I say run with it.. While I love the truck without, it really should throw some youngsters into a tizzy when you have smoke billowing out the back hatch!.. and all they see are the black marks in front of them..

Re: 68 S/C update.....

A friend of mine recently bought a 2014 GMC with your combo and says he hates it, the transmission that is. Says it is all time searching for gears. When you slow down instead of coasting it downshifts and increases engine speed and is really annoying. When he reported it to dealer, they said it is a common complaint and can't anything be down about it. Have you experienced similar problems?

Thanks,

I like it more than I thought I would. Every since I saw a pic of my grandpa's truck with a shell on it, I've been sorta looking for one.

looking good, this has been a long road for you. Looks like it starting in 2009. Is it all up and running?

Does the camper door come flying up from a hard launch?

Looks either way.

Thanks for all the comment on the camper. No grey areas as far as it's concerned, people either love it or hate it, I like it, so I'm rolling with it for right now, :sexy:.

Project for today is going to be replacing door glass seals and the vent window rubber...wish me luck.....:).

Here's a video I'm using to help guide me through the project:

Also, been working on this 67 for a friend of mine. 5.3/4L80 with a holley tunnel ram....

As most people take camper shells off. I also found one to fit my step side that I had. I picked it up for free to boot. I did have to clean it up and paint it tho. I am glad I had it because I went and got my console stereo and it started raining cats and dogs on the way back from getting it. They may make it look like an old mans truck but they are functional. And you can store tools or parts in the back if needed too. Then take it off when you get tired of it.

Got the passenger side door seals changed and the vent window rubber changed out. Man that was fun, NOT! If you are going to try this, I would highly recommend having an extra set of hands. Luckily my bride of 24.5 years was willing to help out, :D.

Yesterday I had some Magnaflows installed and my electric cutouts put back on. I really like the new sound. It's a little deeper than the 50 Series Flowmasters, but not as loud (if that makes sense, :)).

Very nice. Are you gonna treat us to a video of the Magnaflows and with the cutouts? You know when you get a few spare minutes. We need a little motivation.

I used 12256 - 5 x 8s. You can also get 11256 that are 4 x 9s. I think they both sound about the same. Just a little different dimension depending on your spatial needs.

I haven't got to drive it that much since I changed them (rainy weather). But what little I have, it seems like they are a little quieter (you can have a conversation in the cab now). When you jump on it, they have a little deeper tone to them. So, so far, so good, :D.

Does anyone know how long it takes to break them in? Will the tone change after say a 100-200 miles of driving?

track70 05-29-2014 02:41 PM

Re: 68 S/C update.....

Yea they will get a little bit louder after about a few hundred miles..the fiberglass packing breaks down a little and makes the muffler louder..Your still like the sound though! :metal:

Re: 68 S/C update.....

The ones I had on my old Dodge and the ones on my 02 didn't change much. To me it was indistinguishable between off the rack and 6 years later.

Re: 68 S/C update.....

I feel like mine may be a little louder than they were initially as well, but then again, maybe my foot is just a little heavier.

So far I am happy with the sound. They aren't as raspy as the the 50 series Flowmasters but have a deeper tone. On another note, with the help of boardmember DayJ1, I think we have figured out a Cruise Control setup for my truck. I have all the parts and will install in next week, :metal: I also had some extra gas pedal brackets made if anyone is wanting to convert their DBW pedal to the Corvette pedal.

Thanks. I'm not sure about the square body. Post a picture of the pedal mount area. Tranny seems to be working fine, but I'm still playing with the tune.

Hey Rod,

nice build so far! love the power plant and all the goodies! Now I'm just a little foggy about your oil pans. are you running a sts-v pan on the 6L80 and a Ctsv pan on the motor? Im building a 6.0 lq4 drop member 70 swb with a 6L80e as well, need the most clearance as possible obviously so I'm just trying to confirm.
or are you running a camaro pan on the 6.2? I know it was earlier in the thread its just so many pages to sift through! Nice DD also! those taillights look different to me, maybe just real new camaro?! Thanks Rod in advance. Derek

No big updates. Just fine tuning a few things. The new tank and filler tube are working great. I have filled it several times and other than having to be careful when it's almost full, I have had zero problems.

Are the filler/cap assy from Boyds, also???

Job well done!!!

Thanks Derek. If you are running the PB extreme dropmember, you will need to use the Camaro FBody oil pan (98-02), that's what's on my son's truck with the LS1 and PB stuff. Here's the oil pan on my gold 68 (factory front crossmember):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CTS-V-OIL-PA...93ab02&vxp=mtr

and the tranny pan:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Auto-Trans-O...ed8365&vxp=mtr

Make sure you get the matching tranny filter to go with it.

I made the filler tube from a piece of 2" exhaust pipe and the cap came from West Marine. It's a gas filler for a boat.

Re: 68 S/C update.....

Do you think a truck oil pan would have cleared if you didn't have the extreme DM?
I've got a mild for my truck and would rather not change the pan.

The truck pan will probably work for the mild drop member, but I'm not sure how far it will hang below the crossmember.

This weekend we drove the truck over to Biloxi for Scapin' the Coast. We cruised over there at 75-80 mph with the AC blowing cold and the motor taching around 21-2200 rpm, :metal:. I think the fuel milage was around 14 mpg. I think engine is still a little on the rich side, but not to bad considering what it is.... The only thing that would have made it a little better would have been cruise control (that gets installed this week...). I only saw a about 7-10 67-72s at the show but they were all pretty kewl. Made some new friends, Jason and his son from DeadEndGarage. They had a sweet 72 that was slammed to the ground. I also met up with a couple of boardmembers, Track71 and Big Country, who both brought there C10's. It was a cool show with a little bit of everything. I'm pumped for CTC '14!!!
