hood insulation. Don't want to have a dirty cover over that pretty engine. :D
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I know!!! It looks even worse in the pictures!
On the list now.... |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
I'm just giving ya a hard time man. Truck is looking amazing. Major  for you man!
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
 thats awesome!! Thanks Bob... you guys are something else!:haha:
I'm glad Fred feels like a new man!! He was telling us he cant wait to sit a little closer to the ground like the toy box! ;) |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
He will never sit all the way down next to me! :D Well, I shouldn't say never. But the chances are slim! But The Toybox will never keep up with Fred. Well again...chances a slim.
|
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
LOL, yup, pretty slim chance he will sit that low! For one, I would reduce the depth of my oil pan by a couple of inches if he did!

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
They are all new fittings. It's an Earl's steel AN to inverted flare adapter, then a 90° AN fitting with SS braided line that ties in to the steel cooler lines.
I remember when I put the rad back in that the inside of the rad fitting looked a little pitted, so I might try some teflon tape around the adapter fitting. It's a very minor leak, just enough to wet the tank below the fitting. Hopefully the fitting in the rad isn't hosed. I'm not sure if those screw out or not. It does have a hex head around it. |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
OK, here is the final damage so far.....
Just the basic parts needed to do the swap including the 37° flare tool and both new gas tanks was about $1479. So total with engine/trans package (w/shipping) is $3679. When I add up ALL my receipts, which include things like the gas pedal and harness, paint, degreaser, solder, bulbs, bumper bolts (still haven't found them damn things!!), fuel hose and clamps, heater hoses, all the AN fittings and SS braided hose for the fuel system and trans cooler lines, gas tanks, complete fuel system, adapter plates and the gauge cluster, blah blah blah.... totals $1904, total swap price of $4104. I am $396 under budget!!! :metal: |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
:metal: just enough for a new set of tires!!! ;)
thats not bad when you really think of what you have now. an '06 drivetrain thats barely broken in that gets 20+ mpg!! |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
No doubt man!
Well, I'm glad the hard part is done, because I just lost my helper. My son just broke his arm at school! I'm on my way to EmergeCare. I just talked to him on the phone, he actually sounded a little excited about the fact it's broke, and he gets to be out of school! Wasn't crying and didn't sound at all like he just broke his arm. Weird child he is...... :D |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Oh dang! Good luck with that Bob. Let me know if you need my help with anything.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Killer post Bob !! Im not too far off then, I already have the Wiring, engine/trans and some fuel evaporative recovery parts.( Since Im dealing with shhmog pooop) I now need to FIND my throttle pedal ( it was here somewhere ) LOL !!
When I quit my last job I left behind my vortec engine covers, my ECM and Tranny Computer Plus my belts and one other A/C compressor...( I was to pisseed to even go back ) So I have to gather up all my fuel parts, adapter plates and whatever else I forgot ahahah Good luck with the boys arm, they heal like super glue at that age ( im only 25, I heal like gorilla snot, but not TOO bad ahahahaahh ) So off the line from a dead stop, will it burn em off ?? Just stabbing the gas ? I know the new trucks are SOFT until about 20mph then they wake up.. all the torque management I guess. Bob |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
X2 on the good luck Bob. Whenever i got hurt i always cried like a baby for my Daddy!! Then again i am a westerner... you guys must raise them tough out there!;)

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

I'm going to run the truck into the shop here after work and see what's up with that tranny cooler fitting. I'd like to get it fixed before I head back home tonight. I just switched tanks on the way back to the office. 252 miles, and about 1/8 tank left. Probably around 19-20 mpg or so. I have had my foot in it A LOT since Saturday, and about 120 miles round trip on the interstate for the board meet yesterday. Looking back at my notebook when I first got the truck and was tracking mileage, I was averaging 140 miles to a tank. Actually, about 3/4 of a tank, since I was filling it with 1/4 of a tank left because the truck would die on sudden stops since there was no "bowl" around the fuel pumps. :D |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
WOW you cant complain about more HP and better MPG !!!
I can get about 200 miles out of 16 gallons with the ole inline 6, driving with an egg on the skinny pedal !!! And thats with all the old men and women passing me  I need to sit down and make me a list of what exactly I need, and slowly one piece at time "check" them off. I have been saving my change in a metal money bank (have to cut it to get it open LOL) So if I slowly gather all my parts Before I open the bank, I should be GOOD to GO ahahahahaha Soon very soon, Im hoping to start on building a small shop in the next couple months. Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
That's the bomb. My little man is 12 and I hope to buy him a truck soon for us to work on together.
Here is an old pic of him sanding the inside of the drag truck. http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...racer/cade.jpg |
Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"
Dang Bob! He hardly looks phased. Is it a bad break? Well, now he has more time to soak up even more smarts. But I guess his SBC will be sitting for a little while. Good luck Big Guy!! :metal:
